Nokia Singapore

Alright Nokia fans from Singapore, including myself, save this date, 7 December, in your calendar as the Amazing Everyday will be rocking Singapore soon.

Prior to the launch day, there will be plenty of other amazing activities in store for you. So click on the link below to find out more.

Btw, I never knew there was Knightsbridge in Singapore. Lol the only Knightsbridge I am familiar with is the one in London where Harolds is.

On a more serious note, I don’t want to ruin the mood but I personally feel that Nokia has to do more to regain the loss of market and mind share in the Lion City. The Amazing Everyday seems like an effective marketing campaign but the “Apple is amazing” mantra has been deeply entrenched into the minds of most Singaporeans. I shall stop ranting and confine my rants to a separate post.

Anyway, back to the topic. Just an observation on my part, as I was touring Orchard Ion, a luxurious shopping complex in the heart of Singapore, earlier today, I came across the Nokia Singapore Flagship store and was pleased to see live demo units of Lumia 800 displayed. I guess this is part of Nokia Singapore’s effort to prepare for the launch. So, for those who can’t wait to get your eager hands on them, you can go down to the Nokia Store or the mobile operator retail shops at Ion to give that gorgeous baby a test drive. Not too sure if other outlets in Singapore have these live demo units.

Disclaimer: The following information might not be accurate and subject to revision.

While playing with the phone, I realised that, like the Hong Kong edition, it lacks Nokia Drive, Maps and Music services. Not too sure if that particular handset or the entire Singapore variant is lacking these applications. I would need to visit the other stores to find out and clarify with the sales staff.

I hope to keep you updated with pictures of Nokia Lumia Phones in Singapore and find out about the missing Nokia apps.

In the meantime, :) and wait patiently.

I believe I saw an article saying Maps, etc update for new release Asia was coming, maybe Softpedia.com.

Singapore, land of the good economy and decent debt levels. Don’t buy Apple products for the hedge funds or they will attack your currency with their profits like they did with Europe.

Maybe it’s more like 4 out of 5. Only a few years ago, Nokia had about 70% of the Singapore market. Now we hardly see people having those newer S^3 devices. We may still see couple of S40 devices and Nokia is virtually extinct in the corporate world here. The local media here seems quite positive about the N9 & let’s hope Lumia help us regain some foothold in the mindshare and marketshare.

  3. Heron says:

Its the mindshare. Apple has that incredible mindshare in Singapore where word of mouth spreads faster. If you noticed that Google Trend data that analyst used, Singapore made a heck of a noise for them.

I am a loyal Nokia user, but even among my friends, they are rocking Androids from Samsung, HTC, LG and co. That’s something Nokia has to get. And I am borrowing an Android from my friend to see what the fuss is all about.

Wish Nokia can hurry up. If it is a battle of ecosystem, they need to get theirs up ASAP.

Hah, im from Singapore too and my friends always wax lyrical about wanting an iPhone 4S for its camera without having even seen photos from the N8 (Symbian Belle is really much better just in case the clunky-laggy arguments start to surface), the perception that Nokia is done for is still very much prevalent unfortunately.

Still hope to get an N9 soon when the price is right even when Lumia is finally out.. :(

The Nokia 800 starts selling in Mother Russia on Thursday.

  5. Jaydee says:

Managed to influence 3 of my colleagues to get the N9.. Even flashed PR1.1 for them as we are all having the Telco sets and Pr1.1 is not released on the Telco sets.. yet! Not gonna do the same for the Lumia.. Gonna juz sit n watch on the sideline. Don’t want anything to do with the WP..
Oohh.. Btw.. Nokia Care staff at Vivo City suck!! I bet they’re using iPhones or Android phones as their personal phones. They are clueless with their own products..!!

    • Edmund says:

Hope you’ll share what your colleagues thought about them after some time of use! It’s really high time for Nokia to recapture the mindshare!

      • Jaydee says:

One actually bought for the camera after seeing pics/vids taken from my N8; hoping the N9 would at least inherit some of the N8′s lens n photo taking skills.. He’s coming from the 3gs n upgraded his plan with the N9.. Was disappointed that the N9 doesn’t support flash videos but wasn’t really a deal breaker for him.. Satisfied with the FB app. after the PR1.1 update coz other than the camera, FB is VERY important for him.. Not much of an app. guy but would appreciate more travel apps. on the Meego platform..

The other two was a surprise.. Only once did i do a demo of the N9 to them n they went out n got one each.. Sort of an impulse buy i guess.. So here i am trying my best to ease them into the Meego platform. Btw i believe both are first time smartphone users. Good that they r not already entranched into any existing ecosystems.. And they are educated to have ‘bluetooth file transfers as a basic human right’; u hear me Apple/Microsoft..??

And that ends my report. ;)

    Edit : entrenched

  7. Heron says:

I do need WhatsApp considering that a lot of my friends are entrenched in that specific ‘cross-platform’
ecosystem. Wish Line will come out for WP7 as well, but I will take WhatsApp.

I have to be honest though. If any Nokia Wp7 phones comes out with Swipe UI, I will get that.

how much will lumia be sold in singapore? i may ask a friend of mine there to buy me one, as im in the philippines.

    • Shaph says:

Hmm, I tried asking the sales staff yesterday, but apparently they will not reveal it until the launch day. Perhaps you should wait a little longer until the phone is launched?
