Video: Nokia N8 plays divx via OTG
Here’s a video of the N8 playing a divx file from the N900 connected via OTG (On The Go). The N8 shows an episode of Futurama, although the sound did look choppy(probably because the file is located on the N900) its still able to read the video. It depends on the settings the video was ripped but its only a small adjustment of the codec/player. Video playback is perfect, according to dominique who tried several files.
This only a prototype, so there are plenty of room for improvements. Thanks for the heads up dominique.

Choppy due to the transfer and read speed of the phone.
Yes, you’re right, this is probably because the video is located on the N900 instead of being on the N8′s memory. I hope they do improve it though because I’m sure some customers are gonna use the OTG feature to playback videos.
Choppy due to the transfer and read speed of the phone.
I see the orange light blinking on the N900, is the N8 charging it? :O
The N8 will prob try to LOL
video very ok but audio output us TERRIBLE so i don’t think because slow speed. just audio codec not supported well in N8…
the N8 does not charge the N900…
to try it a second time i copied the file to the N8 (over usb otg
)
the speed of playback improved but the sound was still choppy. remember: it is a beta software and not difficult to get the audio codec support fixed.
Playback should be fine then, as long as they can get it fixed by the time it goes retail.
Can you try an HD divx file and plug into HD TV and see what that’s like please? And even the same but also with Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound from a HD divx!?
i will try.
i do not have a N8 myself but i will check it out at nokia office and post a video of N8 as a media center
i will try to use it as a full media center with (all at the same time):
-bluetooth mouse & keyboard
-hdmi tv out
-usb otg: usb drive (western digital or simular), usb stick, memory card reader, n900, usb hub
-divx, xvid, mkv (perhaps with different resolutions, stereo, 5.1, subtitels…)
This should provide interesting results. Thank you for trying. =]
sorry folks the file the N8 is playing is xvid not divx. but as most of files are xvid its good anyway
ok so xvid not cupported(audio) by n8, divx ok
I thought xvid was MPEG-4 and that is supported by the N8.
