It only gets slower (relative term) in 3D mode showing lots of landmarks. Correct me if I am wrong, but Google only does image tiling (and doesn't even offer TBT navigation here); Ovi maps are rendered on the fly from vector data (for example streetnames are always in a readable spot and "follow" you when you scroll). Of course a real well-coded OpenGL backend should still scroll this at 60fps, landmarks or no. Either ovi maps will evolve to this, or someone else is going to write it using the excellent Mobility API's (once they include vector data...) Actually it’s quite zippy, and much better than it used to be in the 5800.

Of course it has only 3 homescreen and Nokia uses a folder instead of a flat system that may make performance difference. However, I did see the batter drain effectively as the draggable homescreens are animated. I thought my 5800XM was slow, but it's just the code which still isn't up to google level in smoothness. What release will this be when it gets fully coded in Qt?
