Nokia’s N-Gage was a prophecy to the mobile world that gaming was turning mobile. Years from now, we’ll be all playing console level gaming on our phones, and mobile phone games will be so popular we’ll see it on mainstream media and TV and it will be a multi-billion dollar industry. Unfortunately, like many of [...]

Visualising a quarter of a billion Symbian users – more than Android and iOS smartphones combined.

Horace Dediu has just written an article titled: Platform sunk (cost): What is the value of a quarter billion Symbian users? at asymco.com Symbian has taken a lot of flack since the coming of iPhone and the rampant growth of Android. Often touted as dead, dying, in trouble, you’d think no one bought Symbian phones [...]

Remember that visualisation the other day of “the world as seen by Nokia” depicting all the Nokia users by map? Here’s another in video form. It’s kinda like a video infographic, helping visualise numbers by comparing them with other “better” known quantities. I don’t know how old the video is – it seems some facts [...]

Duncan tipped us the other day that Vlingo is available at the Ovi Store. Is this the full version? It’s called Vlingo “Plus”? Anyway, I’ve missed this app ever since moving from the N97. It looks a little different to the Vlingo we saw demoed on the E7, receiving some nice UI tweaks http://store.ovi.com/content/101269 All [...]

What a frightening sight for Nokia N8 users. It’s uploaded from December by gadgetstress.com though newly published at GSM Arena. Cheers for the heads up Alexander) I’m not really sure about stress tests. Some show that a phone screen resists scratching when it gets scratched in my pocket. Conversely, some tests show a phone is [...]

Swype updated for Symbian^3. Get it from Nokia Beta Labs

Not sure how recent this is but fahoum and Nils has notified us of a SWYPE update for Symbian^3. I think Swype is awesome but NOT for two handed landscape, and is even worse one handed-landscape. I can type much faster with the standard landscape keyboard (turn prediction/autocorrect on, it’s actually quite good). Swype – [...]

Camb078 has a great game demoed for us on his Nokia N8 called “Backbreaker Football” that you can get on the Ovi Store. http://store.ovi.com/content/81320 Considering it’s only 10MB, the game looks pretty good. What do you have to do? Backbreaker is an intense, arcade football experience. Score touchdowns by sprinting, juking and spinning past waves [...]

If you were a developer writing apps for Nokia’s Qt program over the last couple of days, you’d be remiss if you didn’t actually take a gander at the opportunity Nokia is providing to their obviously jilted devs. Nokia sent to following letter out to members of their Forum Nokia launchpad program with a message [...]

I was rushing to get back home and noticed this in the Arndale in Manchester. You might have seen it before. I think it’s really cool – really blunt, boastful, to the point. This is what I want to see from Nokia. Straight, to the point, being clear about your strengths. No quibble about it. [...]
