Remember that beta Search app that was by invite only? Looks like it’s now available on Beta Labs

Here’s how they describe the app.

Everything is just a tap or two away with Universal Search Beta—making your Nokia phone your tool for planning and doing, finding and going. Just enter a query from the home screen for personalized results and suggestions as you type. You’ll discover all the information you need, whether it’s on your phone or the web. And because it’s your phone, Universal Search Beta is smarter—using your location, usage and preferences to deliver the results most important to you.  Universal Search Beta results work seamlessly with the applications on your Nokia phone, so you can act immediately. Just tap to call a friend, download a game, map an address or browse the web. It’s that simple.

Is that the app’s native KB or the Symbian’s new one? Looks pretty good…

  2. Cod3rror says:

Are we STILL on the basic OS features like universal search Nokia?

You can not only search apps, contacts but you can also search inside the email and notes on the iPhone.

oh i thought this was released with Anna since ive been using it for ages lol

    forgot it was a beta

  4. As says:

This is just awfull, very laggy. Belle has much better search app.

  5. Slayer says:

the version in anna is newer than this, wtf

  6. Kobus Nell says:

It’s very similar to the Anna Search app, although you get two extra widgets – Popular contacts and Popular Apps.

Popular apps would be very handy if one could exclude certain apps, like the menu. The widget is nice, with scrolling icons, like the favourite contacts widget.

The contacts widget is like the favourites one, only it gets populated automatically! Very nice. If only social network integration was done better, one could even have facebook/twitter references. Oh well.

  7. Gabriele says:

It’s strange: the default Search in my E6 never let me search outside my contacts and the web, this beta (and the leaked one before) lets me find everything, instead…

  8. Alex says:

Is this a new Symbian keyboard? Really hope that some changes will be made, it really sucks now… very uncomfortable to type!

  9. Future Investigation says:

Don’t expect too much from a beta. The speed will come up with the release version. These are not tested against Pillu attack -method. You can clearly see a drop in the application performance by trying it (forcing many instances of the app running simultaneously).

  10. Astound says:

I like the portrait qwerty from the screen shot, hope it will be used in some update for now swype it is

  11. FireDragon says:

I will talk about the keyboard layout here, keyboard layout as some said looks good, yes it does look good but such layouts will be a super huge pain to use for regular and longer contents. Without basic symbols, without cursor movements keys, without the capital/shift key, I cannot imagine how simple typing will be a headache for those who “type” things. So yes keyboard layout is a good “OK” for small tasks such as this search but shouldn’t go as regular keyboard. Unless taken care of basics.
