Windows Phone Mango update begins rolling out today for existing devices.
According to Engadget, the Windows Phone Mango update began rolling out today for existing devices.
The status of such update can be viewed over at:

Pretty much everyone is at “Delivering Update” except Samsung Omnia 7 Because Samsung are unfortunately massively SHITE at delivering updates to devices. It’s not a surprise that they have “***Except Samsung Omnia 7 models”.
This update brings the Windows Phone 7.5 experience on other devices closer to what you should expect on Nokia Windows Phones.

Gizmodo claimed it was ’2nd best’ to iOS.
Engadget also really likes it but both say it just needs a few slight changes for it to be fully complete.
So someone’s still reading Gizmodo.
Yeah occasionally go there when I’m bored. Its typically a shit website for reviews and just about any of the other crap they post.
Could you give me quote of when they said it need a few slight changes to be fully complete?
Near the end on both? Read it yaself :p
Twitter is literally exploding from reviewers and users raving on how good Mango is I seriously need to get hands on it myself.
I haven’t seen much negative comment on Mango so far, shame we have to wait a few months longer for some Nokia hardware.
I cannot wait
Wow, you’re right there’s tons of ecstatic twitter messages about WP Mango.
Darn Samsung, most likely I can enjoy the rest of the Party in December judging by their speed of updating. And that’s if I’m lucky. Why Samsung always suck with updates?
Did you read that thing about forcing the update? If not; http://www.wpcentral.com/force-mango-update-early-through-zune-software
Yeah, but not a fan of putting software unofficially onto my phone. Not MeeGo on N900, Not Anna/Belle on N8 and not Mango on my WP. I guess it’s because I want to judge the software as its intended and can’t rule out anomalies based on being unofficially on the device.
TRue, though as a cheepskate, as well as being a Nokia user in the USA, I’m glad i got belle instead of waiting for Anna (still not here). And The HD2 has been a great device for trying out various forms of Android, as well as Windows Phone.
I was able to update my HD2 through through Zune today (was already on 7720) and really like Windows Phone in general, and I also really like Belle.
There is an element of risk to unofficial updates and it’s good to research the experinces of those who have gone before and yes, it isn’t quite the authentic experince and there may be odd bugs or things that don’t work. For me it’s been a mostly enjoyable adventure, but i totally understand those who don’t want to risk it.
Regarding the waiting, I’m fearing that Nokia might just miss out. Considering the presumably affordable Omnia W and high end Omnia S from Samsung and the Titan from HTC that could be out earlier than any Nokia device.
Still though, if that rumour about Compal shipping 2 million units a while back could indicate that a device is announced at Nokia World and shipped the on the same day or a few weeks after.
One thing is important though, and that is the hardware shouldn’t be any worse than what Samsung and HTC put out. In other words, 1.4Ghz proc. 16GB memory and a killer camera, but that shouldn’t be a problem.
It will be true Nokia form to release great things late. I am too jaded to expect Nokia to release on par devices. Until I see it, I expect them to whip out their wand-of-mediocrity, entertaining their masochistic tendencies.
Symbian Belle is a prime example, all the goodness is coming when people have long left or don’t care anymore.
Yeah, that’s the fear I have with Nokia’s WP effort. HTC Radar style devices for 9 months, and just when others passed them by they start to release something nice.
But still, I’m sort of expecting something great to happen @NokiaWorld. If not, Samsung is tempting me big time with that Focus/Omnia S.
Samsung are definitely on a roll, their fight with Apple in the courts prove that
I have got to admit a Samsung Galaxy s 2 style device running Wp7 from Samsung would be a mighty device
judging from the amazing Android version.
“But still, I’m sort of expecting something great to happen @NokiaWorld. If not, Samsung is tempting me big time with that Focus/Omnia S.”
Don’t resist then, give in. Nokia’s CEO said that he would really like Samsung to do well with WP7 after all…
Fully expect the first nokia windows phone to be good, but nothing too special, except maybe in a nicer looking body. The good stuff to start to come from them in Q1/Q2 2012.
The real special stuff I don’t really expect, after all they didn’t have that long to develop it.
I’ve just got a few demands though, 1500mAh and up battery, decent camera and a screen size of 3.7″/4.1″ if they can tick those boxes and also managed to make a stylish exterior it could be a winner. I’d pick up 2 in an instant.
True, but according to the if Nokia Windows Phone7 is absolutely stunning, then I will be happy to wait for it.
Let just hope Conor Pierce is not a liar.

I think I can wait a few more weeks or months. It’s just that my N8 is pissing me off ever more each day.
I know there are people that have no hiccups whatsoever with Anna, but I must have some weird edition then. It’s slow, it’s eating up the battery (barely 1 full day now) email client still sucks (stops retrieving email for no reason) poor touch response and there are some more nuisances.
It’s ofcourse not guaranteed that WP or any other OS is fault free, looking at you Android. But Symbian and in particular the Anna update haven’t been able to impress me at all.
i would hard reset that phone. Also maybe you need to do the touch screen calibration!
Mango=Cardboard
4 october Iphone5 (King)
“Mango=Cardboard”
As I haven’t tried it out yet, could you please care to share your observations? Concrete examples and parallel comparisons to competing OS’s would make your arguments more convincing, of course.
“4 october Iphone5 (King)”
If, indeed, the simpler and more restricted ways suit your cognitive capabilities better, then yes, Apple products may be of your liking.
Thank you in advance!
If there is an OS more restrictive than iOS that’s Windows Phone, so don’t try to use “less restrictive” as an argument for WP7.
No, that’s not true. WP is restricted, but definitely not more than iOS is. In the worst case scenario they are both equally restricted.
Does WP7 let you keep the application files that you download to later offline installation? Nope.
WP7 is much more restricted.
Why would anyone download an app and install it later?
I still haven’t read a case of bad restriction. Every WP restriction that i know of is for good reason and helps the security of the platform. Let me remind you that Microsoft deliberately/consiously abandoned the less restricted previous OS windows mobile
From reading nearly all of the blogs (Engadget, The Verge, WP centric sites, etc.,) the Mango update/rollout is quite successful. Not everyone will get the update today, but with Microsoft publishing the ‘Where’s My Phone Update’ page on their site, users are able to see where their carrier is with regards to delivery. It looks like all unlocked/unsubsidized phones will get it right away.
Given that Nokia will be carrier centric (at least in the U.S. according to Chris Weber) I’m very encouraged by this Mango update as future updates on the Nokia WP device I plan to purchase should not experience any delays. As a matter of fact, probably all oems (save Samsung) will probably do well with future WP updates.
Microsoft did a great job; lots of happy folks as a result:)
Shame Nokia didn’t come up with a similar page for the Symbian Anna update.
maybe you should give us a mini review once you get it jay.
If you’re into dreaming, dream on and consider this a relevant update that’s going to rock the world.
Otherwise you probably understand how little the general public cares about Microsoft’s futile attempts at mobile OS market, and how big a failure this too is destined to be.
As is Nokia. Trading burning platform to a sinking ship – not much of an improvement 500 miles into the ocean.
Rotten fruit, if there ever was one.
So noone cares yet u bothered leaving a comment? Having just read many positive comments I get the impression that u speak only for yourself. pathetic troll
got to agree and +1 for all the trolls out there, pes ta xrisostome.
Having given up on the OS differentiation option,
Nokia must compete on HW execution (fast release etc).
But I don’t see how Nokia can possibly compete against Samsung in that regard, when Samsung makes most of the components itself (that means cheaper and faster supplies)
So Nokia is doomed.
@Meego – I have given this some thought and I think there are a few things:
* Design – Nokia not only design beautiful devices, they know how to design reliable devices – Samsung … not so much
* Nokia has special privileges with Microsoft – They will be able to do something to stand out from the crowd, although MS wants to be careful not to alienate other OEM’s
* Best of breed – what if LG starts making the best screens? Do you think Samsung will go out and use them … I doubt it … they are hamstrung having to use their own products … albeit mostly good.
* Radios, antenna, shell materials – Samsung don’t make everything, and Nokia knows a thing or two that Samsung doesn’t about making the phone part of the smartphone work.
* Integrated mapping
* Best cameras in the industry
* No messy legal battles with Apple
All this stuff sounds small, but HTC and Samsung don’t make awesome hardware, Nokia does. Nokia knows they need to speed up execution and no doubt they had a few unproductive weeks (maybe months) after the Feb announcement. They (Nokia) know their future is depending on success with WP7 devices … expect them to come back or go down swinging.
Samsung does make awesome hardware in my opinion. On the design aspect, Samsung is not that good indeed. As for the camera, Samsung is manufacturer of stand-alone cameras, the techniques of which will be integrated into the phones more and more.
My point is that all the little things you mention, Samsung is at no disadvantage or is closing the gap very rapidly.
On the other hand, Nokia is not closing but being left in the dust when it comes to what Samsung currently does much better, ie: all the core components such as APU, SSD, OLED display etc. and the integration of them. When it comes to HW, there is no competition frankly.
These are what matters at the end because you need to be CHEAP and FAST to release new models.
So without being able to define and provide unique experiences (ie software), Nokia has nothing to offer that Samsung cannot offer. (ok maybe prettier shells).
@Michael Prince…Great post! Would love to see your posts over at wmpoweruser – some posters just don’t ‘understand’ Nokia.
Got it this morning, went smoothly and loving Mango. I already had the developer preview but the final release feels so nice. Lots of great apps out there already too.
Really loving the online app directory too, pretty awesome how you can buy an app on the web and the phone just automatically installs it while you are away!
For people wanting to see what the app marketplace is looking like at the current stage go check it out here

i dont see metro ui rule the market!
if nokia can succeed with wp7, it is only second best to iphone ecosystem!
@fjfjfj…*Only* second best? Is 2nd such a bad thing?
Anyway, I’m calling it – Nokia will succeed with WP!
I don’t see why WP would succeed. Remember that launcher for the N8? I did an experiment. I downloaded it, and showed it to people to see what they thought about it. And before you go “It was a really bad and limited launcher, that doesn’t count!” I know that. What I wanted to see was what was peoples first reaction to it, based on how it looks. Anyway, I showed it to about 20 relatives of mine, who are anything but tech maniacs, but they do have smart-phones. Their reactions were the same. They didn’t even want to touch the N8.
I also downloaded a better launcher for my android. It was smooth, it had the full animations, full tile editing and pinning and you could actually use more colors than one with your tiles, and change the size of your tiles. (which you can’t do with WP) What I learned was that I just don’t get WP. It was almost infinitely more limiting than android with no benefits over it. Oh, and no one I showed it to wanted to use it.
I’ll be honestly surprised if WP Mango will sell a noticeable amount more than WP 7.
Why? Windows has advertised WP a lot, has had a lot of phone manufacturers sell their products, and despite all this WP is becoming less popular every moment. (By market-share)
Now this proves that people don’t like the Metro UI. (at least the way it is portrayed by WP) Android sold a lot when it was 2.0 or 2.1. It was the design which attracted people. Changes from WP 7 to 7.5 are like how Symbian changed when it got updated to Anna. Yes it got better, but the changes probably didn’t boost the sales that much, as it still had some limitations.
In a similar way for WP to succeed they don’t need to add 250 small features, but majorly change the design, because it is that which is causing the low sales. Like Symbian will change from Anna to Belle.
The only way for WP to sell more is trough Nokia, but if the buyers don’t like WP or prefer another operating system (as has happened with Samsung and HTC) they wont buy it again.
So I think Nokia’s future is dark. They are focusing only on WP, while they should still have more options, so that should WP not sell they wont fall to no 10 in phone manufacturing.
Again, maybe WP will sell. But as things are now, I don’t see why it would.
Asking 20 relatives of yours (who also share your bad-taste genes) isn’t exactly reliable statistics. In my view the only thing that hurts Windows is the name itself. Microsoft should had named the new OS XPhone (I asked a local Vodafone rep about Windows Phone and he thought I was talking about windows mobile, you know, the old ones with the styluses and the tiny icons)
+1
Maybe you missed everything else I wrote, the relative thing was just the beginning.
I just find it odd that everyone I have ever met and showed WP to finds it ugly and thus doesn’t want to even try it, while it is supposed to be so modern and brilliant.
PS. Again, don’t ignore everything else I wrote.
The same can be (and has been) said about Symbian in my case. It all depends on the demographic you’re “sampling.” The tech cmbkogosphere in general seem to like WP (as far as ui goes). We’ll see in the coming weeks/months about usage when actual reviews start to surface.
True. But as I said Belle is a whole new design for Symbian. For WP it changed as Symbian did when it entered Anna.
So again, I don’t see why WP would sell.
I get the opposite reaction with an actual device. People always think it has some sort of super processor!
They also love the way everything flows, you don’t have to worry about navigating with tiny buttons you just swipe your way around and it is beautiful, Xbox and Pictures hub always gets so many comments especially!
And of course the people hub, usually they flip out when they come across themselves on my phone and see that I actually have better integration into their lives then they do themselves
Nokia more slow .and still late ,not has positif plan ,just fail
