Story of the Nokia N8's incredible camera (Superb Butterfly shot :o so much detail!!)
Since the 7650 I’ve been hooked on mobile phone photography. I remember at the time my Dad said, that’s just a gimmick. My mum said it wouldn’t catch on. From the 7610, to Nseries and the Carl Zeiss partnership, Nokia has been pushing imaging to not just being a camera phone but a phone equipped [...]
Video: MeeGo Advert at Computex: Come Build with Us
Here’s an ad for MeeGo shown at Computex. You can see in the video (or in the screenshots) the many types of devices MeeGo will go on, giving you an even wider audience than just phones; netbooks, TVs, in vehicle infotainment devices and tablets are just some of these such devices. AIM: Intel wants you [...]
Video: Lady Geek Episode 2: Win the Nokia E72 (+ Open Table Review)
Last week, Lady Geek premiered with a bumper Ovi Highlights edition. Now here’s episode 2. Just wait a bit as they will get around to covering an app for Symbian: Open Table. This is an app that will help you find restaurants, either nearby with GPS or at a specific destination. You can browse restaurants [...]
Gallery: Stunning 9MP 16:9 Shots by the Nokia N8 (FULL 4000X2248) Goodbye point and shoot cam.
In response to the Nokia N8 sample gallery where the photos were severely converted destroying the quality of the photos (I was just interested in the pretty pictures ^_^) here are some full 9MP images at 4000×2248 (16:9 widescreen), and stunning too, taken and uploaded to flickr by cliboub from SymbianFrance. Please note, this is [...]
Pics: Aava Mobile's Moorsetown MeeGo Phone (and Android)
We’ve seen this Finnish phone before running Moblin and a Qt Interface to demo a possible MeeGo UI (or at least a reference design). We saw it most recently demonstrating the new MeeGo handset UX on video. Chippy, aka Steve Paine of CarryPad has it for the next 48 hours! This is Aava Mobile (also [...]
Video tutorials: Nokia E73 Mode tutorials with T-Mobile, from Ovi Store Shopping to setting up exchange/personal email
T-Mobile’s given the Nokeeeya E73 Mode some excellent video tutorials to get even the most basic phone/Eseries/Nokia newbie up and running. They’re short and quick, but very informative. Our demonstrator here is the lovely Jen. HOW TO INSERT BATTERY/SIM/MEMORY CARD: [YOUTUBE=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5_g-oJ8qSE] CHANGING MODES (Eseries function and the namesake of the E73) [YOUTUBE=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw0KcvgGCoQ] MAKING A CALL/USING [...]
Video Advert: Nokia Messaging India Ad (E72)
This advert is supposed to be airing in India right now. (Indian readers, have you seen it yet?) It’s an advert for Nokia Messaging and Eseries and uses Nokia’s slogan, “connecting people” and the imagery of the Nokia hands. Business and personal life – for the up and coming, they don’t seem to go hand [...]
Gallery: Nokia N8 Sandwich of all 5 colours! (+Review and Video demo) Tower Bloxx of N8
I love phone piles! There’s currently none more beautiful than this Nokia N8 phone pile with all 5 Nokia N8 colours, orange, silver, blue, green and black. They remind me of those popular artsy subjects of coloured pencils or crayons that frequent flickr. This comes with Gizmovil’s bumper N8 first impressions. It’s in Spanish but [...]
Pics part 2: Beautiful shots from the Nokia N8 (Not full sized)
Andre has just posted up some N8 full sized samples. In this post, you’ll see some absolutely stunning photos by the N8 (found the the same folks at Mobile-Review) Note, they were uploaded to flickr by chrisdmyk and they’re NOT at full resolution. Instead, cropped and killed to 1024x 575 from the 16:9 9MP photos [...]
More N8 camera samples? (Full 12mp 4000×3000)
Over in the mobile-review forums I stumbled across a post by a user named quagmire (giggity! ) who posted a few links to photos on flickr that were shot with the Nokia N8 (supposedly). Although I’ll remain a skeptic ( ’til I have the N8 in my own hands!!) , the pictures that were linked [...]
Video: Nokia N900 and Maezer – Accelerometer Maze game for the Nokia N900
Maezer is an app created by Blaizzen (from talk.maemo.org) for the Nokia N900 that uses the accelerometer to move a ball across a 2d maze. I prefer this to the more glamorous accelerometer type maze games as it’s less about the skill of moving the phone at the appropriate time and angle (and such loosing [...]
Why do you use a Nokia ?
A lot of negative comments have been written about Nokia in last few well lets *scratches his head*…… the iPhone arrived. It seems like every person who as a computer and an Internet connection has a negative opinion on Nokia phones, especially those who have never touched one. If you read “certain” blogs exclusively you [...]
Nokia N8 sample videos?
The guys at http://www.thenokian8.info/nokia-n8-video-clarity.html seem to have gotten their hands on a few sample videos supposedly taken with the N8. Although I can’t guarantee that these videos were actually taken with the N8 we see that the device used shows pretty decent digital zoom (to a point) and I also didn’t notice any dropped frames [...]
NEW TODAY! TowerBloxx Delux 3D available for the Nokia N900 (Maemo 5, Demo)
NEW TODAY from Digital Chocolate, one of the best mobile game developers to date: TowerBloxx Delux 3D has appeared on the Ovi Store for the Nokia N900! (Symbian version available). I’d make a demo video and screenshot myself but N900 has gone for some rest and repair (for around 9 days). I’ll update when I [...]
Happy 10th Birthday @1000Heads – the folks behind the incredible @WOMWorldNokia
Happy 10th Birthday 1000heads! This month of July (2010), the folks of 1000 heads are celebrating their 10th Anniversary! Congratulations folks! Who are 1000heads? Nobody knows Word of Mouth better than them; 1000heads are the guys and girls behind (amongst many things) WOMWorld/Nokia. (Word of Mouth not world of Mobile :p) WOMWorld is the reason [...]
Gallery: Nokia N8 Disassembly and Assembly Instructions
The Nokia N8 isn’t even available yet, we’ve already seen the disassembly photos, why not get accustomed to HOW to disassemble and assembly one :p? It’s probably best NEVER to disassemble your own Nokia as it will void your warranty. Worse, you could break something. Having said that, the Nokia N8′s battery requires some minor [...]
Repairing your Nokia: Finding your Nokia Care Point
If you’ve ever had the misfortune of developing a fault with your Nokia phones, your options are either to go back to your retailer/network provider or find yourself a Nokia Care Point. The latter is one I’ve had no problems with so far (touch wood) with my network/retailer repairs having made me wait as much [...]
Video: HD hands on with N8 with Aspahlt 5 over TV-out.
cellularemagazineit has uploaded a demo video of the Nokia N8 which at the end shows Asphalt 5 over TV out. Otherwise, you’ve seen pretty much everything before. He says it’s compatible with DivX? I like the menu + screen unlock (like old style 2 button nokia press) to prevent N8 getting locked if/when switchlock malfunctions [...]
Video: Nokia N900 and Freoffice – adds editing capabilities for open document formats on Maemo 5
Here’s something coming soon for the N900 (uploaded by sureshchande): an alternative to Documents to Go (30 days trial for viewer, plus I think there’s a paid editor version somewhere) on Maemo 5. It’s useful just as an office viewer (if you don’t fancy editing). I often have to check over excel files, word, ppt, [...]
Video: MeeGo on Nokia N900 (Slide/Swipe for multilanguage keyboard)
A couple of new N900 MeeGo videos, the first by BestBoyZde, the second from InoHacker. From 2:42 we see the lock screen. This is quite different in that you move the lock button from its original location into the wallpaper. 3:40 – SMS, contacts are picked up, new on screen keyboard pops up. Now this [...]
Video: Nokia "N9" RM-626 Software Tour, Remotely wiped during recording
The Symbian Experts over at TechnoBuffalo have another video of the Symbian^3 powered (not S60 -_-) Nokia E7 (or N9, N8-02 whatever you want to call it. Skip the slideshow of puppies (yes) and head straight over to 00:43 “we’re looking at a very high res screen, Nokia’s nHD”. If he knew what nHD was, [...]
