Hey guys further to the N9 not been released in certain countries.
I have a friend who works in a Vodafone shop, he told me the Nokia rep was coming to the Poole area to talk to various networks about upcoming handsets.
Basically he (Vodafone)and others O2, 3, Orange all got told the N9 will definately not be released in the UK. I spoke to a couple of the other reps in O2 and 3 networks and they got told the same thing On a brighter note my mate at Vodafone did say that Nokia are releasing a Tablet next year Q1 which in the reps own words “will be different to anything else on the market” something will apparently be announced middle of next month August.

Seems he is friends with some guy in a Vodafone shop and had talked to a visiting Nokia rep. Initially he goes on that N9 is not coming to U.K, that’s not the juicy part, the juicy part is, he says Nokia are going to release a tablet next year ( Q1 2012 ) and announcement will be somewhere around mid-august.

Mid-August = 15th ?

There have many pointers to the company being Nokia, and we all know how weird Nokia campaigns are. Is it going to run a swipy Meego OS ? Or is it Windows 8 ?

Major question : ” Will it be Nokia ? ” I hope so, and all the various pointers lead to them and them alone. ;-)

Enough said, are you excited ??!!

Yes we are. Guess it will be MeeGo based since windows 8 is not ready yet. Something like MeeGo netbook UI would look very nice on a tablet

  2. Yemi says:

I dont care about TABLETS. I have an ipad 1 3G jailbroken for that. All I want is the Damn N9. I live in the U.S and I will do anything to buy the N9.

Sales people at phone shops are always the last to know of phone releae details anyway. Plus it only means the N9 might not be subsidized just like the N900.

  3. goosepig says:

    Great news, if it’s true..

Bloody shame about no N9 for the UK – will have to buy it outright now instead of a contract.

  4. goosepig says:

Dredging through the depths of my memory. I wonder if a ‘revolutionary’ device might involve touchless gesture. I recall Nokia taking patents on this a few years back. perhaps it has now come to fruition?

    Something like this -

  5. Ninja says:

I don’t think tablets make much money, the market’s not very big for them, someone correct me if I’m wrong?

Also, for anyone that wants an N9, I don’t understand what the problem is with just ordering it SIM free online from another country and then sticking your SIM of choice into it? And if that’s too expensive, surely you just get the network deal you want in your own country and make sure to get a handset with it for free that you can resell on eBay for a decent price, and that way fund your N9, no? I have done this multiple times before and it works well.

Finally, this a serious vote of no confidence from Nokia in WP – they are basically saying “if we put the N9 up against our WP phones in certain countries (i.e. the ones where N9 won’t be released) we think it will damage WP sales”. This is VERY bad. It is dictating to consumers, forcing WP down their throats when they would want N9 if it were available, and is market manipulation. NOT GOOD AT ALL.

    • vasu says:

      >> It is dictating to consumers, forcing WP down their throats when they would want N9 if it were available, and is market manipulation. NOT GOOD AT ALL.

      It is the m$ way.

    • Webby says:

Tablets clearly make a shit load of cash for Apple. Competitors shouldn’t just cede the market because they’re not quite as good at making tablets/making money out of them.

My problems with not selling the N9 here (he UK) is that I don’t want to go chasing around for one! It’s fucking simple: don’t make your customers jump through hoops to get the products they want! Especially when Nokia have so few compelling phones out there. (Please reinsert your N8 up your bum. I like it, but not enough to buy one. I don’t need to be told how amazing it is please.)
My contract is also up for renewal soon. I don’t particularly want a new Android, but I may have to get one if the N9 costs too much to get from wherever the fuck it is sold.
In short, this is fucking bullshit.

    • Viipottaja says:

Stop being so dramatic. While it may be a pity N9 won’t be available in UK stores, that is absolutely normal timing-to-market practise and optimizing of revenue. Little to nothing to do with their confidence on WP as such.

  6. rock says:

No N9 in UK? FUCK YOU NOKIA.

    • Keizka says:

Order it from Germany, problem solved.

      • rock says:

Yes but they clearly did it because people would prefer it to WP7

        • Guerrahp says:

They basically admit that the WP7 devices will not be able to compete.

          • Rock says:

Even the Android fanboys I know think the N9 is good :/

Nobody gives a shit about WP7..

Can’t believe they chose WP7 over that wonderful Harmatten UI…

        • Viipottaja says:

          BS

          • Rock says:

            I could swear WP7 only sold 2 million phones…

And don’t bring up the WebOS arguement. WebOS was good, but it lacked support which is what WP7 has and is still shit. WebOS also needed better Hardware, which WP7 has, and still fails.

            • John says:

No matter what OS Nokia adopts they still have uphill task to compete anyway. Nokia have missed a whole cycle. We live in a cycle where people want iPhones. Nokia phones are not desirable to anyone expect of Nokia fan boys.

i wouldn’t recommend any of my friends or family any of Nokia’s devices right now, I would tell them to get an iPhone.

Even as a Nokia fan I find the current set of devices the most boring ones known to man seriously they look so depressing when you go into a local Mobile phone store.

            • Viipottaja says:

So you are saying that WP will not sell and that’s why they won’t sell the N9? So they on purpose put out phones that are guaranteed to sell less than the N9, in your opinion? Nice.

I gather you honestly believe Elop is the Devil Incarnate, eh?

              Rock solid stuff.

              • goosepig says:

I think the jist of the argument is that the N9 will undermine their whole strategy to go with WP7, and as that is the choice of Elop, a big successful launch of the N9 could undermine Elop’s vision.

It just seems that Nokia want to ‘brush the N9 under the carpet’, so to speak.

It will also confuse non-technical users when they get presented with the choice of a Meego N9, or a WP7 packaged in the same casing as the N9.

                • Viipottaja says:

I agree with parts of what you say. But not so much with the “sweaping it under the carpet” part: is that why several carriers have already announced N9 will be available on them (those announcement don’t come out of the thin air, they mean Nokia has promoted N9 to them), and why there are stories on the N9 on a daily basis on Conversations etc.?

                  • goosepig says:

Which carriers have announced the N9, in the major markets such as the UK??

                    • Viipottaja says:

Err, none, obviously, as N9 is not being offered to them there by Nokia. I was, obviously, talking about other countries.

                  • goosepig says:

“Err, none, obviously, as N9 is not being offered to them there by Nokia. I was, obviously, talking about other countries.”

So it is that ‘obvious’ you cant name these ‘major’ markets?? Good one..

              • Rock says:

                What are you talking about?

Remember when the N9 was shown? Everyone was blown away.

                Remember when Mango was shown?
Not so many people cared.. And I’m saying Mango because the experience won’t change between phones because of their hardware restrictions.

If you had to pick the N9 or the WP alternative, I’m pretty sure a large majority of people would pick the N9. And obviously Elop realised this, which is why he decided to leak the ‘Sea Ray’ soon after the N9 was announced to blow some steam off.

That makes a lot more sense, than whatever argument you have for them not selling the N9 in a lot of countries.

              • Don says:

Nokia has been competing with itself and crippling devices since forever.

Yes, a bunch of highly paid cocks that risk severe egg on their face when (not if) WP7 does not take off will purposely sabotage internal competition, just like they have in the past.

          • Kyle says:

I don’t like that the N9 won’t be readily available in Canada, but once again just to provide a bit of perspective here.

Obviously Nokia wants WP7 to be a success and they want it to be a success in the markets where Nokia has been struggling the most (i.e. North America, Britain).

To get a desirable WP7 device to market as fast as possible, they went to the recycle bin and modified the N9 body for the Sea Ray. So the phones are the same colour and are practically only differentiated by one small button. To release the Sea Ray and N9 to the same market would produce a lot of confusion, especially for the wireless company that may chose to stock both.

You can’t fault Nokia for wanting to give WP7 a shot in those primary markets because that’s where they’ve made their bed.

From a stockholder perspective I could see how abandoning WP7 for MeeGo is a death knell for investors because it just looks like the company is just bouncing around looking for something that works.

It shouldn’t be too hard to find your N9 in another market, if you want it badly enough it shouldn’t be a stumbling block.

            • Average Joe says:

“Obviously Nokia wants WP7 to be a success and they want it to be a success in the markets where Nokia has been struggling the most (i.e. North America, Britain).”

You can “want” your phones to be successful, but in the end it’s the users that will buy them or won’t. Forcing decisions down their throats is not a good starting point to make them happy.

“To release the Sea Ray and N9 to the same market would produce a lot of confusion, especially for the wireless company that may chose to stock both.”

Then they shouldn’t have made the “sea ray” look exactly like an N9. This is a mistake on their side, full stop. Once again, after the burning platform memo and the “oh sh*t moment” interview, this is an absolute first that we haven’t seen in any company before.

“You can’t fault Nokia for wanting to give WP7 a shot in those primary markets because that’s where they’ve made their bed.”

Yes he can; he’s the customer, and as such, he’s always right.

“From a stockholder perspective I could see how abandoning WP7 for MeeGo is a death knell for investors because it just looks like the company is just bouncing around looking for something that works.”

True, but… who cares about stockholders? All American tech blogs seem to care about revenue, dividends and ROI more than the quality and features of products. If somebody cared about that, they’d be better reading some financial analysis site, instead of tech blogs who speak in terms of “being dead on arrival” and “blowing out of the water”.

“It shouldn’t be too hard to find your N9 in another market, if you want it badly enough it shouldn’t be a stumbling block.”

The problem is, that it much more easy to buy, say, an Android phone that costs less than the average Nokia phone and has more or less the same features. Nokia should be trying to attract customers in every possible way instead of suggesting them to buy their phones overseas from the internet.

      • mpb says:

Strange. Live there but I’m not quite sure if we’ll be able to buy one. I will import it from somewhere. In fact Nokias new CEO makes it fun to get one :D

At last a device for the clever ones (cp. N9Seconds ;) ): Where do you get your dream smartphone from if nobody sells it to you? That’s better than my old iPhone 3G and how i bought it years ago ;D

  7. anwargozo86 says:

    tabco = tablet computer??? hehehe,,,

  8. whousah says:

if it would be nokia, no leak at all about this “meego tablet”? i really wish it was nokia :D

  9. et3rnal says:

Ill wait till the mid=15th and see, hope nokia will do it again “something awesome like N9″
otherwise ill by the asus transformer lol

  10. goosepig says:

No official release of the N9 in the UK and other major markets obviously has serious impications for device’s long term success and viability.

Not least, a small user base in the UK is likely to affect the ‘hacker’ community for the phone – just like the very one that the N900 relied upon so much and helped make it great for ‘those in the know’.

    • Obstinate says:

I own an N900 and an N8 and if it’s not released big in every major Nokia country then Nokia can kiss my ass. I’m not going through the same shit I went through with the N900 having to spend too much time just getting it to do basic shit while it excels at browsing.

Not again Nokia, you blow this last chance you have and I’m fucking out!

  11. John says:

Make a phone that is worth looking at for more than 3 seconds before deciding to make sub standard tablet that will get eaten in terms of sales by the iPad 2.

Tablets are not selling because people want iPads and not tablets running android. Nokia joining the desperate masses will not change anything.

  12. Johnny Tremaine says:

    Meh.

There isn’t a ‘tablet market’ per se, as there is an ‘iPad market’.

The tablet space is less similar to the mobile/smart phone space, but is closer to the mp3/dap market.

Remember how the iPod had, and still has, 70%+ market share, while Creative, Sandisk, Sony and iRiver were left to fight it out for the scraps?

    That’s the iPad market.

  13. Johnny Tremaine says:

    To continue:

You want proof that it’s an iPad market? Just flip through a paper or online catalog of any major department store or big box chain, and count the number of third party iPad accessories relative to accessories for anything from Samsung, Acer, Asus or Toshiba tablets.

    Yeah.

  14. prashant says:

if any one would remember the designs that nokia collected for their tablets were supposed to be looking like a bigger n8 if anyone want to see then hit this link:
    http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/15/nokia-collects-design-patent-for-tablet-evokes-n8-aesthetics/

    • ssdh says:

Well instead of a bigger N8, it should look like a bigger N9 instead, and with 12MP camera like N8.. Super tablet!!!

  15. Shmerl says:

This is despicable. Elop doesn’t even hide his efforts to benefit Microsoft, instead of Meego. Amazon might ruin his plans, making N9 available worldwide.

    • Dan McGuire says:

      +1
I don’t care of it’s not on the hight street, Amazon will supply almost all N9′s to people in the UK. At least it will make the N9 quite exculsive, but I think that’s not good for Nokia in terms of sales, but they clearly don’t want the N9 to be sold, right?

      • Shmerl says:

Looks like there are different people in Nokia wanting different things. Meego supporters managed to push through N950 for developers program, and N9 wasn’t canceled outright. On the other hand Elop and some other interesants are obviously trying to downplay Meego. That’s why we get such weirdly looking situation in the end.

  16. Mac says:

Nokia better release this tab (if it is them) with everything that the Eee pad transformer has and more. If it works as fluently as the N9, then half the battle is won. Android tabs are good but compare them to an iPad and there is a clear line drawn between them in terms of fluency. If this tab has accessories like the Eee pad transformer and couple that to connectability to mice, usb devices etc, we could have a good competitive tab. I’d hope that the ui is good and game changing like the N9 to really turn the market on its head.

  17. Markk117 says:

u can buy n9 on the net like expansys.com etc!

  18. peet says:

I think we are all missing the point here. If Nokia can produce something we all think is more than amazing like the N9 is then who’s to say they don’t have the ability to produce alot of new amazing things in the future as well. People are too shortsighted about strategies and quartal incomes to realize the potential.

  19. Jedibeeftrix says:

    not good enough, i don’t want nokia’s WP7 rubbish.

give me an N9 in the UK on contract.

  20. Paul says:

Ya know what biggest irony about the N9 is. ALL of the ads for the N9 (current contest, worlds shortest ads) were shot in Toronto. You know, CANADA, a place that the N9 will NOT be available. WTF? Nokia can really piss off their loyal customers sometimes. Gonna have to order it from Finland I guess, or, dare I say, break up with Nokia after 17 years.

    • ssdh says:

I wonder if those people from the 9 second ads were able to keep their N9, if it was me I would say something like “I don’t need cash, just give me this phone”…

  21. Blackidea says:

We know this TabCo thing has a “wheel” UI.
We also know the Nokia N9 has “Swipe” UI.
So if TabCo is Nokia, why they use a new Wheel UI and not the Swipe like the N9?
Because implementing the “swipe” into 7 – 10″ display will make a looong swipe.
    And that not natural anymore.
So making a “Wheel” way to navigate from one page to another is more natural and you dont need to make long swipey.
    If this right, means :
TabCo = Nokia + Harmattan + Wheel UI (for tablet).
    Well, that’s just my idea.
    Anyone with me?

  22. Ama says:

As I tipped twice to tips@mynokiablog ;) a carefull look at the dns record of whoistabco.com show it uses the same anonymizer for the physical/postal adress than aerials-crew.com (anybody following the N9seconds contest should see the point now).
Since this anonymizer doesn’t seem very famous (first time I seen it) it seems that the same -canadian- company is in charge of the communication around the N9 and the tablet (a meego tablet ?! would be G.R.E.A.T)

    • Ama says:

for sure, I missed a post on mynokiablog sry :) : too much informations and not much time to read it : still five N9 to win !! :)

  23. Hello, Neat post. There is a problem with your site in web explorer, would test this? IE still is the market leader and a huge portion of people will omit your fantastic writing due to this problem.

  24. Machfudz says:

    ough..
    hehe…
