Video: More Nokia N8 animation effects.

| December 2, 2011 | 22 Replies

Folks like to tinker with the possible animations on the N8. Here’s a video that Orlando (I think that might be Deep Space Bar here) posted on the N8 facebook group.

Anyway the video is below. The effects look pretty impressive though some are quite jarring.

  2. vishal400 says:

oh my, that is fake chinees n8. the keyboard, the colour quality,

    • Ali says:

I did it, You flash with the new belle and the official one. It’s not fake. The Chinese guy put it. Just go to n8fanclub.com and the directions is there. I love it

  3. Rock says:

Surprised it does the animations smoothly o.O

  4. mussiexxx says:

i have both jin hao theme effects no my n8 i call it mix effects

  5. zymo says:

Dual Core, Quad Core…?!? FTW? All you need is a good OS.

    • Jay Montano says:

True. Though you can’t deny it could look even better on 701 with beefier CPU/GPU/RAM.

I think Nokia will eventually need to have dual core even if it’s just for marketing purposes.

      • zymo says:

Marketing has become more important then ever before. Just look at Apples gorgeous Marketing Team and what they have reached.

        • Jay Montano says:

Apart from the people that actually make the design, a good enough marketing team like the gods they have at Apple can make the uninformed masses believe in anything.

They are the playmakers. The true puppeteers, conductors what have you. They don’t just tell you they have what you want, they bore holes into your mind and place it with desire and an urge to want what they tell you to want. They’re quite amazing.

beside 4s i also usin optimus black which runnin on 1ghz singlecore and to be honest i cant tell the speed different between optimus black with 1ghz and my n8 with older cpu. im not use my n8 anymore but no way i wont sell it,n8 will be my last symbian and maybe nokia phone. :)

  7. Loca says:

i hate these personal animations. They make phone look cheap. Freezing all the time. Crashing. Original themes are optimal ones

    • Ali says:

no it doesn’t if you know how to use it my friend. By the way you could just go to the setting and turn it off if you want. I have N8 and E7 and I wish I would get the same things to E7 but there is still no belle for E7

i hate these personal animations. They make phone look cheap. Freezing all the time. Crashing. Original themes are optimal ones. It makes me feel like people around me thinking i am phonefobic and with my phone allthetime and have no any friends :)

Jay, we’ve exchanged a couple of words on transitions back on the tweaking transition speed on the N9 post – this is the prime example of transitions I DO NOT want to see. Ever.

For the most part they are ugly and disconnecting, and in 90% completely unnecessary, and then there are those that are even completely pointless (i.e. rotating plane behind the menu, wtf?), and not to mention that abhorrent almost 3 secs long transition between landscape and portrait. And while we’re at it, most of the transitions take more than a second which is unacceptable by any sensible UX standard, WP7 being an exception (but then, they’re hardly sensible), ‘least you want to watch a movie or impress your 12yr old cousin, instead of actually using your device.

There were many words that crossed my mind when I saw this, none of them was ‘impressive’…

    • Ronald says:

oh you are soo right. What has this world come to. Waiting in line at the super market, or the grocery store is ok. But 3 SECONDS to transition from portrait to landscape is just too much. Now that’s unacceptable! And 1 SECOND for transitions to take place is an abomination. Next you will only have to think about an app or changing from portrait to landscape and out will just magically happen. How does that sound??

      (sarcasm intended):)

    • Jay Montano says:

I don’t disagree with you. I have posted my own rants on animations talking about why they’re necessary but why the animation style must be appropriate.

They are impressive for being on the N8, but as I said, it was jarring. I didn’t want to repeat my previous rants on animation and just wanted to let N8 users enjoy this possibility if they wanted from their N8.

      • Antonio says:

I have downloaded some animations for my N8 which I find really great and professional looking. They have a meaning, don’t take too long, and really add to the experience. I’ll record a video when I have some free time and show you.
