Video: “Plonk/tidigare Mong” demoed on Nokia N950 #pong (and 20 minute hands on with MeeGo-Harmattan)

| July 30, 2011 | 17 Replies

Shankey has found a game called “Plonk/tidigare Mong” demoed on the Nokia N950 MeeGo-Harmattan phone.

I guess it’s like Pong/air hockey without a goal: two players involved with two ‘paddles’ with first to score 3 getting the point.

This app apparently developed at the MeeGo Conference in San Francisco this year.

It’s good that it supports multitouch so two people can play (think – kids in the back seat, in between lectures with mates)

There’s also a really informative 22 minute hands on. Note that this was recorded three weeks ago, and even then the build I believe on developer N950 was not as up to date as that on the N9. Check out the more recent N9 demoes to see a more representative experience of MeeGo-Harmattan (This one is marked, Developer Edition). Regardless of that, it still looks really impressive.

Just release the damn N9 before the iPhone5 already!!!

Brilliant, simply brilliant! MeeGo-Harmattan was a Nokia saviour, you Nokia fans should consider this a tragedy.

Such a very well thought out OS with attention to small details. I liked how you can quickly pick a month and a year in the Calendar. The round alarm dials are awesome! The list selection is fantastic(the big letters that appear when you scroll)

I wish he had shown audio and video seek though, is
    it accurate?

Jay, can you make a poll please…

    MeeGo N9
    WP7 N9

    Which will you buy?

I’m amazed how Elop didn’t see a potential in this. Truly amazed.

It’s not the OS that well thought out, that’s a train wreak to be hones. MeeGo has fallen far behind in development and is eating money with no return in sight. That’s why Elop chose another OS.

The UI (Harmattan) is the brilliant part in this. And it could be applied to any OS if they so wish. And they’ve said as much. The Harmattan UI or elements of it will live on in other products. And it wouldn’t be surprising if elements of the harmattan UI makes it into future versions of WP since Nokia and Microsoft are developing the OS together with input from other OEMs.

      • Jeff says:

Far to soon to claim anything like that…
There’s much more depth to harmattan, than just it’s UI.

Wait till the N9′s out & there’s thorough comparisons between harmattan/WP, before you make such baseless assertions.

      • Cod3rror says:

Forget about Nokia and Microsoft developing an OS together, that will never happen.

As for eating money, just wait till WP7, BOMBS!

Jay, the poll, please! Which will you be buying N9 MeeGo, N9 WP7, None.

Round alarm dials are really amazing.

I am wonering if anyone can develop a calender like we have seen in Windows 7(not phone).

The “tidigare Mong” part is swedish, and it just means that the name of the game was formerly Mong. So it seems the game is now known as Plonk.

But hey, when I think about it, “Tidigare Mong” sounds like a great name for a game if you don’t know any swedish. Seriously!

I think Nokia will release these Linux Nokia phones once every few years. Think of it as Nokia’s wild card. They know customers will get bored over a same OS, so a change will keep them hooked.

So many applications and no hint of slowing down………..
