How To: Restoring Ovi Store on Nokia N8 (lost after Hard Reset)

| December 10, 2010 | 84 Replies

Have you hard reset your Nokia N8? Did you happen to lose Ovi Store?

Here are instructions as well as a how to video on how to get it back.

Before you start, you’ll need:

1. Nokia Qt Package from wiki.forum.nokia (consist Nokia Qt 4.6 and Nokia Qt 4.7)
2. Nokia Qt SDK
3. USB Cable

“Leo The Lion” from LeoTech89 has produced the following step by step on how to get it done. I’m not sure if it works but the two comments so far in the video seem to indicate that it does.

  1. Download Nokia Qt Package from wiki.forum.nokia and extract the package. There will be Qt 4.7 for Symbian^3 and Qt 4.6 for Symbian^3
  2. Copy both of the files (Qt 4.7 for Symbian^3 and Qt 4.6 for Symbian^3)to your Mass storage Nokia N8 and paste it
  3. After that, download the Nokia Qt SDK from the link given and installed it to your PC. The installation will take time, so be patient.
  4. After installation is done, connect your Nokia N8 to your PC. (Make sure the phone is set to Nokia Ovi Suite first)
  5. Wait till your PC fully detect the phone
  6. Then go Start > Nokia Qt SDK > Symbian and choose Install QtMobility to Nokia N8 device *This is the most important part
  7. It will prompt Ovi Suite and will start installing the appropriate application to your phone. Wait till the installation is finished.
  8. Then go to Tools > Software Update and sellect all the update you think its appropriate.
  9. After done updating the phone. Unplug the cable from your phone
  10. Go to File Manager and Install qt.sis and qtwebkit.sis from Qt 4.6 for Symbian^3 folder
  11. Then install qt_4_7_0_opengl.SIS from Qt 4.7 for Symbian^3
  12. Open Ovi Sote application, wait till the download links appeared.
  13. Click download and start installing Ovi Store
  14. Finally, restart the phone then test whether the Ovi Store is restored back or no

I Hard reset my N8 ( the 3 finger method). I tried using the method described above. But it gave me error while installing QtMobility to Nokia N8 device. Also the software versions mentioned and the links have changed. As couldn’t find anything like “qt_4_7_0_opengl.SIS from Qt 4.7″. If anybody has the recently updated links and the correct working method please post it.
    Thanks in advance.

  2. macxell says:

I also hard reset my n8, and i don’t find qt4.7 and 4.6 please put new working link. Thank you

  3. BFStep says:

You’re right, Qt4.6 & 4.7 aren’t separately available anymore but they are included in the Nokia Qt SDK package (download the installer from the link below and then leave it to install the Qt SDK to you PC/laptop…it will take a while!)

    http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.nokia.com/id/e920da1a-5b18-42df-82c3-907413e525fb/Nokia_Qt_SDK.html

Once you’ve finished the install connect your phone to your PC/laptop (preferably using a cable) and follow my instructions above about installing Qt to your phone directly.

    Hope that helps!

Any hints as to where the two directories in steps #10 and #11 are located?

10 Go to File Manager and Install qt.sis and qtwebkit.sis from Qt 4.6 for Symbian^3 folder

    11. Then install qt_4_7_0_opengl.SIS from Qt 4.7 for Symbian^3

I cannot find these two folders on my Nokia N8.

Now instal nokia bubbles and reboot ur device. Then install qtdowngrade.sis in phone memory(this is so important) and reboot the device. Now finaly go to ovi store ,download ovi store app, instal and enjoy.

guess what.. last January I do a Hard Reset on my N8 and since then, I cannot install the Ovi Store anymore…. I tried searching blogs on how to fix it but non of them work.. This afternoon, i click the software update on my N8 and surprisingly there’s ovi store listed and I updated my phone accordingly hoping that it will fix the issue. After 2mins – it is SUCCESFUL – it was installed and when I click the icon for ovi store, it ask me to get the new version and I can t believe that after 6 months NOKIA release an update to fix this issue… THANKS ALOT Nokia. Hoping that the Symbian Anna update will be released here in the Philippines by August.

    hey guys , solved
buy reinstalling ovistore from ovistore site on pc.
    here is what i did
1st my problem was little different after doing *#7370# my ovistore used to connect , but if u choose an item to go to its page and download, it keeps loading with no page.
i read ur previous replies, but i got scarred; i dont know what is this qt file. so i said ill try to reinstall, so i searched for ovistore on ovistore site, then send to mobile, then opened link through browser. Luckily it showed a download button, which i pressed and it did the rest automatically installed.
try it , hope it works with u too

  21. Umer says:

Thank you so much. i got my ovi store back!!!
it works 100% but QT SDK takes much longer time on 1MB net.
    anyways thanx!

  22. Vicky says:

Hi, I would like to inform you all that i have resolved the issue as Navifirm is providing the firmware for Nokia N8 which has 2 files missing and if u flash ur handset by clicking on continue, then u will loose all the data and ovi store too. What i did was to locate that missing file on the internet and then copying it to the location of the firmware, then flashed my handset.

I got Ovi store pre installed in my Nokia N8.. It just took 10 min to flash using Phoenix.

If anyone wants then i can post the file here for the help…
    Thanks

  23. tonia says:

been through that process. I was up until the wee small hours trying it but without success.
It did allow me to load the OVI store which I was unable to do before but it won’t let me sign in, look at my account or download any apps ( I just get a grey page with a spinning icon over the word ‘Loading’ which it never does. I even tried leaving it overnight but it was still ‘loading’ in the morning).

Thanks again for spending the time though.
