Video: Nokia Behind the E7: Design

| February 3, 2011 | 27 Replies

How many Nokia's can you name/recognize?

Rhiannon from WOMWorld and JFH shares with us this behind the scenes video about the Nokia E7, starring none other than Nokia’s Industrial designer, Shunjiro Eguchi.

He compares the E7 design to a fruit – something that’s actually extremely complex but made to look very simple.

In the video you can see the E7 being made in the factory. Eguchi notes that the E7 had 10 different keyboards prior to achieving what he says is the best keyboard Nokia’s made to date. And I wholly agree with him. A minute with the E7 and I was already flying away. These are damn good keys – perfect tactile feedback, just the right spacing and organization.

Nokia says that the keyboard on the Nokia E7 is the best they’ve ever made.

the pro-type i held ( and this is going back before Christmas) .

easily felt like the best keyboard on any phone. just put that on the N9 and i will be a happy man.

I can see fanboys jumping up & down after this video..yet it’s the same marketing videos Nokia makes for every device, N97?? same ugly & buggy software does not compensate for no matter how great the hardware is!

    • N8Fanboy says:

      Puhleez!

The N8, C6-01 and C7 have been out for months essentially running the same internals as the E7. They have all been performing excellently.

      Move along troll.

      • Chrysgvx says:

I respect your fanboyism and I can see you jumped from your seat :)
if you can’t find shortcomings or bugs in ^3 than you don’t know-how to use smartphone! Well in that case you might not even know how to google, if you do than please find out how much the Nokia lovers and hatres want new updates:)

Don’t bite trolls. It makes them reproduce.

        • Chrysgvx says:

          welcome nokia police!
          i don’t blame you, i know how ^3 browser ;)

ur input may not be responsive but remember your nokia device is running a pre-production software :)

          • joha says:

Gee, why would I need to look at that?
All I know is that my n8 performs well, it doesn’t matter what the Internet thinks.
If you don’t have a s3 device and first hand experience, what’s your point?
Do you get satisfaction from being a smartphone flamewar parrot?
Now why don’t you go and troll somewhere else?

          • Chrysgvx says:

            @joha
actually u r right, u don’t want to open the link, its hard to see how badly your browser performs ;)

fact is i have tried and wasted my money on your so called #1 smartphone manufacturer! just to add in all their business phones the main function that is the MFE client is a piece of crap. ****ing every time mfe connects to exchange server untrusted certificate error pop-up, wth?on the contrary every other platform works flawlessly webos, ios, blackberry etc.

yes i even hated when s.jobs said how magical this facetime is…even though nokia’s always had front facing cameras!! but did Nokia ever care to implement the use of front camera by providing some great software? heck n900 has still disabled front camera :)

          • Average Joe says:

Instead, if you have an Iphone 4, click this link:

            http://www.youtube.com

to discover that your phone has no Flash and can’t watch videos on the internet unless you use custom “Apps”.
No wonder the “app store” has so many downloads, you need an app to do even the most basic things.

  3. Chrysgvx says:

Can’t stop laughing how the guy calls “success of e7 lies in…” yet the device isn’t even released to major markets?

    • Georg says:

      My thoughts exactly.
The E7 does look like a very nice phone but it should have come out a year ago. I’m curious to see how many people will buy it now for 600€. Many loyal customers of the high end Nokia phones will not take another chance after the N97 debacle.

      • alex68 says:

You just sound like some old people, who have long memory in some useless things and like to complain again and again…

E7 was delayed so much because Nokia just wanted to make sure N97 disaster will never happen again with E7. Of course, they could have tried to delivery quality product with minimal delays.
I can tell you Symbian 3 can not be compared to S60v5 in terms of performance and quality. N97 was a history for Nokia already!

      • IMarius says:

come out a year ago ? why there is still not a better business phone on the market right now then the E7 when it comes out

  4. N8Fanboy says:

The biggest thing I got out of the video was the great environment in the factories that produce the E7.

While every other company raves about how much money they are making by taking all their production to low wage sweatshops in Asia, Nokia sticks to their guns and produce high-end phones in Europe where they have to pay higher wages.

Major respect for that Nokia! People before profit!

    • greg says:

i get my n8 in taiwan that’s made in china…but i heard that it’s nokia’s own factory! and i respect them for this, too!

hopefully they won’t sell these factories due to the lowered profit!

      • N8Fanboy says:

They make their phones in factories closest to where they are sold usually. This reduces the need to ship them over long distances and it is much better for the environment.

    • Georg says:

LOL- so because the factory looks clean you think it’s much better than Foxcon? Do you think they produce in a shed?
And Nokia are no saints, many years ago they closed a factory in Germany and moved to Rumania.

      • Anonymous says:

Lol, you really want to compare Foxconn to Nokia production plants? How many suicides were there in Foxconn last year again? 17?

      • Average Joe says:

Romania is part of the European Union, thus its workers enjoy all the basic rights protected by european laws. Of course they have lower wages than Germany, that’s because Romania is currently a poorer country: investments such as Nokia’s will help their economy improve.

Workers in China can’t even have independent trade unions – that’s the most basic of the workers’ rights.

  5. Sh0cK says:

Look at 17th second. Lol. iPad right there :D :D

  6. jaydee_9804 says:

Look closely at the video.. There’s a competition going on to win the E7..
    Hint: Success

  7. orcoon says:

im a nokia fanboooyyy! even my n8 is allways reset itdelf and had to go to service 3 times already!!

damn you i-phoner’S (idiot-phoners). can you download torrents and watch them on a led TV!

    suckers!

  8. orcoon says:

Bu sure that; any nokia user doesnt write on an i-phone forum!!! what is your aim? i ask you android and an ios users…i think you allready get bored with your phones and now you are afraiding the coming of symbian 3 and mee go eh??? lol! keep coming to the nokia forums and keep crying!! :D
