Rumours: Nokia Windows Phones coming 2011 – exclusive Nokia only features coming 2012
According to smarthouse.com.au:
- Nokia Windows Phone are coming 2011
- Nokia Windows Phones with exclusive features are coming 2012
…an expanded version of the OS is set to be shown on new Nokia models which will be revealed in February 2012 at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona.
The OS will include “several new software upgrades, exclusive functions for Nokia phones and software that will not be available for other manufacturers who licence the OS” the European Nokia sources said.
OK, I don’t know where they got this information from.
What exclusive features are you expecting in Nokia’s Windows Phone? Camera Capabilities? Some of Symbian’s core abilities? Should Nokia’s first Windows Phone be awesome without compromise or do they just need a Windows Phone device out now? I’ve always wanted Nokia to come out with a bang with MeeGo phone, saying it had to be phenomenal otherwise it’s a fail. In the process of perfection, delays set in and now MeeGo is nothing but an experiment.

Well, Nokia and Microsoft’s partnership did come out with a (big) bang!
I’m eagerly waiting for a W.Phone Nokia device. Although I can’t say I was overjoyed to hear about the two working together, I truly believe their devices will be a blast.
Wow! Decision, decisions – to purchase a Nokia WP7 in 2011, or wait until 2012 for the Nokia exclusivity features? Hmmm. Anyway, if this rumor is true, this is great as I do not feel that HTC, LG, Samsung, or any other OEM should have access to Nokia services or technology. Nokia get’s to differentiate using their services/technology, the OEM’s can keep their ‘Hubs’ as their differentiator.
It’s a mixed bag for me.
I wanted, like you Nokia’s MeeGo to come with a bang with amazing UI and the openness that Maemo came with, hidden from normal users, but still there and open for anybody to use without need of hacking.
Problem is that while i knew that’s what i wanted i’m not sure if people would have really picked that in huge wave and it capturing serious slice of the smartphone market.
WP in a other hand got great UI and is already the smoothest of the major OS’s. For me the problem is the nature of the closed OS and for what i have seen the lack of customization. Still a OS i at least could see coming a big player some day.
As for the topic it’s really hard to say what’s the customization would be, if this news even is true. I would hope for widget based homes screen(or would that be a bit too big of a leap from norm WP?) while keeping things like Zune player exactly as they are as those imo are the high lights of WP7.
well then should I wait till 2012 or could I get my Nokia N8?
dont just don’t, youll never use the camera
instead of waiting for the new ui get a good andoid phone(or ios)
more apps, qt is good but nokia wants to span out symbian so less developers are interested
if ALL you want is good hardware, best ui, best customization then wait for a meego phone(nokia or intel)
but beware and think very carefully about apps, i dont prefer my n8 its bad harware always getting stuck, freezes, memory full notifications, not many apps and games(there is some)
in all honest if you want to wait then wait for meego(developer platform, very experianced modders etc use them so more chance of getting better stuff than symbian, and alien dalvik(an app that makes all apps and games in android run in meego perfectly)
Wow, bad troll is bad. I have a N8 and it doesn’t “get stuck, freeze, memory full”. Also, it has enough of the key applications that I need. Have you checked Ovi Store? There are more and more apps, many of them free. Also, N8 has the best camera found in any phone, and the hardware most definitely does not “suck”.
mine freezes with JUST opera mobile(3-4tabs) and musicplayer.
the harware doesnt suck? 680mhz? poor ram
i didnt say there isnt any apps i said they’re ****
there are very few good games and apps compared to ios and android.
i didnt say the camera is bad its excellent best so far in the world but i rarely see people taking that much photos and even if you do do you really need 12MP? the flash is good tho
oh btw mine always freezes and gets stuck and the loading time is long, very long. it takes about 5 seconds for my games folder to load(30-40 games ut not the quality i hoped from a flagship and compared to other phones)
i dont vey much like my n8, and im a typical user of web browsing, games apps, music, etc
forgot to say music player is great, but go for x7 cos n8′s speaker isnt that loud t be heard outside the house, or in a small group of people talking
This makes me wonder, what exclusive features they mean and will they be available for the possible, “regular” 2011 Nokia WP devices via software updates? I think they should come clear with this, if the source’s information is valid…
I dont think it’s a good thing to well wp7 without basic features like sdcard, mass storage etc. Nokia have to impress beacause if it’s not the case people will think it’s a terrible drawback to use wp7. For me I”ll buy Galaxy SII
I believe existing WP7 already supports SD card. Only thing is that it will ‘merge’ the card with its onboard memory, so taking out/switching card is a no-no. This is probably a good thing for ‘normal’ users who don’t want to be confused by the different memory, but BAD for more tech-saavy users.
WP7 by itself is a fairly good OS with lots of apps (10k apps in a very short time). If Nokia can put GREAT hardware on the first WP7 like better camera, CPU, memory, etc, I would buy it.

check this out nokia x7 is comming soon
it also says it has auto focus maybe e6 will also have
hurraaaay
i think nokia can download the hardware spec for theur next wp7 phone for steep price to earn profit!
I guess that depends what constitutes unique features? A 4″ CBD gorilla glass device with a successor to the N8 Carl Zeiss camera and a processor that’s faster than a gigahertz wrapped in some nice high quality aluminum could be competitive, depending on price of course. And one could hope that Mango would officially support expansion vi micro sd. Problem is, I think that’s about the most they could mamage for this year (give or take), but iPhone 5 will come out in the early summer and who know what else will happen on the Android side.
But by all means let them send it out, maybe they need to dip their toes a little before sending out a really unique wp device, and wouldn’t it be interesting if we could install Meego (or even Android) on it as well?
Special apps only for Nokia? I’m hoping Sports tracker at least, and/or maybe some standard stuffs like file transfer, VOIP, swype?
and maybe Bubble lock:)
AT&T to buy T-Mobile is the big news in the US and so I have a Bigger question now – will Nokia do windows phones (or any phones) with CDMA version (there are already CDMA Windows Phones, but i’m not aware of Noia ever having a CDMA smartphone). Deutche Telecom is selling T-Mobile USA to AT&T. As they were the only GSM providers in the nation this means only AT&T will have GSM phones. Verizon and Spint and as far as i know, all the small carriers use CDMA instead of GSM. My wife hates AT&T and refuses to give them a penny and I love my wife. I also like unlocked phones and nokia phones, i have a blog about Qt development and eventually windows phone development – i’m sure you get why this is all a problem. All this will take a about a year, and the FCC may say no to the deal, but i now have to hope that one day nokia will start talking to Sprint about some devices, that or VodaFone, 3 or some other multinational comes in with some cash to run a competing network in the US we can go to instead.
More on topic, i am looking forward to seeing what comes out. Not having any new devices at next years MWC would be a major fail.
2012… This is way to late…
At that time Android will have 80 % of Smart Phone market and NOKIA 0 % of this
You pretty much guaranteed with that comment that all your future opinions and arguments will be completely disregarded.
I mean, that’s borderline idiotic what you just said there.
