Nokia 801 – Possible 16mp Belle or make believe?

Get that bag of salt and throw it over your shoulder.

The same person who claimed to have info on upcoming Nokia Windows Phones – Nokia 900 – has said their source has divulged some more information. Ignore the actual MS paint design job there. That is probably just to give an idea of what it looks like.

This time it’s a Symbian handset. With the new Symbian Belle it has:

This is supposedly going to be announced in Nokia World 2011, along with some amazing QT powered S40 handsets . The Nokia 900 is said to be launched at an event in February.  The main event in February is MWC, which Nokia’s Mark Squires said they’d be going in a big way.
Cheers to Jill for the tip!

And if they built this as a base for affordable future phone models, this could last for several years, instead of the 1 year cycle that the “N9 will be the last of its kind, so I don’t buy it” -people have gotten a bit too used to.

  2. DGui says:

Not coming, qHD is the only next camera centred Symbian device. This is fake.

    • rock says:

Why would it be qhd though. that would cause fragmentation and most symbian apps would look poor on it.

      Right?

      • MoritzJT says:

Why should they?! By the time this comes out, all of QT Components are freely scalable, they are vector based.

Thats the whole purpose of the new UX. Scalability. Easy porting for devices like E6. Code once and QT will automatically adapt if you code it wisely.

      • DGui says:

Leak earlier confirmed the N8-01 having a qHD display, BUT I’ve heard that the 8 and 9 series is WP only so if it isn’t canned it’ll be 1. A qHD screened device 2. Series 7 3. The last Symbian shooter. I doubt we’ll see a Symbian running camera flagship again… :( N8-01/801 canned, like the N9-00 (N950) and the E7-04…

  3. art says:

    wow nice specs……

  4. Calvin H says:

God damn can we get another Meego Harmattan phone or what! Also I really can’t accept the choice of an island camera like the N8, in my opinion it is the only design flaw of the N8, even if it is for the camera’s good.

Where the hell is my N9 already!

  5. James says:

    So ah….

Why are they supposedly still adapting great hardware for Symbian…
When it seems they’re leaving their (former) Symbian replacement in the cold?
    (MeeGo/Harmattan)

    Schizophrenic Nokia is schizophrenic :(

  6. realtechie.. says:

who the fuck r u man u can’t read carefully it’s 1.2ghz dual core processor.

  7. Team Cod3rror says:

Symbian cant run modern hardware it is committed to ancient arm11…..Elop tried hard at qualcomm to come up with working snapdragon cpu for symbian but it didnt work so on feb 11 2011 with n97 in left hand and burning platform memo in right hand he killed symbian for good!

    • pep says:

ohh den how come old samsung i8910 omnia hd with old symbian s60 can have cortex a8 processor

    • MoritzJT says:

Bullshit even the Multicores of STEricsson run Symbian. And the Kernel S^3 Upwards support it.

Get your facts right. Check all that remains in googles cache of Symbian Foundation sites.

  8. marc says:

the dual core cpu can be real people. remember we are talking about the succesor of the n8 which is camera orientated. and if u want fullhd 1080p video playback or recordinh you need a powerfull cpu or a powerfull gpu. but im not saying its real but it could be. i hope it is

  9. zaxxx says:

    more symbian phones…..

  10. Mac says:

You’re brave bro! I’m chicken shit to try those mods! Aah…will just have to wait for the official release, whenever that is! :)

  11. Ninja says:

1.) The screen resolution is not disappointing at all. I’d be perfectly happy with that.

2.) That 16 Mp camera resolution sounds significantly too low for the example I was given of the use of the high end camera.

    • Harangue says:

      1) 640 x 360 is just too small, not for general menu browsing but it is for web browsing. It’s just a missed opportunity. 800 x 480 is nice, 960 x something is unnecessary though but nHD is just too small, I already feel that it is too small on 3,5″

2)16MP and above will create a heck of noise. I’d rather see more image enhancements on 12MP than even more MP.

      • yasu says:

They could have gone with 854 x 480 to preserve the 16:9 ratio, like on the N9.

  12. Doffen says:

Brilliant apart from the screen resolution. Hopefully it will have sufficient RAM, e.g. 1GB.

  13. Lawk says:

Seems fake, nokia would know it’s a graphics processor not an adapter. Also you wouldn’t say “in the Q1″ you would say “in Q1″ when using that abbreviation.

If it is real then good, but the resolution is just too low for a 2012 device. I know it’s a small screen but they should go a little higher….maybe 960?

  14. stylinred says:

    Announced @ Nokia World?

So they’re going to announce a “dead” phone that will be better than their saviour WP7 device?

    Elops crazy

    I wish but I doubt ;)

  15. This is clearly a fake.
16MP? Doesn’t make sense at all with the slim design in mind. There’s no space for a sensor that can keep up with the N8′s sensor
The design? Looks totally like crap. Nokia doesn’t build such “rectangled” devices these days. Front button is positioned way too low.
X7 has no unlock/lock slider. Why should the successor of the N8 still have one?

And did I mention how crappy the drawing is…? That guy must be around 10 years old.

    • Nrde says:

“X7 has no unlock/lock slider. Why should the successor of the N8 still have one?”

Maybe because having one is clearly better for the user.

I’m sceptical over the specs, especially 16MPix camera. For a while now the resolution hasn’t been the limiting factor with photos. They should up the resolution only if they can keep at least the same low light performance or make it even better.

      • I never found them to be very comfortable in use. They’re too small and do not provide enough grip.

        • flame says:

indeed. the reason n9 have 8mp is because it will be too bulky if they increase more, morever 16mp? liar

          • Tej parker says:

absolutely, just making 16mp doesnt make wonders. that guy must be foolish to even mention it. it spoiled his whole plan of fooling the dumb fans. poor guy. there is more to imaging than megapixels !

  16. Oh yeah, and I forgot… 2 speakers? Where does Nokia want to place them when the N8′s speaker is already built into the convexity.

I hate it when people create such bungled crap.

  17. Felipe says:

what smartphone should i buy, defy or n8?? in my country they are at the same price..

  18. https://twitter.com/#!/elopbuttface/status/108302855152218115/photo/1

@Felipe You are asking Nokia users here, what do answer do you expect to get from them?

  19. hihihihi says:

    Worst fake ever?

  20. h3csc says:

Fake? The specification sheet doesn’t meet professional finish at all, it is not even align in layout.

  21. Linus says:

Just one thing. I WANT ONE.

  22. winson says:

in modern world anithing can happen….

  23. Doug says:

Idiots. It’s time for 32GB of internal memory + microSD expansion, and they need to change the damn screen resolution and go to a 4″ display.

  24. bastian says:

I think they can´t change the resolution because of a symbian software limitation. For the iphone 4 apple had to duplicate the resolution, that was the only way to keep the compatibility of the apps. but I don´t see it as a big deal. And I don´t really understand why someone would need more than 48gb on a phone. In the iphone the max is 32gb non expandable memory. For me this specifications are great.

    • MAH says:

“think they can´t change the resolution because of a symbian software limitation”

Resolution not limitation. E90 has 800×352 inner screen.
