Problem is, it appears Symbian fans are in denial about web browsing. They want so badly to have their browser to be competitive w/ the competition they focus on speed, but totally neglect user browsing experience.

Several times that Opera has come up in discussions I have asked what people do when there is embedded video. No one EVER replies. Apparently ignoring a shortcoming often enough makes that shortcoming disappear.

The discussion section in the All About Symbian linked article above is very telling. People are trying to convince others (and themselves) that Opera on Symbian is on par w/ browsing on other platforms. When Flash (embedded videos included) is brought up, it is conveniently ignored. Opera on Android can do Flash so it's 10x better than on Symbian. Plus, it can be set as the default browser and be opened up as such from ANYWHERE, unlike on Symbian.

Obviously it is not "useless" when so many people love Opera Mobile as their everyday browser.

The opinion of the majority won't change the fact that it's useless without flash support. :-)

I personally like Opera Mobile, but the fact that most of the Symbian applications don't support Opera even if you set it to the default web browser in system settings makes it very frustrating.

I've been told why this is many times before: WebKit apps will only use a WebKit browser, and override the system defaults. Hope this gets fixed in Anna or subsequent releases.

I have to say, it really baffles me how anyone can just say "use Opera, and problem solved." How can people all out dismiss Flash as if it adds nothing to web browsing experience? What's wrong with wanting as close to desktop browsing experience as possible?

When Skyfire released their browser for iPhone (which doesn't do Flash), so many people wanted it, they crashed the download server! To hear Symbian fans say Flash is useless and doesn't matter truly confuses me. Like it or not, Flash is the standard TODAY when it comes to embedded videos. Don't you wamt to be able to view them via mobile browser?

*End of rant*

I call BS! Flash should go away soon? Lets assume that is true. What about NOW? Can you see embedded video? Didn't think so. Try again.

Flash is useless and irrelevant? Really? That is a bullshit comment. Try viewing any blog entry on MNB that has embedded video. Unless it is in html5, you're shit out of luck. Most embedded videos today are still using Flash. Again, what do you do when there is an embedded video? Don't tell me that Flash is "irrelevant" and "useless."
