Hi Mark.

What icon are you asking about, the .bin files?

I'm on XP so my icon for the .bin file looks like one of those files that aren't able to be opened by anything. (See screenshot)

What files have you downloaded, are they exactly the same ones in the tutorial?

Jay,

Thanks for getting back. It happens when I type or paste the command in the black box thingy. The instructions are really clear (even I can follow them!) It's just my computer trying to see me off. What should the icon look like?

No Probs,
Glad it worked for you Ian.

With flashing, there shouldn't really be too much worry of bricking your phone as you can just flash again to fix it.

This is also useful later on to "Hard Reset" your N900 if it ever gets bogged down with Extras Testing/Devel (geek level not ready for public) apps.

Not sure, but perhaps temporarily uninstall VLC? Sorry, I don't know why VLC is randomly opening that.

When you say, try the above process, which step? The moving or the whole black box typing thingy?

Hi, copied the files and then moved them to the flasher program, for some reason my computer has moved them as VLC media files? So when I try to follow the above process my VLC media player starts and not the flashing process.

Any ideas as to how to loose the VLC link?

Cheers Mark

I also had suitable USB device not found, but for about 30 seconds.

Even if something goes wrong with the flash, you can reflash again to fix it.
This is what I did when I accidentally turned off flasher midway.

Just make sure the .bin file names are typed correctly (specific to the ones you downloaded - the instructions only show global version)
