Video: Symbian Belle, Try something new.

| September 26, 2011 | 20 Replies

My brain might be fried from the hectic day today, but this video sent in kinda makes little sense.

From (and probably spreading further) it’s a video about SymbianBelle. True to Nokia style of ads, this really doesn’t show you anything.

What they’re trying to say is “try something new”, but to most people they want to try something new that’s appealing. It’s not like that “try something new” when you’re being coaxed into trying fried mealworms. But the message isn’t clear enough. What are the appealing things they’ve mentioned about Belle or the 700? Possibly a big fat nothing.

So, Nokia, right back at you. Try something new – like a new idea for promoting Symbian Belle. This sucks.

Cheers Simone for the tip!

Update: Seems it wasn’t just me. You guys and some twitter reactions suggest, yes indeed this was crap. Even if was just for online, you should NEVER squander your opportunity to deliver a coherent and Nokia +VE message, Nokia folks.

Maybe they should just try _something_ !!!

    • yabai.youth says:

Agreed, especially if your talking about Canada. I haven’t seen a single Nokia ad. even since Elop took over. I know Elop said that they were going to pay more attention to the States, I hope they plan to pay more attention to Canada too.

  2. FireDragon says:

I cannot watch it right now, but I think it must be some kind of teaser? One thing I do want to say that Nokia should be focused to promot the ‘why Nokia’ factor more now a days to increase motivation for sale.

Most importantly they need to focus the devices out to public on ASAP basis, not to mention the updates too. The availibility of new devices is much important and with their ads.

    • Ali Abdulla says:

      dont bother…
its reminds me of iphone ads, when they “introduce” facetime as if they invented it..

nokia now is introducing “sms conversations” and uhm, multiple swipable homescreens? :S

  3. scapegoat81 says:

No thanx, i’ll try the N9, i don’t care how long it takes…

  4. N8ownerwantingtobuyN9 says:

I love Belle but this ad is a piece of crap. Fire the ad company or rather, the higher ups at Nokia who asked for and approved this crap.

Ad agencies do what they are asked to do.

  5. BellGo says:

Wow. The worst ad I have seen from Nokia..And they have had some horrible ones.

  6. AlOnE89 says:

Seriously, I get no message from the ads.
Are they cutting cost by not hiring any talented marketers or they just don’t know the word of marketing?
    Jeez.

  7. JD! says:

I loved the last 2 words “This sucks.” lol…

True to Nokia… They have not got into a habit of sucking :D

  8. Ronald says:

What the crap is this.lol lol. people are shown more than the OS.lol.lol

  9. JFH says:

This is an international boiler plate, so that other country can localize it with native language menu options and text. Meaningless without the localizations though. Seems they put it up too early, right now it is meaningless. I do really like the way the new curved UI elements are emphasized. Looks really good.

My god! Wat a load of rubbish. No wonder apple are out selling nokia phones in europe. Make it nice and simple yeah!! Sack nokias pr advert team right now. Its sad day.

  11. masood.akhter says:

And am sick and tired of nokia naming ther phones by numbers! E.g n8,n9,c06,1800,8210,n95. You know wat i mean. Grow up! Make it simple like.iphone, samsung galaxy,ht desire. The new nokia windows phone sounds good SEARAY. Come on nokia move with the times! How would use like it if all nokia staff wer called by numbers lol. Not by ther real names. Jesus crist even dogs are given names.

  12. Cod3rror says:

    “Try something new.”

Most of your customers did Nokia and they are not coming back after trying Android and iOS, LOL!

  13. squircle says:

    mindfuck advert!

  14. guest says:

It’s really hard to make an ad for a product that sucks. ‘Try something new’ is pretty honest, they don’t make false advertisements like they did before with N97, N8 etc.
