Nokia N8 vs. the smartphone elite: iPhone 4, HTC EVO 4G, Palm Pre Plus, and HTC HD2
Engadget has made a comparison of the iPhone 4 against what they call the smartphone elite – representatives of respective Mobile OS – HTC Evo 4G for Android, Nokia N8 for Symbian, Palm Pre Plus for WebOS and HTC HD2 for Windows Mobile.
Based on the hardware categories chosen, the N8 stacks up surprisingly well (and nice of engadget to recognize N8 amongst the “elite”).
Well if history is an indicator, this will be it for Apple’s iPhone over the next 12 months.
MeeGo phones and S^4 can still improve heavily hardware wise (given the non-flagship price of Nokia N8, it suggests we should expect more from the main Nokia flagship that would unequivocally put it head and shoulders above this list)

Engadget should add more fields like dolby hdmi usb on the go sensor size and free killer apps
I think N8 has bluetooth 3.0 which others don’t have.
Yes it has bluetooth 3.0. (official nokia india website- http://www.nokia.co.in/find-products/products/nokia-n8/specifications) and i also do think it has snapdragon 1 ghz processor along with the graphics chip. And not to mention that it might be the cheapest of them all.
true
)))
Hardware wise N8 still owns, and N8 is not even main product(i mean it’s not replacement for N97 or N900). Once we get flagship from Nokia there wont be anything to compare hardware wise. Only thing suprised in iPhone 4 was screen resolution. It is pretty huge. I bet it must look good. Current one already looks pretty good. Let’s see how nokia answers to it(screen res. wise). I know nokia will own in hardware. They always stack their products lol

At a non flagship price, I am not surprised Nokia chose a decent resolution on a 3.5 inch screen to ensure a 24 hr battery endurance. It was interesting that the above comparison did not include: USB on-the-go, Dolby, Xenon, FM transmitter, Bluetooth 3.0, TRUE 3G Pentaband, TRUE Multi-tasking, Camera Sensor SIZE. Can’t wait for the Nokia FLAGSHIP tablet in 4Q10 on Meego…with 3.8 to 4.3 inch screen…QWERTY, larger battery, 1G RAM, 32GB on-board, dual CPU powerhouse with dedicated GPU, Xenon & LED, surround sound speakers, integrated Qt, 2 Megapixel second camera, etc. Yes, wouldn’t the audience get a bit quiet after such an announcement?!?
No, cause knowing Nokia and it’s releases it’ll launch next year around May. By that time, competitors will already have something much better.

Nokia wins every round! BTW: the N900 is better than the N8
so it will rape the new iphone!
Just wanted to give my opinion. I don’t think n900 is better than n8. N8 is better in every aspect.
trueeeeeeeee
guys, it’s all about Software the end of day. uber hardware with no APPS is NO USE !!! there are tons of good apps and really cool games for iphone. i dont use the iphone, but friends do. they have shit loads of cool games and apps. gameloft makes the best mobile games, and for what phone.. guess right .. iphone. i had the n900, and it is like a pig penis in my pants. lots of power, SHITTY OVI Store and just no cool apps. i spend my 8hrs and more in the office working on damn pc’s and i don’t want to work on a phone. i want to have fun with it!!! nokia loses big time. OVI Store is a joke. they always show “angry birds” for 10000x and more. they don’t have anything else. get good games nokia, get a team which brings CONTENT to the device.I hate to tell u guys that apple wins big times .. and i don’t like it that way believe me. fucking nokia media guys talk like robots and have butt sex, guys get out of the bush and get us good appzy and state of the art games u bloody finnish inbreeders
i agree with you. believe it or not i tell the same things to my friends when they talk about cellphones. one of the main reason why iphone became so popular is because of its applications. if you compare nokia and iphone, nokia is always a better option. having a fancy operating system might excite someone for a short period, but for fun and time pass you need good apps. people buy iphones coz of the apps and not coz of its operating system or whatever. whatever iphone is introducing now, nokia has done that way back. i used video calling 3-4 years back. entertainment matters a lot, iphone provides it. almost each and every application you get in the app store, nokia hardly has anything. nokia will easily rule the market if they concentrate more on apps and less on some new device for a while.
u honestly believe that the iphone 4 is a good phone… wow your stoopidness has just reached a new level…
sorry buddy…
Guys, in my opinion Apple’s Iphone 4g is not that “magical and innovative” as Steve Jobs said previously… come on, is true that the symbian^3 OS of nokia has to get better in comparison to the iOS but let’s be realistic, Apple is trying to make people think that they’re innovating while most of the other mobiles had the features that its new toy presumes:
Nokia N8 and other phones have REAL multitasking, iPhone 4g has to demonstrate it.
With Nokia and many other companies you’re able to make video calls since 2005 without having the same phone and wi-fi connectivity as a must.
Nokia N8 has HDMI support and usb on the go, supports flash when surfing the internet, you get free Gps forever, Dolby surround system and bluetooth 3.0… while iPhone 4g, yeah right.
Apple records HD video at 30 fps but the human eye is just able to perceive 24 fps so it doesn’t matter if your phone has 24, 25, 26, 30, 32 you’ll always watch the same!
Even the price is better, so I think that Apple wont’t beat it. And for the lovers of Android: it is just an OS, what do you do with a software without a good hardware?
With the iPhone you’ll need iTunes to sync your files in a notebook or pc, with the other phones you don’t.
I think there’s no comparison, Nokia wins with a huge advantage.
I agree with John and Brian too.
If you compare any phone to nokia (Hardware wise)nokia wins every single time.
But if you compare iphone 2G with nokia N8 software wise, iphone would probably still beat N8. cause lake of apps, probably perfomance.N8 is not out yet so cant say for sure.
Nokia is the BEST in hardware, but they need to Step up their game in software big time. I think they step up in N8(S^3), but not that big jumb that they need to beat iPhone4 software wise.
As far as i’m concerned, symbian has more mature apps than any other os. Majority of the apps you find on the iphone are just dumb random shit designed to suit the stupidity of the average american. scary wall papers, find waldo… wtf? I use an n95 8gb and i’ still yet to think of an app that isn’t there.
And as for games, its not a contest. Symbian rocks.
I looked at the N900 with alot of admiring for a while, but then the N8 was introduced, it’s just crazy, having 12mp/hd recording/hdmi port/usb on the go/FLASH for browsing as it SHOULD BE !! and so on, iPhone is just popular because of its userfriendly interface, ok it’s cute, it looks good and is amusing to use but it lacks so many things, like a decent multitasking option, also fuck there arrogant iTunes thing and ok the AppStore is great but do you need games on you phone :/?
I use my phone to be able to stay in contact with my friends and to be able to take a picture when i c cool thingz… so Nokia N8 is a great win for me. Btw, Nokia n900 is cool also but it lacks the newer software version/hdmi/12mp etc. The only great things about it are fysical keypad and the maemo opensource…
NOKIA N8 FTW & it’s gonna be legendary cheap compared to iPhone ;D !
Now if an iPhone lover has anything to convince me to buy iPhone, fire it off
!
guys, READ THIS: just to give u an example how retarded NOKIA is, and i honestly wish they finally change things.. in january for the n900 there was angry bird in the ovi store. then the realised that people could download it without paying. angry birds etc. went out of the ovi store. and ONLY 5 month later it is finally fixed.. COMON.. 5 MONTHS i finally can buy angry birds in the ovi store. what IS WRONG with those finns ? a major mobile phone company can’t afford this kind of FAIL. seriously 5 MONTHS in the mobile industrie, and also the companies which programm those apps want to sell them.. Nokias ovi is crap and there are just no cool games available. they should stop having gay sex @ the toilets and start to WORK!
on nokia you don’t have to go and buy apps from the ovi store. Just go to any website u like and download the app. FREE!!!!! So app store is not a big deal
John, can i ask, do u realy buy a phone just to be able to play games on it?
Nokia N8 has 12 megapixels camera, hp video recording, lifetime free walk and car gps navigation, on device photo & video editing and u can play music for 50 hours, thats 2 days !!! without the battery going empty… and btw it’s also a PHONE, with nice texting options and u can also browse very very quikly and smooth, WITH FLASH !!
If u say Nokia is retarded then whats ur favo phone atm? and dont u say iPhone 4 !
Tell me, wich is it….
hey jordan, i have had the n900, i liked it, and lots of usefull apps, but to be honest i like to play games, i use mostly public transport, and i love to play a game which i can save and then go on later. no action games, more of monkey island style or rts round based. you see, if i spend money and got a large screen, i want to use it. i don’t really need such a large screen only for email and photos. and navi i mostly user voice navigation. i dont look at the display. so yeah nokia n8 is hopefully gonna be cool, it will be a hard decision betwenn iphon4 and n8. atm i’m useing nokia n85, which i enjoy, but even there, games suck and ngage never really works flawless and is slow as hell. and n85 was around the same time like iphone 2, so to be honest it sucked when one compares the apps available. you see i never play games at home or else, hardly have time. thats why i enjoy a few good games when in public transport. at the moment i’m more like 80% for the n8… and i defnitly will wait until release before i buy any phone. i always had nokia, but there been so many ppl disappointet in n97 for example.. it’s a shame (never had one, but lot’s of friend didn0t enjoy it ) greetz to u
hey i forgot, but why are they always so proud of their 3d open gl whatever chip if there are no games to play. advantage over iphone is, the games USE the hardware, but sorry nokia, i’m not interested in a 3d chip and lot’s of blabla if there are not apps useing the hardware after all.
N8 has AMOLED display, the picture quality and viewing angle will be amazing
well i had amoled on my n85 but it’s crap. can’t read jack shit in direct sunlight. even outside not in direct sunlight it unuseable… don’t look forward too much,, my n900 on the other side was great. could read anything in direct sunlight.. i hope it will be like that…!
now this loser says that he used all nokia phones but all were just piece of crape. just shut up. loooooooooooooser.

Hey Guys,
One sentence! iphone4 is not very good at making phone calls, it’s all style over substance ( people are like sheep aren’t they, so stupid!) you pay over the odds for iphone as well, and I can’t believe you can only make video calls to other iphones, and that can only be done over a wireless network ( hello what is wrong with this picture! I could make video calls over any network 5 years ago!!) Like I said, the iphone is like a very expensive games console for teenagers (lots of useless apps and nice games for teenagers, and I’m amazed at all the halfwits who have gone out and bought one..
Actually I support Brian ……he has an intelligent answer ….nice comparison………Iphone rely on its stability of its software……..but when it comes to new technology ………still iphone misses alot ……like Bluetooth,Transmitter,HDMI,…..I perfare Nokia ….even I love Iphone brand…
hey guys:
Actually I support Brian ……he has an intelligent answer ….nice comparison………Iphone rely on its stability of its software..it’s trying to show off wat they have come to…even they didn’t make a big deal ……but when it comes to new technology ………still iphone misses alot ……like Bluetooth,Transmitter,HDMI,…..I perfare Nokia ….even I love Iphone brand…
hello everyone,
I just would like to tell one thing, ppl buy iphone for the name not for the features . . . APPLE this is the secret behind iphone. .
well…. some ppl are right saying that the iphone store has alot more apps than nokia’s ovi store. But then again…… nokia isnt restricted to 3rd party apps, i can go onto google and the amount of apps i can find easily overwhelms the iphone store.
also keep in mind that, most of app found on iphone are either repetitive or simply useless, same goes to other stuff found on google.
I luv nokia and I know ill be buying the n8
Hello everyone, liked the discussion going on, I am right now Promoting the Nokia N8 in Pakistan, Im a brand ambassador for nokia. And i interact with many people with different viewpoints on phones everyday.
No Doubt Nokia has launched a very impressive phone – Nokia n8. And ive been personally using this phone for a month now, I have taken the phone to the max in regards of performance and durability, trying every single thing, to see if it crashes. And it didnt at all. What customers lack, is the time to sit back and read the user guide within the phone, which is for them. Symbian^3 yet again a very nice and friendly user interface, but still the user guide gives us some very useful tips, that if we apply or practice them on our phone, we will be able to get better results.
Iphone, in my view is just cultural hype, I hadnt used an iphone that much before, but i did know that there was some big mean machine out there and people were talking alot about it.
The other day, i happened to grab hold of my brothers iphone (Who has shifted to the nokia n8 now) and when i saw the phone i was suprised to see that i was nothing, other then homescreens, many many homescreens! I asked my brother- if i want to add my folder or folders what should i do? he said you cant do anything. So that was it – A Touchable homescreen viewer.
People have come up to me saying “IF you place your finger next to the screen of iphone, its sensor are so fast that it can sense the heat of your finger and perform a click on the phone” I checked that out too. Nothing happened!
I put up an application in the nokia n8, that would unlock the phone, the same way iphone does, slide unlock, (you can get that application from ovi store for free)
People used it, wasnt much of a difference.
Hardware of the nokia N8 is wow – The picture quality, the video and all. The phone is not heavy as was thought to be, different colors, very stylish, pocket friendly and responsive.
Its a very nice phone for those people who would like to keep a phone as a fashion accessory and/or replace their laptop or desktop pc with this smartphone.
Nokia N8 is a killer!
I hope you all get your Nokia N8′s and love using it.
About OVI – well ovi has many applications. But the case is that OVI show content that is compatible to your specific phone only, now with such a big range of phones, you can say that not every app is for everyone. On the other hand iphone is just one phone to deal with. Nokia is improving ovi now and then, And hopefully new and better apps will be coming soon.
Another great app in the making is “The nokia N8 plug and touch – Transform any screen into a touchscreen”
have a look and be proud and confident about your nokia N8.
May God Bless you all.
Nokia.
And as you might know, Nokia’s CEO has changed from Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo to Stephen Elop.
Stephen Elop has worked for Microsoft, he was the head of the Business Division, and responsible for the Microsoft Office line of products, he was also a member of the company’s senior leadership team. Before all of this, Stephen was the COO of Juniper Networks, the president of worldwide field operations at Adobe Systems, and the CEO of Macromedia until acquisition by Adobe.
So lets hope for some good change.
May God Bless you All
