Nokia Top Brand in the Philippines (Google, Apple, not in top 10)

| July 16, 2011 | 30 Replies

According to yugatech, a blog in the Philippines, a survey by Nielsen ad Campaign showed that amongst the top brands in the Philippines, Nokia was in the top 10.

This was across all brands, not only technology.

And when I said top 10, I mean right at the very top. Number 1! Yugtech cites the report here. Can’t seem to find the direct story.

Top 10 Favorite Brands

  1. Nokia – 84%
  2. Nescafe – 80%
  3. Lucky Me – 75% (Food brand, they make some good noodles)
  4. Energizer – 73%
  5. Jollibee – 65% (The Number 1 fast food chain in the Philippines, beating even McDonalds. And heck do they deserve it. They have the best fried chicken EVER.)
  6. Selecta – 57% (I think they make Ice-Creams)
  7. C2 – 51% (a drinks brand)
  8. Gatorade – 51%
  9. Cobra – 49%
  10. SM Malls – 49% (Malling. A great Filipino past-time. Beginning as a tiny Shoe Mart and expanding all over the Philippines and China with Malls of epic proportions)

  3. coconut says:

That’s a reflection of Nokia brand popularity in developing country’s. All Nokia should do is push Meego (N9 yey!) in high end and they are back on top of the world. I have no problem of WP7 in NAM.

A bright future for our “strategic partnership” with MFST.

  5. Keist says:

Nokia will soon lose its popularity here in the Philippines once they shift to their Windows Phones. The affordability and flexibily of Symbian is the main reason why they gained so much popularity here. And oop, that must be an old statistics. Because now, nobody is buying Symbian phones anymore. A large growing number of people are already using Android and iPhones. In fact, you won’t see celebrities here use a Nokia smartphone. iPhone is very popular in the upper class. While the general public is already adopting Android.

    • Yoyo Ma says:

you’re right, but fail to point out that about 85% of the population cannot afford to buy iphones and android devices… Last i checked, 85% is more than 15%.

    • Microsoft muppet says:

Our “third ecosystem” will give an alternative choice to people who are tired of IOS/ANDROID.

Rest assured that we would provide all new features never before seen on the mobile landscape.

With the fruits of our r&d in our “experimental os” called Meego.

  6. Microsoft muppet says:

“In fact, you won’t see celebrities here use a Nokia smartphone.”

Strange. Coming from someone who lives in the Philippines.
our scouts have told us at Nokia HQ that there are still celebrities who are using Nokias like Bianca Gonzales with her Nokia N8.

  7. Deep space Bar says:

this is why in trust nokia until elop came

  8. xyberxy says:

apple product is for the people who don’t value their money… because they buy apple name(Steve jobs name)not the hardware it self..

IOS is a crap! for dumbs… useless without jailbreaking.. serves apple right

    • Diego says:

+1 IOS is a dumb system for dumb users, it cant do shit whiout an app for that

      my point of view:

Symbian = Internet Explorer, slow, but most of ppl still use it

IOS = google chrome, fast, and thats all

Android = Firefox, A good OS, but with so much useless implementations and fragmentations that may became a disaster on ordinary hands

BlackBerryOS = Opera, a good OS, full of professional and intresting implementations, but not much ppl give it attention

WP7 = safari, few ppl know about about it existence (except for icrap users, who know about safari as internet XD)

      • paolo says:

but you can download Opera into your Nokia phone and it will make your browsing much faster…I have an N8 and i use Opera Mobile instead of the default browser..

  9. woah! hahaha

    (proud to be a filipino) :) )

  10. Neil says:

Jay, Jollibee does not make the best fried chicken. If I will compare Jollibee and McDonald’s, I would choose the latter. But the best is KFC!

“Gravy pa lang, ulam na!” :D

    ^Do you understand? XD

    • Jay Montano says:

No way, McD has nothing on ChickenJoy. KFC chicken is most generic. I even asked my mum to bring back some jollibee cj from Philippines all the way to uk when I stayed behind some years ago, and was the first thing I ate when I got out of Airport last year. Guess I got hooked on it as a kid. It just tastes amazing to me.

  11. Usedtolovemeegoandnokia says:

Good to know! I believe Nokia was the most trusted brand in India as well last year.

    • Usedtolovemeegoandnokia says:

And Jay, I’m not from Philippenes so please hook me up with some sites where I can order Philipino food in Europe. Could I get those noodles online for instance?

    • Vikas Patidar says:

Did you checked for this year?

It is still remains at the same it was.

  12. Mohit says:

In India,It is the best consumer brand for 5years.

  13. And1one66 says:

I think that statistics is right. I mean yes, in low-end segments and mid-range phones, Nokia is really popular, while Samsung and Apple shares at the top spot where most of the rich people here use what they think is a fabulous phone. However, if you’re a practical person, you know how to use a phone, and you know how to value money and simplicity, then Nokia phones are perfect for you.

    • nt says:

I don’t think they put Samsung’s Highend devices as fabulous phone yet in the level of iphone but Samsung’s High end phones do get a lot of attention but in the more geeky (spec driven) crowd. ( and there’s a lot of those in the Philippines too). Samsung’s mid to low end is not bad either:). But yeah, iphone is the ultimate “it/sosi” phone unfortunately. I think iphones status is the same for some other countries around.

  14. jml191 says:

The only Nokia I have ever owned is the venerable N8 that I got for Christmas last year. Before that I had a Motorola Milestone. I used the N8 for about 6 months and I was constantly discovering new features since it was my first Symbian device and I had no one to yeah me how to use it, Nokia’s market share here in Canada is larger than the states because Rogers offers a few but they’re not exactly best sellers. I recently swi he’d to a LG optimus 7 (probably the worst WP7 device) and found the learning curve much easier. I still use the unlocked N8 as my party (camera) and travel phone (penta band 3g)and being in the navy I travel quite a bit. An interesting note is that all three of the phones I listed were purchased sans a contract and I’m due for an upgrade and I’m on the fence between a BlackBerry 9900 (if it ever comes out) because everyone in my family (with the only exceptions being the kids under 12, no joke its fucking nuts)and the N9 (I just think its cool).
