You mean it does the same thing as Opera? I thought they were all about being open and working well with others. Yeah, right.

I know this isn't the Ovi browser we are talking about, but just a reminder that Nokia has big enough R&D staff that there is pretty much everything you can think of done somewhere in the organication.

http://starlight-webkit.org/Starlight/ (Starlight browser, a small Nokia Research Center project)
http://www.starlight-webkit.org/download/

Question is whether this leads into anything in the desktop browers field. It could be that this project benefits more mobile browsers than desktop ones.

Remember that nowdays the direction where everything is going is that if it works on desktop it should work also on mobile, and wice versa.

Guys, remember that Nokia sells like 50 000 000 of those s40 phones / year in the developing countries where bandwith is scarce and expensive. Thus a new, fast, simple, data-saving browser is a great thing.

WIN!

I feel like pulling my hair out and screaming at the top of my lungs. If this is true, what an amazing waste of time. The whole point is that computing is moving to mobile. So why go in the opposite direction when you are already there?!!! Just flipping make the browser on the phone better for pete sake. Jeez, the case study on Nokia at future business schools is going to be an amazing exercise in what not to do. Flipping release the N8 already and stop wasting our time...what a mess.

hmm.. I'm not sure what they intend to do. they sure don't want to compete with firefox, ie, chrome , opera. Qt already has webkit integrated so making a standard browser it takes you 5 minutes. I think they wanted to promote their ovi services, but again I( and like me I think there are a lot) don't want to install on my computer hundreds of programs. Ovi services are used from mobile phones , not from desktop, so they should better create a phone browser.
However at this moment we didn't see anything, so making presumptions is useless cause we don't know nokia's logic

I agree. I would love a browser with Ovi completely integrated in, which can complement Ovi Suite (which would be used, more to sync your Ovi Browser with your phone Ovi data).
