The Gadget Show picks up MeeGo Nokia N9 at MWC rumours

| January 12, 2011 | 12 Replies

UK TV programme, “The Gadget Show” has picked up on the recent Nokia N9 at MWC rumours that began on Twitter. So have phone retailer, dialtosave.

This of course, doesn’t substantiate the rumours at all. But it is great that there’s excitement and anticipation for MeeGo.

Of additional interest is that if you actually check out the Gadget’s Show’s article, they label the 2007 Maemo Nokia N810 as “The Symbian Powered Nokia N8″. It’s not even an attempt of possible N9/MeeGo phone roots, it’s a blatant error in google image search (which is extremely bad for googling up Nokia devices, since it gives the wrong images multiple times.)

It’s awesome that the likes of the Gadget show are picking up news on MeeGo. Possibly no one in the public has heard about it and it’s the likes of The Gadget Show, and possibly BBC Click to pick it up and tell at least some of the TV watching UK public. The Intel branding helps a lot here – association – “Intel Inside is good – MeeGo is part Intel – MeeGo phone is good!”.

The specs, although to be a standard in 2011, are much praised, “beefy processor” – and the reputation of the N8 camera is holding too. Now will we see it in the Flagship as a possible all in one for Nokia fans to be proud of? Will we actually see MeeGo at MWC? Will it be available as soon as April? Or is this a Nokia World 2011, Q4 release affair? Come on Nokia! I’m after your tablets too :p

The discussion over at the N9-MWC post opens up more questions than anything; a very interesting read if you skim through it.

Technically N900 was the first Nokia to run MeeGo, but we understand, the first consumer product possibly to run MeeGo out of the box. What's with the Symbian Swansong stuff? That with old rumours of N8 being the last Symbian on Nseries line?

Cheers for the heads up, David!

Unforgivable! They know exactly what they are doing!

N8 Symbian swansong!? Symbian’s only the biggest mobile OS on the planet by miles and growing at 50%/year. Swansong indeed…

Yet again, read the lines correctly. I’m no native english speaker but I can make out from the text that they mean the statement made by Nokia that further N-series devices will be MeeGo only.

Don’t start ranting immediately when there is a sentence that is somewhat negatively slanted towards Symbian.

      • Don says:

To be very specific, the statement was about Symbian 3, for Symbian 4 AVJ said it is still possible to appear on an N-series device.

And as S4 (as it was planned) is pretty much a very efficient Qt host platform, I would be fine with that.

        (Still love MeeGo of course:)

        • Rant says:

True, but that news hasn’nt really been picked up. More well know was the statement regarding N8 being the last with Symbian. They are pretty clearly referring to that.

When I 1st seen it I was shocked… to many tv / news places are using just the internet as a source for information. Not just for tech but for other topics too.
This all makes MyNokiaBlog so good! its much better then TV!
