Nokia N8 unboxing
The good folks at TheHandheldblog got a preview of the N8 in its exact retail packaging and did an unboxing for our pleasure. As you can see the box is TINY !!! which is really nice in my opinion and I really like that Nokia are also going for the their traditional blue colouring for their packaging. The contents of the box for different markets will be different like a stylus for the Asian market.
I am seriously considering buying an N8 now I have flip flopped the idea between then when it was announced and now and pretty much ruled it out a while ago but after using other platforms for extensive periods I don’t see a huge difference between them and Symbian now and I am thinking of selling my Nokia E72 to part fund it we will wait and see I guess……..
Very pretty box indeed
The green N8 is very attractive indeed
Some of the Accessories included with the mighty N8
MMMHHHHH……. very nice indeed
you can see more pictures at TheHandheldBlog.com

There’s TWO female USB host cables??!!
not sure but the folks did have multiple boxes
Hey check this out! Looks like a new Symbian^3 device from Nokia!
http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2010/08/upcoming_nokia_5250_pictured_clearly.html
ok nevermind, its prolly an S60 5th edition. But Its prolly a newer version of the 5230. new design is quite similar to Nokia X6 and SE Xperia X10
If you click on the link, it looks like it comes with a micro usb-to-usb A, micro usb-to-hdmi, and a usb cable.
Thanks for the link! There’ll be just one usb host cable per box. As you guessed correctly, the second one was from another box.

Why are you writing for a Nokia blog then?
> after using other platforms for extensive periods I don’t see a huge difference between them and Symbian
REALLY? I do. And I’ve been a software developer 27 years, so know a good system when I see it. Android is technically limited and pretty basic in it’s user experience. iPhone is little more than a Fisher-Price Toy (“My First Phone” for babies). iPhone has contributed some good user interface design features, and Android has contributed nothing but competition, but Symbian is MILES ahead.
You don’t need to be a Nokia fanboy, and it’s good you’re not, but you ruled out an N8?!
I wish more people would realize that.
Symbian is POWERFUL, the only OS with a real multitasking… and it’s got features and functions way above of what Android and iOS(lol) offer.
However, it’s still lacking in the UI department, I like the setup(system layout)… homescreens with widgets + if you don’t want that, there is a traditional Symbian “Menu” but small things need improvement(like for example parsing phone numbers and links in the “Notes” application), needs more smoothness and responsiveness.
don’t forget about maemo/meego for the real multitasking…
doesn’t webos feature real multitasking as well?
> iPhone is little more than a Fisher-Price Toy (“My First Phone” for babies).
That’s why the iPhone is doing so badly! You should write to Steve Jobs and set him straight. He’ll probably thank you.
Seriously. All you are showing here is your snobbery and trying desperately to prove that you are superior. The iPhone is winning because it brought mobile data and apps to the masses, something Nokia tried to do and failed. The features in which Symbian is “miles ahead” turned out not to matter.
Try not to be a people-hater.
You’re being completely over-sensitive probably because you own and love an iPhone. Where exactly am I “hating people”? The iPhone is a Fisher-Price toy. I’m stating a fact about it’s simplicity.
As I said “iPhone has contributed some good user interface design features”. Not only is the iPhone’s simplicity great for many people, but it has also influenced user interface design in many other phones. All good stuff.
> The iPhone is winning because it brought mobile data and apps to the masses, something Nokia tried to do and failed.
Fact: iPhone market share has fallen every quarter for the last 3 quarters.
Second fact: Nokia smartphone’s market share has risen every quarter for the last 3 quarters.
Who’s winning and who’s failing?
iPhone succeeded firstly because they have excellent marketing. Secondly because they created an easy to use software ecosystem that works. Nokia is very close behind in achieving the second and hopefully is improving the first.
Oh I agree with you iPhone and Android are only slightly “prettier” than Symbian I am saying that there is virtually no difference between Android and Symbian especially, because the number of people suggesting Nokia should switch to Android is ludicrous. I don’t want that. On the N8 issue its between it and the N9 with Meego I am still deciding can’t afford both
I’m thinking about buying the N8 now and holding on to it until the N9 is announced then selling the N8 if the N9 hardware is good.
i cant do anything without my mobile
nokia best……mobile</a
didnt nokia promise a screwdriver to change the battery? i dont really care because my father got every screwdriver wich exists but i heard from different sources that they will put a scredriver in the box as well.
This seems very surprising. It makes no sense. If they did that, why not make the cover easily removable and then save the cost of putting a screwdriver in?! Not to mention why make it that difficult and why state the battery is non removable.
No, I bet you an N8 that there will not be a screwdriver in the box.
The reason for not making the cover easily removable is to have a unibody for the phone instead of it being in parts which easily fall off.
Yeah, that sort of thing would be nice. Pretty much every time I drop my 5530 the battery cover comes off. It gets old, fast.
why nokia not skip s3 and jump straight to s4? N8 realse date is close to 4th quarter in many countries in asia, the s4 phone is expected to releaseat early next year?
I’d rather that an upgrade to S4 is provided at a later date, than wait again for a long time for S4 to become available and stable.
Yeh sure, it would make great sense for Nokia to reject Symbian^2 and 3 and be put further behind in the smartphone war. Assume S^4 is ready by Jan/Fed/Mar next year, after that the companies need to incorporate it into their phones and adjust it. They need to fix the bugs which is what was happening with the Nokia N8 which still isn’t 100% complete. S^3 was released middle of this year but the N8 still isn’t released showing that new S^4 devices wouldn’t be released early next year but instead towards middle of the year and Nokia may move it further down the track to the 3Q so it doesn’t damage potential S^3 sales, especially if S^3 phones aren’t upgradeable to S^4.
I thought about that myself but you have got yo keep the shareholders happy in the first part of the year Nokia has taken a beating form the Media and plus Symbian 4 isn’t finished yet don’t forget Nokia skipped Symbian 2 so thats good.
I cant stand these postings!
We’re constantly getting teased with the N8!
getting to see everything about the phone before we get it in our hands is going to slacken the initial experience in our hands we’ll be dulled since we’ve become so familiar!
sigh i want the phone to be released already
Trust me when I say that a great deal HASN’T been shown.
i’ll hold you to that Andre!
I have to say that having only really become a mobile gimp this year, I’ve found the evolution of the n8 very interesting. From looking terrible early on, to the latest video which has it looking pretty smart, it’s left me feeling a bit regretful that I won’t be buying it. But then again, if I did buy it, it’s almost a certainty that I’d be feeling the same regret about the N9 and MeeGo.
