The folks at WOMWorld have sent over the Nokia J, aka, The Nokia BH-806. Appropriately renamed around the shape, the Nokia J is a super stylish Nokia Bluetooth Headset. This is useful of course for handsfree phone calling whilst driving, though its also somewhat associated with busy business type folk.

Here’s a quick unboxing video. Photos and first impressions/preview below.

The packaging is pretty cool. It’s the classic blue Nokia box but the product (Nokia J) is encased in a clear plastic cage to show it off.

You can pop this off to reveal a slide out box contents

You get a charger, a clip on case, different size ear buds and a concise leaflet of instructions.

The design of the Nokia J is very minimalistic. It’s a sleek, curvy mirror clad, inconspicuous looking headset. If you have longish type of hair, people won’t even know you’re wearing this. If you have short hair, it sort of looks like jewellery. Though not as epic as the Nokia pirate earrings.

You’ll note that there are no hoops or ear loops to secure to the ear. The only thing that keeps this in your ear is the silicone bud itself (and you’re supplied with a few of varying sizes to get the fit just right). Surprisingly you can jump up and down and the Nokia J won’t fall out. But that’s if you get the fitting right. I don’t recommend this though.

The Nokia J comes with a case. Not just any ordinary case.

Sliding the Nokia J inside doesn’t just protect it, it switches the Nokia J off.

Taking it out switches it back on. A magnet secures the Nokia J in place

The case has a clip on the side so you can clip this inside a shirt pocket or anywhere for that matter. Finally, the case is also how you charge the Nokia J. Underneath is a microUSB port.

When charging a LED light on the round part of the Nokia J lights up red. When you unclip it, it turns green to show you it’s on and if already paired, it takes about 1 second to find your device and pair automatically. When paired, LED light is blue.

Pairing is really simple. The Nokia J starts speaking to you in various languages to press the call button which will set the language. This is useful as it gives notifications, like like “connected” or “battery low”.

It will also give pairing instructions. Pairing with a Symbian^3 phone is really simple. On the N8, open Bluetooth, search for devices and find the Nokia J (BH-806). No pairing code necessary. To make a call from the Nokia J, you press the one button to redial the last call. Alternatively, press for two seconds to use voice dialling.

Something that’s really cool is how you can pair two devices at the same time. I used a Nokia N8 and Nokia N86 (the nearest charged phones to me) and the Nokia J would connect simultaneously and answer calls from the appropriate phone.

The sound quality is superb actually. More on this with more testing.

I haven’t used this extensively, only receiving it yesterday.

Battery life? Well the stated says 5h, with an epic 3 MONTH standby time.
