Swype coming soon for Nokia N8

| August 23, 2010 | Comments (0)

I am sure you guys all now what Swype is. When you see it being used it looks unreal because it shouldn’t be possible or it looks like a trick by David Blaine, the news is encouraging though if it is true. Swype usually do deals with carriers  or manufacturers rather than through an app although they used to distribute it through an app. I could see a deal between Nokia and Swype though, to be honest the current on screen keyboard’s on Nokia’s aren’t pleasant to use :-(

In case you don’t know what it is

People having their minds being blown away by Swype :-D

EDIT : One of our kind commentors mentioned something that I forgot, Nokia and Samsung did invest in Swype a while back so it should be available for the Nokia N8 and possible Symbian 3 devices going forward although why has it taken this long?!?!

thanks to Dj :-)

thanks to Adnan for the heads up !!!

Should not be a surprise its coming to Nokia….matter of fact it should have launched on both Samsung and Nokia and not only Samsung. Since they both contribute to swype.

Wow, Nokia helped fund it and they are just now getting a Swype keyboard……

That will be a benefit for USA Carriers. Swype is marketed as a bonus even if users continue to use single letter type habits.

Nokia devices need as many +(pluses) and less -(negatives) since a lot of people buy devices by comparison. No more “We (insert OS) have Swype and you (Nokia OSes)don’t!)

swype kinda needs a capacitive screen, which is something nokia hasn’t pushed till now(yea i know about the x6 but its not a front line model)

i’ve been hoping for some time that Nokia brings us Swype on its meego handset. as already pointed out, its over 8 months ago that Nokia invested in Swype. so why is it android that’s benefiting from this investment at the moment? I’ve set up a vote for Swype on meego at the Swype forum. hope you can add your support. (no need to sign up to vote for ideas)

Great news. Swype is absolutely ace. It should be the default input method on all new symbian devices because Nokia’s keyboard is just painful to use.

  8. Hary says:

May be you don’t know, but the investment branch of Nokia venture partners did investment in Swype long time back. I have been surprised so far that Swype has not been on Nokia handsets so far. May be they were waiting for S^3!

  10. 1. Have you guys really tried/used Swype actually?

    2. It sucks!

    3. Hard to use Swype one handedly.

    4. Hard to use for those who dont write English.

    5. Swype is just a show-off. In practical day to day real life situation, it sucks big time.

    Peace!

My only complaint about the N8 …. where and when can i get this phone? The wait is taking too long. This phone will bring the bling back to Nokia.

  13. Tastatura virtuala Swype, in curand pe Nokia N8 si alte modele Symbian^3 (Video)…

Ce este Swype? Posibil tastatura virtuala a viitorului… Aceasta metoda originala de input via touchscreen si-a facut aparitia pentru prima oara pe Samsung Omnia 2 (Windows Mobile), ajungand rapid un hit si o varianta preferata de majoritatea posesori…

yep, tried it out on the galaxy s in the O2 store, even with that big screen i seem to get on ok with it one handed. i imagine with a bit of practice i could get quite fast. i’ve never liked pecking at touch screens to enter text but Swype seems more intuitive, give us the option i say.

  15. Nik Rolls says:

Swype has actually been available on Nokia devices for ages in the form of the SlideID keyboard on the Ovi Store.
