15.6″ Acer MeeGo notebook with Sandy Bridge Core i3

| August 31, 2011 | 31 Replies

While ASUS and Samsung are making some pretty slim and pretty small MeeGo netbooks, Acer has produced a relatively gargantiuum

  • 15.6″,
  •  Sandy Bridge 2.1GHz Core i3 processor
  • 4GB DDR3 RAM
  • 500GB of storage
  • Intel’s GMA 3000 graphics set
  • DVD burner
  • 3 x USB 2.0 ports
  • 2-in-1 card reader and, of course
  • 2.6kg
  • 381 x 253 x 34mm
  • VGA Camera
  • 400EUR
I’ve not thought about MeeGo Netbook UI going on a notebook. Suppose then it’s like a ChromeOS notebook in some ways

Now I think why MS spend money to apart from Meego, if it become succesfull on mobile devices, the next thing will be PC (it could become familiar to people, and with the support of Intel Devs would bring the apps)

  7. Razor says:

    @ Luisito

So tell me why linux based operating system such as ubuntu, linux mint(katya), peguyn os, fedora or debian isn’t popular or succesfull as windows 7 or mac os(snow leopard)? And why do you thing meego will be the next big thing if those operating systems, as i mentioned it above aren’t even famous or popular like windows 7 or mac os? The answer is simple.

    • I thought MeeGo required an Atom proc. Is the i3 an Atom, too??

    • Luisito says:

One of the things that is stoping linux becoming more successfull is the lack of some drivers… its well know for example the problem that Broadcom wirelles controllers present in most distro (already fixed more or less) and in the video camp it took worst it you dont own and Intel, Nvidia or AMD/Ati controller… Another thing is the lack of some consumer programs that isn’t available yet under Linux (for example I really need AutoCAD 2007/20XX under Ubuntu, not another just AutoCad) because the first one, of course someone would think, well Linux is free, so why payware are needeed??? or Linux users dont wanna pay for nothing!!! (and the second is wrong)

With Intel behind it,Meego could catch the attention of those Devs… Altough ultimatelly I’m thinking on this idea of Post-PC era, and wondering why is PC diying???… and well my toughs bring to Windows, yes, Windows… Its well know, works right most of the time, and last version is a great OS, but… look under the hood and its the same as Windows 2000, and even like windows 95… it still has the messy Windows Registry (Why MS dont kill it), Still has the same flaws on the Explorer, and well it isn’t take seriously the change to 64 bits computing simply the basic PC architecture got stucked… of course Intel has its part on this mess (and that is why them “allied” with Nokia, their main goald wasn’t bring Meego to the smartphone, their goal was to push the Atom processor line, and by extention the X86 Arch. to the Smartphone market, that is becoming the new PC)

      And the answer is…?

  8. Razor says:

    Sorry, think!!!!

  9. symbian ~Camisole says:

meego rock , microsoft shoud killed before it got too bigger to handle it and killed thier own windows os.

  10. Ninja says:

PLEASE do not start putting whatever you feel like putting on this blog. It is either myNOKIAblog or it’s some horrific child of Engadget and Gizmodo publishing whatever IT-tech-shit floats past their noses.

SOME Windows Phone stories we can just about stomach on here as your argument that they have relevance is just about plausible (though noting that Nokia have ZERO Windows Phones on sale today).

But this story has NO relevance to Nokia (despite the incredibly weak MeeGo link). In fact, please do us all a favour and delete this story. Next you’ll be publishing stories about sheep farming and where to find good beer in downtown Manchester :(

    • Harangue says:

I’m sorry? Do you have a subscription here that you pay for? Do you actually pay to read here?

I also don’t see a sign/banner anywhere where it says that MyNokiaBlog is a Ninja subsidiary.

What it boils down to is that it is a blog run by people that do it in their spare time and because of that they can post whatever they want. Maybe not the added writers, but the owner of the blog (Jay) is free to do whatever. Even a full-on shutdown would be an option (Hopefully not happening ever ofcourse)

I hope you see the lunacy of your post. And if it was a troll post, well plaid. You win. ;)

    • Jay Montano says:

I’m sorry, but if I remember correctly, MeeGo is an OS from Nokia and Intel. It has much deeper roots than Windows Phone so I want to follow what happens here across other manufacturers. It is important to still see interest from other manufacturers for MeeGo. Here it’s quite significant as they see it as something to put on notebooks too, not just netbooks.

Also, thank you for highlighting the “Nokia” in mynokiablog. Also check out the “My” bit.

Our readers are varied. Some love Symbian, Some love MeeGo, Some Love S40, and yes, some also love Windows Phone. Whilst I and the other writers here try to do cater for them all, I don’t want to cut down on news about certain OSes because someone doesn’t like it. There’s a thing on this and many sites on the internet called OPTIONAL CLICKING. You know, if you don’t like a certain story, you don’t have to read it. Other people, as evident in the comments, are still interested in what’s happening in MeeGo (such as further deployment of products by other manufacturers).

I’m sorry this MeeGo story displeases you. But you do have the option not to click on it.

    • Hypnopottamus says:

Poor Ninja. No mention of Symbian whatsoever has hurt his feelings. I worry for you after 2016.

  11. Sym^3 says:

Is Meego only for netbooks or can i install it on my pc?

  12. deep space bar says:

fuck yea i’ve been waiting for a meego laptop cause i haven’t seen any netbooks as yet..same with thr ubuntu netbooks, but this will be a good addition to the ranks since……chrome os is a fail and Google has too much on it’s plate with android, legeal issues and now all the manufacters, this is where nokia and Intel will strike right through…since there is so many problems with them right same with microsoft and apple all problems right now

  13. Marvin says:

An i3 looks like an overkill for something that is supposed to run on a smartphone.

But who knows, maybe Nokia are aiming at the PC OS market

  14. Doffen says:

MeeGo on more form factors should be good news for those of us that hope that Nokia continues the N9 line of phones. Hopefully some of the Android makers hedges their bets with a few MeeGo devices. This is the only way MeeGo can gain momentum.
