Videos: Nokia X7 and E6 hands on
fahoum has found us a couple of hands on videos of both the Nokia X7 and Nokia E6, technically the newest Nokias on the block, expected to be widely available around June.
The hands on looks at the hardware in a lot of detail. The back looks really nice on the X7 and it has that slide out take away port like the E7. The speakers sound quite ok, I’d like to hear it in person though.
Those tapering edges, now getting synonymous with Nokia, translates to the E6 too (at least from the back). It’s good that Acer likes this design too and is totally ripping it onto their Iconia range. (Every time it’s on Engadget, folks write it looks like a Nokia)
There’s of course a look into Symbian Anna as well. It’s such a pity they didn’t beef up these new devices (and are basically all the other S^3 in different shells) they’re

I hope they announce the N9 soon, if not, I will be getting the X7.
Is it true that the Nokia N9 will only be for “developers”? Man, if that thing [n9] has a awesome music player and can receive MMS on T-Mobiles (U.S.A.) network, then it’s SOLD!
I hate to say this but.. I’m getting bored of these now.. the more I wait..
more rubbish 4rm nokia! Where da hell is the anna update 4my nokia N8! Bloody muppets keep on bringing out phones which need major updates, wats da point nokia!
anna is coming end of june dude not before
just noticed the X7 doesn’t have an unlock slider…looks like people will have to use the onscreen unlock.
The unlock sliders on the N8, etc makes life soo much easier (for me anyway!)
oddly enough though, looks like the E6 does have it!
finally a use for Nokia Bubbles
If I’m not mistaken, the power button doubles as an unlock button on the X7?
That is so bad!
All we need is a touch and type T9 to complete the set
Beautiful well written software, Carl Ziess, xenon flash, 3 speakers, low grade LED flashlight etc….
Jay u r right , they should hav added x7 in another segment . This is still the boring old configuration from nokia. Nothing new.
WTF is the point of the x7. Nokia should focus on advancing their phones/software, not rehashing the same old carp in a different shell.
i’m very happy with that. That means less problems for developers, because they have to deal with just one hardware configuration when they code software for symbian 3 devices.
Nokia has done that forever. They have a platform which they use for everything. There are cosmetic changes, but the “motherboard” if you like is more or less the same for all phones on that series.
I pleased they got the first S3 platform as good as it is, because there is/was going to be as many phones as there are now 5xxx series of them. I mean there are no weird problems with GPS or cellular functionality. Graphics performance is good, battery life is relatively good etc.
yeah but what’s the point in even releasing it? You think customers are gonna think wooo, well the n8/c7 was no good but we’ll be buying THIS one. Don’t think so….
Surely instead of spending all this time developing the same carp they’d be better off spending that time developing something new that might actually attract NEW customers.. (shocking concept I know nokia)
well i have a c7 and im bery happy with it. When people don’t want to buy a nokia, than because of software.
P.s. A playstation etc is also much weaker than a pc, but graphiks are good because software is exactly written to the hardware.
Well yeah, I don’t have any probs in releasing 2 phones around the same time in different designs. One for the camera buffs and a cheaper one for those that aren’t. yeah, makes some sense.
But this is the same stuff almost one year later by the time its released. I mean think about when we first heard about the n8 hardware – it was AGES ago. You’d think they would make some advances. Just can’t really see where this phone fits in. Hell, at least throw in a 1ghz processor to keep the cpu nuts happy….
I mean hands up who is actually gonna buy this x7 here?
Huge slab phones are not for me, because they don’t fit comfortably in my pants’ pockets, but on the other hand I might consider the E6. The Full Focus camera is a little bit of a downer for me, though, since I’m an avid photographer and can actually use autofocus cameras properly (unlike, say, Eldar
)
I’m going to buy one, and it may replace my N8.
If the sound quality is at least at the level of the 5800/X6 i’m sold.
why would you replace an n8 with one? Camera is miles worse. Bigger screen at same res does nothing but pixelate things more.
The rest is all much the same isn’t it? Or am I missing something…
Well you missed the whole point of the X7 which is the sound, the sound and the sound.
I really want these two loud speakers so I will be able to share a phone call outdoors, to hear Ovi Maps instructions in my car. I want to be able to listen to a podcast in my bed without having to turn the phone upside down. I want to hear bass frequencies when I listen to a music.
So yes if the loudspeakers are just average then this phone will be useless, if not it will be on my top list.
I know EDoF is worse than the N8 for photos but for videos it’s better.
And for the screen, 4″ will make it easier to type on the portrait qwerty keyboard, the N8 is really narrow.
Oh yeah and the C: drive is bigger also.
Interesting. Pretty sure you are a pretty small minority that would value speaker sound over everything else, but fair enough.
N8 speaker sounds pretty good (and very loud) to me as long as it isn’t lying on a soft surface. And obviously most people just use headphones if they need quality sound.
sounds like it’s gonna be quite a bit more than the n8 as well. Man, you must really be keen on good speakers
I think you two miss the point: The N8 was all about the camera. Most people bought it because of the superb quality. Now the X7 is all about the sound, but you say.. “nah, not gonna work”. Strange. I wonder if you approved that the cam was an important factor. I own the E7, if I had the chance to put a keyboard on the X7 it was mine already..
where the anna,
