Speaking of Open projects, AMD joins the Linux Foundation’s MeeGo Project. Why not, I mean we’ve got ARM chipsets too for MeeGo, despite Intel (MeeGo founders with Nokia) being AMD’s fiercest competitor. As said in the conference, innovation comes from collaboration NOT from one single man. Chris Schlaeger, Director of AMD Operating System is currently speaking at the MeeGo project.

“We will put resources, invest time and money where we think we can put meaningful contributions. If you think GPU/CPU can’t make a difference, beware. I really look forward to working with you guys”

Apparently he’s been following MeeGo project before MeeGo existed as he had the Nokia N810 and enjoyed tweaking it – and now is really happy to see how far it has come.

“Great example of Industry collaborations at work…we look forward to more industry arch rivals” [MeeGo Conference chair?]

“MeeGo represents an exciting, open-source mobile operating system we expect to be adopted by mobile and embedded device makers over time,” said Ben Bar-Haim, corporate vice president, software development, AMD. “We are glad to provide engineering resources to joint industry efforts like MeeGo and expect that this operating system will help drive our embedded plans and create expanded market opportunities for our forthcoming Accelerated Processing Units.”
