Rumours: Some info on Symbian Belle
Image above via Tarik I think.
I got an email yesterday from someone who preffered names not mentioned . They seem to provide some details on Symbian Belle.
A lot of the bits we know about and “confirm” what we know and others are new:
- Symbian Belle in 5 months. October. In time for Nokia World 2011 EH (Supposedly in October. We have no dates, unlike last year where we knew already in February. This is most likely, things are being LAUNCHED at Nokia World 2011. If we know that, we know when phones might be coming out and that’s all hush hush for now. But yeah, October was the rumoured date.)
- Anna is next Month. June. That’s what twitterverse thinks too.
- Belle to have tabbed browsing (I don’t know if this means actual tabs as seen in regular desktop browsers or that recent Qt browser or just that slow Anna style multi window)
- Widgets non-resizable but of different size (as seen in first screenshots) look much better than what we’ve seen so far.
- No more apps folder, just a long list of apps.
I just thought i’d share with you what I know about Symbian Belle and what Nokia will be doing in the near future at least with Symbian.I was lucky enough to get to have a go on a test device running Symbian Belle and it was actually very stable and I would say almost in a form where it would be quite usable on a commercial phone.Looking over the website you do seem to know a lot about Belle already but I think i have a few things you don’t know. Here are some things i noted down about the system and some of the answers I received from the Nokia employee.
- Firstly the screen shots you posted about Belle are correct. The icons at the bottom have changed to those that are on the screenshots.
- All Symbian updates will be girls names and in alphabetical order from now on.
- There will either be 5 or 6 home screens (the employee wasn’t 100% sure on this)
- The new Nokia Pure font was definitely being used on the device.
- It will be around 5 months before we see the update. Next month Symbian Anna will make it’s way to the N8 and E7.
- The browser is much improved in usability and in function. Much improved load times, multi-touch and a better menu system with tabs, visualised history etc. (Only got to play on it for a limited amount of time)
- Maps will be improved yet again. I didn’t get a chance to try it out though
.
- The applications folder is now removed and theres just a big list of apps.
- And the widgets that have been circulating the web are indeed what will be in Belle. It looked sooo much better. The widgets were NOT resizable but each widget was a different size. E.g the clock was smaller but the social widget was still pretty large. All of the first party apps I tried had been updated and the look and feel had been changed. However all of the third part apps were still the same. The all worked in both portrait and landscape.
All of those things I’ve just said above are 100% correct as I got to use it myself, the employee didn’t even seem to want to keep it overly secret….

Sounds cool ;D
What else can Nokia do other than just talking?
And yet Anna is not released, Belle is meaningless.
Or Nokia wants to combine Anna and Belle and delay again?
anna is comming this june or july, it was confirmed by the ncc here…
Coming or released? Theres a huge difference.. It may be released in June/July, but getting it OTA could be around August/October..Even Later..
You can understand the lack of enthusiasm about Belle, given the speed of their Rollouts.(ie dead slow)
Symbian Anna have been pushed back to Week 30 (not offical though)
Was planned for June
will be release, sorry…
So you think it was Nokia who gave us this information?
There will either be 5 or 6 home screens (the employee wasn’t 100% sure on this)
so its someone who works at nokia or someone wh knows someone who works in nokia
Stop your moaning .. moan moan moan! It’ll be ready when it’s ready! Do you people even realise what it takes to develop software and have it fixed to be released to millions of handsets? If you did, then you wouldn’t be sat here complaining. There was a day when firmware updates didn’t exist, and now there are, you all moan because they aren’t out to satisfy your own needs. Stop moaning and be patient.
Forget Belle, its an awful long way from release OTA.
There will be new models by then,
Give us Anna ASAP whilst i still have the N8.. (Just 7mths to go before i replace..)
Quit whining and good luck finding something better than the N8 in the next year or two.
Only 1 month to Anna, and four more months to Belle!
Seeing a Belle running N8 gives me hopes about Nokia.. If they had done this earlier… Well, this brings my hopes back into Nokia, don’t you feel the same?
Great post Jay!
Sorry to be a wet blanket Bosh, but there are some who are still waiting for PR1.2.
Anna hasnt been released yet for N8 or E7 and will be months before that gets to be OTA. Belle is even further down the Track. So much so, that there will be new models to consider at that time and not just from Nokia.. Dont forget the W7 OS too.
There is no point getting excited about Belle yet.
Now if Anna was remotely close to OTA, i would be excited..
who is waiting for PR 1.2 ???
just flash your dam phone.
I have unlocked N8 and still don’t have PR1.2 available. I wonder, if I will get it at all, maybe they will skip it for my country.
But I am satisfied with my phone, I don’t understand why everyone is whining all the time. Of course, I would love to have Anna or Belle by now, but I can totally live without it. You’re just making yourselves mad, thinking about it so much.
My phone is locked to Tesco mobile (UK) but it’s just debranded, i got PR1.1 and PR1.2 on the same day it was released. Try debranding it, it’ll probably come through.
hmmmm… So it looks like belle is not the last update symbian will be receiving, thats good… I wonder if the update will reach Z… Hekhek…
The Zandra update?
Zoe sounds better!
Zarina…
Zuzana!
Zena =X
To show that Symbian will go down fighting =X
I want Symbian Candy (could be short for Candice) PR4.0
Would be funny if they choose that would put web polls of as they couldnt have a candy result
If Belle is stable as you say , why nokia wouldn’t release it NOW ???
Why nokia haven’t released Anna yet ???
Empty words and promises again . Someday Nokia will loose all fans…
Belle is not stable, it is just a concept for the moment. We don’t even know for sure if they started working on it.
There is no promises here just a guy who tips the site and say he saw something that might be cool, that’s all. And we’re not sure it’s not BS.
It’s not BS but its not ready yet. Simple.
Whilst Nokia is still mucking around, Samsung GalaxyS 2 is out.. Will i or wont i?
No one cares. Please go to Android, Nokia will welcome you back when you return disappointed realising that actually there is nothing better than the N8 on the market.
Hi Ninja :W
LOL. He’s returned to AAS under a new name also. I don’t know why he bothers, his obsessiveness over Symbian always gives him away.
i wish i lived in an imaginary world like yours
ps. n8 is crap
As usual, no justification or evidence from you that the N8 is crap. Just some text saying it.
But i don’t expect anything less from a troll. Now get back in to your cave.
i have explained many many times before just couldnt be fucked typing it again and since todays i shall copy paste for people for you
slow loading – app folders, menu apps itself
ui- so far worst, dont justify by saying it will get updates cos it ahsnt so far and we will debate about that when we do get the updates but now its shit and hard to use and looks old(s60v5)
apps? all the efforts nokia put into getting apps for n8 and when they started coming in finally (ive check the store) they called it a burning platform and wants to switch to wp7 and now no games or good apps in a while(around 2 months?)
laggy, gets stuck so many times i get so frustrated.
and installing apps takes for ages with the stupid qt app crap(preparing installing for minutes)
thats all i time to type now but i will make a copy so i can paste when idiots like you ask
My guess is new Symbian devices will launch with PR3.0 like Nokia E6 and Nokia X7 did with PR2.0
Yes. I refuse to use names. I will keep using numbers.
No more apps folder… but just a long list of apps!!! OMG …hope they fix the crashing issue.
My C7 is working great but I figured out when it crashes the most. If I install say around 50 games and put it in a single games folder and when I try to open the Games folder my phone restarts (Note: Phone mem 350 MB free).
But when I distribute the games shortcuts in different sub folders within the Games folder then it doesn’t crash.
Now my C7 is working so nice and didn’t crash even once after that. Hope they allow us to add folders as necessary or fix the crashing issue with many apps or HD games installed.
Won’t be an issue… As Belle will be QT Based, the reading of icons and UID links will probably be properly cached and not read out of all the exes at once.
1ST release pr2.0 then meanless belle
+1
No more apps folders, while everybody else is finally implementing them. Does anybody else see the irony there? Leave it to Nokia though to do something stupid.
I’m interested to see if they finally implement tap and hold on everything on a webpage in the new browser, and catch up to the competition in that sense. Faster load times and smoother scrolling, zooming and panning would be great to see too.
What’s up with the wasted space below the status bar? They saving it for tabs or something?
You are totally right. Removing folders is the dumbest idea ever. It’s the one feature that bugs me to no end on iOs and Android.
Maybe (hopefully) what they mean that os will come without folders and aps will be in one place, but users (should) be able to create folders to organize the things they want to.
Yes I do hope so. On reflection, it does seem to be a more probably choice, because removing folders altogether would kind of violate the whole structure of the OS.
Possibly they meant the “Apps” folder. You know, the one where things go after installation. You still have folders if you want.
Yawn…We need to stop putting the carriage before the horse. We shouldn’t be talking about Belle until we’ve got Anna. It kind of rubs me wrong that outside of the browser, the only changes being discussed are visual/eye candy changes. What about fixing the native mail client? What about a more usable Social Networking client? Why do Symbian fans chastise iOS/Android users for flocking toward “flashy” or “pretty” UI’s, but that’s the only thing they focus on w/ upcoming updates?
User Experience (UX)is just as important, if not more so than User Interface (UI)!!
first thing I notice on this image, is that although the thinner upper bar, the main central area has the same size and the list there contains the same number of elements as in my current PR1.2 phone. The whole space freed thanks to the thinner bar is simply wasted! This is the kind of inconsistancies that keep Nokia behind! Hope the 5 months from release will be sufficient so that they notice and correct.
I don’t believe it, the picture is just a photoshop displayed in the image gallery of the phone.
i wont care about anna,belle,c….z..
Hate listening about these girls
the only girl which i want is the JESSIE’S GIRL
aka meego
Well let anna release 1st…. Then we’ll talk bout belle or cindy etc….. Tired of waiting….. I myt settle for an android if this takes one more mnth……….
I’m waiting for the 23th update: X for Xena
i think thats too soon
am waitong for 26th update Zoe
I’ll be happy with Miriam
Its that a pornstar?
so wait a sec, you had an N8 with Belle and you took a photo of messages? cmon dude
lol
he could have showed more of web browser or menus huh?
No Folders, just now that every O.S. has folder, even IOS has something like that. I don’t know what there are in the Nokia’s people head. I really don’t know.
WP7 has folders already?
I know Nokia is removing the folders to get everyone used to WP7 but
yuck no thanks ..
I know Nokia is removing the folders to get everyone used to WP7 but I’d rather not have one huge long list when I press the menu button. Folders better be an option and by that I mean I do not want to update the firmware and find everything that’s so nicely organised right now dumped into one huge long list.
This screenshot I’ve seen loads of times, why is everything suddenly black and white? I would prefer some colour Nokia. My phone is capable.
Widgets – what if I want a larger clock? Making it so that the widget sizes can’t be changed is stupid because we’re stuck with whatever size the developer wants their widget to be.
Also the screenshot looks fake – notice there is no new Nokia font? The bottom bar looks the same as the one now even though rumours point to a new one. The gap between the new top bar and New Message is where the photoshopper removed the current top bar and didn’t move the menu up to fill the gap.
The image and the person providing the information are two different people. I put the image there as it was related to the post so there is a possibility that image is not real.
im sorry to ruin the party but this “miracle” that u see here is just an “vhome voyager home screen”
just install it and see that they matched!
the pic is 200% fake. i play with images in photoshop and this blog is sooo misleading. the top status bar has been made up of individual elements, my alalysis tells me. so sad that many dumbheads believe this LOL

Thanks for the update Jay…….:)
Why do i get the feeling that Belle is most probably not going to make it by October….
