Symbian is best for top end of smartphone, because you want the smartphone to work as you want and not work like the smartphone wants you to……….
A fully customizable OS is the best OS.
UI is another side of the same coin.

Symbian^4 will be the greatest touch-based OS for mid-end Smartphone.
cuz andriod SUCKS in the low-spec phone.

I voted “other”.
in the roadmap of Symbian foundation, Symbian^4 and Symbian^5 will be very very good OS. We can see the blog and developper section in symbian.org, the foundation work very hard to make Symbian the best mobile OS and make life easy for developpers with Symbian^4 and Symbian^5.

If the Symbian foundation continue to work as they describe in the roadmap, Symbian will equiped the hight end of Nokia, DoCoMo (and maybe Sony-Ericsson) devices.

I’ve had Android 2.1 for a day on the Galaxy S and I’m missing my 5800 already. Certainly didn’t expect that to happen. It lags horribly, even with hardware like this, and it had made me appreciate even more what Symbian can do with meagre resources. I probably should’ve had more patience with the N8, but ah well, in around 18 months when I upgrade, MeeGo and Symbian^4 should be pretty solid and Nokia will have a host of nice devices out I’m sure.

You KNOW me, and you KNOW my views of symbian as has been smattered all over engadget decrying the constant bickering of bloggers on symbian’s crap OS when there are few issues with the OS in the first place.
The title is more mocking of the current opinions of the blogosphere than my own views on the matter

Andre, you shouldnt be influenced so easily by people with a passing view of the OS. There is NO technical reason why Symbian is inferior, in fact, I would argue, it is superior. Its UI tech has been outdated, and has been made as good as it gets in S^3. In S^4, there is literally NOTHING that Android has over Symbian. I leave iOS out of this as it is Apple only.

I think the bigger picture is lost on most people, including experts. Why do you think phone makers skin android? To differentiate themselves. They are not sponsors of Android, they want to push boxes. The only player that has the resources to create its own ecosystem is Nokia. Once S^3 or S^4 are here, stable, usable, and Qt apps are trickling in, I project a shift from Android back to Symbian. Not completely of course, but a shift.

SE can use S^4, influence its direction, and stay away from Google, that wants to have the content on the device. Google is Apple by means of other manufacturers. Once manufacturers have a real choice, which they will have with S^3 and S^4, they will make that choice.

Even the arch enemy of Nokia, Eldar, has admitted that S^4 is really very good.

Its articles like this, by yourself, that propagate American myopicness and hysteria. Its a classic case of Not Invented Here, and Buy American.

Do not be presmistic, my friend. In the end this world will need no more than 3 major phone OS. I predict one of them is Meego. Cheers.

It feels like they are starting all over again with Meego I mean they have only just revealed UI specs it will take another year for anything fully functional OS that is comparable to iOS and Android while the competition are racking up customers and with Nokia who are slow it will take even longer and the fact is Nokia cant afford another year
