Socially App new beta improves performance and refreshes UI
Socially, a free social networking app for symbian devices, one of the firsts to bring contacts integration, has now released a beta version (3.0) with a refreshed UI,speed improvements and few functionality tweaks.
Changelog and features :
What’s new in this version?(a) a completely new and rewritten engine to deliver faster performance
(b) removing the many UE quirks that have been confusing and frustrating our users
(c) building optimized user experience separately for v3 and v5 handsets
(d) improved Social Notifications – 5 mins refresh & customization by social networkNo new social features have been added in this version. Also, only Facebook & Twitter are active in this beta release.
Having used it extensively for my earlier s60 v3 device, it was pretty decent for managing all my social networks at one place, but when i tried to use it on my N8, it was bit slow and jittery, so i didn’t use it intensively since facebook/twitter contacts integration was native in Symbian^3(and also other reasons, mainly being performance). Now i downloaded this beta for my N8 and to be honest, i am now pretty happy with it. Lets take a look at its new UI, mainly the home page which adds a new title bar :
The extra options(down arrow, when in a client like twitter or facebook) on the title bar reveals a menu, which looks more like Android’s official twitter client’s home page.
Coming to other screens, i have uploaded them to a fairly self explanatory image gallery below, feel free to have a look. Performance, if you ask me, its a lot better than before and certainly better than the crappy Nokia social client, but definitely not as smooth as the Ovi store 2.0 or even the foursquare app( both WRT by the way ). Overall, nice touches to the UI and performance slightly better , but remember, its still in beta and is bound to improve definitely.
Now onto the image gallery.

is it a java app? If it is then forget it. I have java apps
Its a sisx files so i think that means its symbian. Just tried it and its miles ahead of the previously version. Its not perfect but its a great fb client
Might have to give this a go for the facebook bit.
Yes i guess it is a Java app indeed, cos its there for Android too, which runs java apps on the JVM
I take that back, its a decent fb client
Can’t see a person’s profile, no tagged photo, bad scrolling performance, can’t click on notification link
But still,
It’s among the best FB client for Symbian. The official FB client for Symbian is performance wise but without notification and tagged photo it’s bullshit. I don’t like Snaptu, java app’s performance are bad in my C6.
Still stick to m.facebook.com with Opera Mini s60.
As u can see the bar is pretty low. But what can i say; the option r limited
Quando sairá o msn dígino para nokia N8 ?
Pode ser pelo menos igual ao do n95.
Já testei muitos e nenhum deu certo .
Muito obrigado.
use fring, além de msn tem video chat q funciona, diferentemente do skype
This new app is decently neat but improvements are still needed. For example, I can’t reply my facebook messages nor can I respond to my notifications. This app is somewhat slow for my Nokia 5730 XpressMusic and when I get rather frustrated, I just switch to Snaptu for a moment. The reason I initially downloaded Socially was because it had Foursquare and I can’t wait for the stable version to be released.
Hi
I have a problem with the notifications
It doesnt let me change the option from Never to something else, so I am getting no desktop notifications
What to do ?
I have the same problem, probably a bug in the Beta version… Thanks for notifying this.. Hope they take a look and remove that bug…
Anyone else noticing that it is quite demanding on the battery?
Yeah partly because developers are not thinking about drain on the battery from using white backgrounds.
Give us white on black dudes!
