Non destructive Photo Editing on Nokia N9 – edit, edit. Save. RESET!

| July 19, 2011 | 13 Replies

Nokia Conversations have a post about the N9 editing photos. Now this isn’t new to Nokia phones, and you might have already seen hands on with picture editing.

New to note is something Damian Dinning called “Non-Destructive photo editing”. Here, edited photos can some how reset back to the original unedited version.

The general UI of the editor is a little clearer now. Intead of a sea of icons, you have a list of clearly identifiable actions. Some options like clip-art, colour filter and text addition don’t seem to be present in this view of the list (nor is colour, saturation)

I wonder if the N9 shoots in RAW? These non destructive editing features sound a little like using RAW editors on a PC. If it does shoot RAW, they should shout about it – loudly.

    • Jay Montano says:

No not really. If it’s something amazingly cool you can trust Nokia to be too ‘humble’ to shout about it. They’re still yet to gain some balls in shouting about EVERY amazing stuff to have.

NFC in C7? mentioned at launch? lol, no. It was found in a tear down. For all we know N9 has a golden-egg laying goose inside.

      • Mazze says:

That’s true. Nokia’s marketing is not very aggressive and things like that should be announced loud and clear. On the other hand this kind of modesty is also what has attracted me to Nokia in the past (and still does). If they started to run a Steve-Jobs-show that brags about every “new” feature and claims credit for its invention I would lose my interest immediately. But you’re right: there’s absolutely no reason to be shy of telling people that the C7 features NFC, and the N8 camera campaign could also be a bit firmer (though I highly appreciate Damian Dinning’s essays on why the camera has been designed the way it is and how it differs from the competition’s).

but i like nokia for its non ageessive marketung. A lot of people get tired by apples agressive marketing.

    • Jezz says:

could’ve sworn i read that plans are afoot for that but it’s only partially implemented etc.
Prolly best to check the maemo/meego forums, or dining’s new post on conversations.

There should be a video for proof

    • Viipottaja says:

lol.. yeah, they put out a story on their official blog that is not true.

but I gather you were just jokin anyway.

  3. SGean says:

Personally i would like to save my edited photos and original photos as a seperate file. The N8 editor is ok though the edited photos tends to be cropped down to 3MP =(

  4. Deep space Bar says:

i edit with my N8 and i’m fine with it ….it’s just uploading my photos to facebook that i hate they add so much noise to it it looks retarded and downgrade the quality of the pic as well

    • kay says:

if you are using the facebook app to upload the photo, it downgrades ur photo to reduce data costs. go to the full site and it will upload as is with no reduction in quality.

  5. BT says:

anyone know is there anyway (or app) that I can use to add text and change filters, saturation of my photos in N9, seems they got rid of some of the useful features
