Rumours: June 2012 – Best camera phone on the planet, Nokia WP to replace N8…

| December 19, 2011 | 101 Replies

Now we had first heard that the Nokia Lumia 900 was going to have a better camera than the Nokia Lumia 800. Pretty standard since we are still to reach the levels of the N8 again.

Later there were rumours that the N8 successor would come in both Symbian and Lumia WP flavours.

According to a “trusted source” of  TechPinas, there will be indeed a N8 successor that has WP (though it still doesn’t discount that there would be another n8 successor in Symbian)

2012 will be the year of Nokia Windows Phones. There’s a NokiaWindows Phone to be announced in June that will replace Nokia N8 as the best cameraphone on the planet

The Nokia 900 is expected to be announced early 2012, and thus shortly availably thereafter. This suggests that the Lumia N8 successor is a different phone. I hope the 900 can still beat the other WPs though. There’s no room for excuses this time. This is Nokia’s second round of WPs.

Elop has always stated that what we see in the N8 is a fraction of the brilliance possible at Nokia’s labs. With that fraction it has ruled the all other camera phones and other digital cameras. We want to see more in 2012 please.

Take this with a pinch of salt. Maybe it’s just a prankster playing with them.

  2. Shriek says:

Sniff there goes my last hope for a Symbian belle n8 successor. :(

I just didn’t like windows phone. I reserved my judgement till now but few days back i played with a Lumia 800 and just didn’t like it. Ok i did use the phone for some ten fifteen minutes only. But i still didn’t like it. :(

I’m now without a future OS option, symbian is practically dead, WP7 i didn’t like (maybe if i use it for longer time??), Android sucks (used a defy+), and it’ll be a cold day in hell if i have to buy a iOS device.

Guess i’m going to goto feature phones.

    • krustylicious says:

Pretty much how i feel. Wp7.5 is a massive downgrade for many that have used symbian.

Just have to wait for my n8 and e7 to break before I change phones ..

It won’t be a nokia though

      • Valmon says:

I concur. A sad day if true.

      • j says:

well i agree, but on the other hand: i played recently aroind with the n8 of my girlfriend. the device is getting better with each update. for the price now you getba really good camera phone. 2012 with belle.
when they try us to force to wp i would either leave nokia or buy a cheap n8.

        • reptile says:

Yeah, the n8 is becoming a really amazing option for many reasons. Someone on this site said this a while back: The Nokia n8 is going to become more powerful all the while becoming cheaper and cheaper.

      • Bosh says:

WP 7.5 a downgrade? Maybe a downgrade in lag and nonusability

        • Cocco Bill says:

So where’s the file manager in WP7? I need the ability to copy/move/delete all kinds of files/directories freely. Also copy/move all files/dirs freely between the phone and PC. And that means not needing any stupid restrictive software like Zune/iTunes to do a simple basic task that copying is.

As long as WP doesn’t let me do that, it’s unusable and a massive downgrade.

      • BellGo says:

        Yup. =(

      • dr_zorg says:

Quite so. I bought several S^3 devices, should last me a while. But what then? My only hope is that GSM/3G technology will still be here for a long time to come and that Opera Mobile will be running on those devices during that time.

    • TrollKnightRises says:

      Heard of sony Nozoumy?
Its a 720p display ICS android phone with 12mp camera
and also up coming SGS III is expected to feature 16mp camera

      • Shriek says:

Yawn like everyone has said before number of megapixels is not important, the optics has to be good.

Till date the N8′s optics is untouchable, if a good substitute comes though i guess i’ll be the first to jump onto it.

        • Cocco Bill says:

Yeah. What I want is a sensor at least as big as in N8, great optics and Xenon flash. Megapixels are not that important. In fact they could drop to 10 Mp and have bigger pixels in the sensor instead. That way it would have better low light performance.

    • Deep Space Bar says:

      i said the same thing…people didn’t believe me……

now i’m eyeing android since it’s the same layout at symbian belle but i’m waiting till the new symbian devices with better specs and a slight bigger screen come out

  3. wes? says:

    June, could be WP8 then.
They said that WP7.5 is not yet capable of processing sensor data as well as Symbian does. If I remember correctly…

I still hope for a N9 sucessor as replacement for my N8. Played with both N9 and Lumia 800 for about a quater each. Liked the Lumia, loved the N9…

  4. N8-02 says:

    Wp on n8 successor
    i dont like wp7 or 8 9 10
i want symbian belle or carla on successor

    • Paul Grenfell says:

Agree.. WP is not my scene at all..

    • Anastasios-Antonios Toulkeridis says:

seeing how Lumias top every sales chart i’d say you belong to a tiny minority. WP FTW

      • dr_zorg says:

His opinion was that HE personally, does not like WP.

Your opinion was that.. you are against his opinion?

What does his “belonging to a tiny minority” help if HE, personally, does not like WP?

Is that somehow supposed to give him an nerdgasm?

Once again clueless WP fanboys sticking their comments where they are not wanted.

        Seriously, have some tact.

        • migo says:

His opinion isn’t worth much given he says he doesn’t like 8, 9 or 10. They’re not out yet. If you pass judgement on something that isn’t out yet, you’re useless.

          • dr_zorg says:

Let’s see here.. So not liking an OS before you try it makes you useless.

            Ok.

So if you are calling a human being useless without knowing them, what does that make you?

I think you stepped right into it with that comment, my friend. :)

            • Mazze says:

Funny how some people don’t like things they have never seen, not to mention that don’t even exist yet lol (re Windows 8, 9, 10…).

      • Cocco Bill says:

For “tiny minority” there are quite a lot Symbian users in the world. Here’s some stats.

The full smartphone population is less than 23 months old (complete replacement of total smartphone installed base). Here’s statistics of the last 23 months back from Q3 of 2011, ie latest available data, which makes the global installed base of total (new, not second-hand) smartphone base:

        OS . . . . . . . Installed Base . . Market Share

        Android . . . . . . . . . 190 M . . . 31%
        Symbian . . . . . . . . 190 M . . . 31%
        iOS . . . . . . . . . . . . 114 M . . . 17%
        Blackberry . . . . . . . 93 M . . . 14%
        Windows Mobile . . 17 M . . . 3%
        bada . . . . . . . . . . . 8 M . . . 1%
        Windows Phone 7 . . 5 M . . . 1%
        Others . . . . . . . . . 33 M . . . 5%

        Total . . . . . . . . . . . 649 M

According to factual data (and not some WP7 worshipers deluded opinion), it seems that WP7 users are really the tiny minority here. And then Lumia users are only a small portion of that already tiny WP7 base, which means they are practically nonexistent group compared to Symbian. :D

  5. Doffen says:

    WP = no buy!

  6. Erik says:

If n8 successor is a wp is going to be a failure for sure, they either put Symbian or don’t make it at all

  7. Jalpatine says:

    WP = yes buy…

I like the people first touch. Hope we get soon a WP with some kick in the engine…

  8. Sun Down says:

I love this. I’m glad the smartphone camera king successor will be using WP7, but I’m also taking this with a pinch of salt.

  9. ggg says:

not many people do care about camera on mobile phone,

    • migo says:

Actually, that’s changing. Especially with printed pictures no longer being common.

    • Bosh says:

Most of people that want a smartphone do care. Not in a “I want a 50 Megapixel camera phone” but in a “I want nice day and night photos to post in facebook”.

  10. MDF says:

the best OS aka WP7 with the best camera

    thats what it should be

  11. symbego says:

How about compromise? Make it with 2 variants, 1 with Symbian, 1 with WP. I think it is still possible, Nokia have done that with N9 & lumia 800

  12. Cod3rror says:

Well… that’s logical, does not make sense to put your best hardware on an OS that is going out, and they want to promote and move people to WP7, what better than a top camera?

  13. Goc says:

Excuse me if I don’t believe some random blog from the Philippines.

  14. ashutosh says:

    seriously.. android sucks, wp umm no views at all.. symbian = dead, meego – abortion;
Gone are the days of good phones with refined OS and great battery backup.

    Sigh..

  15. ashutosh says:

And moreover, why do they want to have optical zoom, C’mon leave to Digi Cams, already N8 has great camera- what it really needs is 1 GHz processor, 4″ screen & 512 MB RAM, thats it.
(same like GALAXY S was updated to GALAXY S Plus with upgraded processor)

  16. TrollKnightRises says:

If this rumour is true then effectively “auto focus” feature is killed with N8 back in 2010….Now all up coming symbian carla, dona, elina etc phones will come up with EDoF crap!

  17. hosny santos says:

this is bad ,nokia must believe in owns OS .maemo and symbian ,like a options against MS fail, or nokia will be for sale, for american money , and nokia is burning for his own guilty

  18. Dc says:

Think my n8 wil be the last nokia phone i use! I mean serious with belle catching up with the likes of android why dnt nokia want to support it anymore? Why didnt they just kill it of completely. The way i see it now is nokia is only using symbian for the cheap crappy phones which they could sell in the poor countries while that poor people have too wait months for updates. But in the meantime the rich people in america gets the best nokia phones with fast updates! Looks like nokia only reward you if u willing to spend money now but if u havent they ignore and delay updates for loyal customers who bought their phones a year back!! If this is true i wil honestly say fuck you nokia, will swallow my pride and move to android as much as i hate andriod.

  19. Francis says:

After reading some comments herewith, many users still dreaming Nokia will turn back to Symbian in future.

Well, we must accept that Nokia is no turning back to Symbian anymore, his only route now is WP. Nokia must ensure the best Nokia Phone MUST BE WP, or else Nokia will go vanish faster than before, since no reserve plan in Nokia.

I still hope MS will bought over Nokia and cut off all debate and uncertainty over, and united all remaining Nokia Users whose loved Nokia WP (eg Jay)…

For those still not happy with Nokia & MS move, you may try others phone like Samsung Galaxy Series (it is fantastic !) to see whether you like it or not…

    • Deep Space Bar says:

that will never happen without symbian…….they need it to survive

it’s their main OS and if Nokia/elop think that WP7 will save them ……XD start laughing cause symbian is still selling more then Wp7

    • Cocco Bill says:

“Well, we must accept that Nokia is no turning back to Symbian anymore, his only route now is WP.”

Then Nokia will die, because WP7 is a true failure with its 1% market share. Down from 2% a year ago. Instead of growing, it’s shrinking! Even Samsung’s Bada is ahead of WP7 having twice the market share. Bada has grown steadily its market share unlike WP7. And those two are about the same age both being released last year.

  20. Prasenjit says:

Dear Friends, I have heard from my friends working in some relevant companies that the coming camera flagship from Nokia will be a big woooowwww but even better is that the new Nokia industrial design language will be applied and u will again see same chassis for both symbian and the windows phone stuff.

Although none of the sources are directly liknked to Nokia and I think I sud not speak more ;)

  21. Viipottaja says:

Rumors are rumors. It is certainly true that Nokia must get its best cameras on WP as quickly as possible so if they can already do it mid-2012, then great! At the same time, there are many Symbian users and fans in many markets, so it would make good sense to have a camera flagship on both platforms. Another let’s wait and see thing.

  22. Suabesh says:

I know u guys have absolutely no reason to believe me but I work for Nokia.

I have seen this camera module in action and it is the most incredible mobile camera. Unless other manufacturers raise the bar significantly, this camera will wipe them clean.

    • Prasenjit Bist says:

Why wont we believe u buddy “Suabesh”…. Nokia employees too roam around the web its for all. great to hear that I heard exactly from my friends who are not in Nokia Now but involved in teh camera supply chain ;) its going to be an epic camera better than N8 and will set the game on…..

  23. Prasenjit Bist says:

But my info says this aweome camera will first come on lumia device followed by symbian both will have same industrial design but another news from the same friend who used to be in nokia s60 team the new device on symbian will also have a great symbian update coming up. just keep watchin he he …..

    • Luisito says:

Hope yours words come true… I still wanna my symbian…

    • Dc says:

seeing that you have such inside sources can you or the bloke who say he works for nokia tell us when belle wil be released? please the wait is killing me!!! if you cant say just say soon for earlier then february or just say late for that being its comming february like nokia said!

  24. Arbegla says:

As much as I would love to try out a Nokia WP with a better camera than the N8, I still am very cautious about making a switch to WP. It just doesn’t offer what the N8 does in terms of my needs. I’m sure this stands true with a lot of Symbian users that have come to love the functionality that it offers at the price of a tad slower hardware and a bit of lag in certain tasks.

    • Oh Hei says:

“I’m sure this stands true with a lot of Symbian users that have come to love the functionality that it offers at the price of a tad slower hardware and a bit of lag in certain tasks.”

      I totally disagree.

  25. lovenokia says:

jesus nokia just show me the phone i am dieing a 12mp+ camera. My nokia n96 took better photos than my samsung focus that i have now. I cant wait for a nokia windows phone with a legit camera

    • gullygod says:

I hear you. My focus takes better pictures than my lumia 800. I wonder how they got the camera on the 800 sooooooooo wrong.

the pictures on the 800 arer terrible and i dont see Nokia addressing this.

    • Collins says:

It’s because of people like you that most phone cameras suck and aren’t likely to improve any time soon. Many people who want a good camera will run out and buy the phone with the highest megapixel value on the spec sheet. In almost all cases this behavior is simply a demonstration of the average consumers ignorance.

Camera sensors with high resolutions will have comparatively lower light sensitivity and color accuracy. The pictures we get from them aren’t any sharper and the pictures are just as discolored and noisy as the previous generations cameras with lower megapixel values.

We need to start demanding better picture quality and realize this hasn’t got much to do with megapixel values (not any more at least). Unfortunately, we probably won’t get this until uninformed consumers get access to easily interpreted numbers on the spec sheet (bigger is better) that relate more directly to color accuracy and light sensitivity. :-(
