Video: Shake to wake! Shake to unlock the N900's screen!
Here’s a neat way of unlocking the N900 without using the unlock switch/opening the slide/using slide to unlock.
Using the N900′s accelerometer, just shake and you’ll unlock the screen.
The brilliance with it is that it will not work if the proximity sensor is covered, meaning that your N900 will not randomly unlock if in your pocket/bag and it’s receiving some shakes.
This is a highly practical and innovative solution to the touch-screen-unlock by gesture (which as you may know is just one of 20 things Apple is suing HTC for – of which the whole law suit also kinda targets all other Android handsets and basically all touch smartphones…anyway). I wouldn’t want to see it replacing unlock switch/slide to unlock – but an added versatility of ways to unlock.
Perhaps if Apple get their way and ban gesture based unlock, the future of unlocking might be drawing gestures in the air and the accelerometers will detect the motion? (With super sensitive sensors, that may be just subtle flicks instead of weird crazy air-strip guy waving)
It’s written on Python, the script is available here. The author writes that a deb-file is in the works as the script is very battery hungry.

How or where can I find this application to use it and install it in my N900?

I always use the slider to turn the screen off before I put my N900 in the pocket. Every time I take it out the screen is on and some random menus are open. I’ve spent hours searching online how to _lock_ the phone, but I haven’t found any solution.
I don’t know how it get’s unlocked in my pocket. I believe some calendar alarms turn the display on. Usually I only hear the beginning of the alarm tones cause “my pocket” chooses snooze or something before I have a chance to find the phone.
I am quite frustrated…
