Nokia N8 Sample Pics: With and without Xenon Flash

Tnkgrl shows us the Xenon flash of the N8 in action (pre-production firmware) against no flash. You can see that in low light, the subject gets more detail, and more accurate colours. Most LED flashes would give off a slight blue tinge and aren’t really useful as when you want to use flash to light up a scene, only real xenon will do.

Another advantage with xenon flash is you can snap away very fast motion (whereas you generally have to be super still with LED flash). This is vital when taking photos of PEOPLE in low light situations, e.g. at a party, club, pub or any time you’re indoors and it’s not well lit inside.

Here’s some previous posts of my N82 with Xenon flash vs non xenon flash phones

I really hope Nokia make people see the light and appreciate the versatility xenon flash brings to mobile photography. It’s the camera you always have with you. For the majority of camera phones, in low light situations they’ll snap away something that’s either black, or a smudge.

There’s also a photo (I think in auto as opposed to macro) of the HTC EVO 4G

Wow shows how much the xenon flash improves picture quality, and Steve Jobs has the guts to say that LED flash is amazing :-)

Xenon flash avoids camera or subject blurring of the image. LED-flash will maintain the blur. My N82 (preset to Macro-flash-monochrome, non-glossy paper) is my photocopier.

Ideally we want both dual-led (for movies) & xenon.
