Ovi – One Touch Access, Tethering the Nokia N97 to your PC

My broadband just stopped working. After getting past the frustration, I’d normally attempt to fix it (myself or get a mate to do it). Instead, I decided to try using the N97 as a modem. (Note: this isn’t specific to the N97).

In Ovi Suite, there’s a service called “One Touch Access” and it really is. I connected the cable, set up O2 as the operator and I was back online using O2’s 3G (and their paltry attempt at unlimited internet).

Apparently you can connect over bluetooth, (and that would have been my preferred option as that means I won’t be relient on having the cable), but no luck on several attempts.

Successive connections over cable are much faster – just hook up the phone, launch OTA and it automatically connects you to the internet.

Now if only UK mobile tarrifs had decent internet allowances. (Fair usage policies just means a brilliant way to lie to customers. It’s like an all you can eat buffet, but you can only come up and fill 2 plates after which you’ll only be allowed to get crumbs)
