More Nokia N8 Successor hints – Xenon, replaceable battery, polycarbonate, bigger screen…(+Lumia 900 same camera as 800)
In the last post, we discussed some of dsmobile’s insights into the Nokia N8 successor. You can see in that post that he’s a very reliable source so we won’t go into explaining why again. Just note he’s a very trustworthy source. You can also go to that post where we’ve linked back to previous N8 successor rumours.
Most interesting is that from that post, dsmobile has answered some questions from our readers giving more info again on the N8 successor. Let’s take a look.
- Camera phone will have NFC and Xenon and…
- Screen is bigger than N8 and CBD with Clock.
- Front design is really nice, white one looks really cool.
- That design in slim phone with basic camera would also work really nice.
- Battery is back to old school and you can change it your self with out tools. =)
So, NFC, Yay for Xenon and bigger AMOLED screen. I’m liking the sound that the front design is nice. dsmobile has very good taste in phones. I’m excited to see what this would look like. It seems to have a bump like the N8 since he says it would work with as slim phone and a ‘basic camera’ i.e. one that is flush with the back.
It should please Steve Litchfield, not just to see another Xenon but also to have a replaceable battery cover. Two things he’s the greatest proponents for, (other than Symbian).
Xenon with any of Nokia’s Zeiss cameras would be awesome. Look at what the N82 can achieve at 5MP. I’d gladly give up the 3MP extra in the N9/Lumia to have even the N82′s camera. With the specs of the phone it should be able to handle HD video too.
On how it looks
N8 successor is more similar to the N9 in terms of materials apparently. So polycarbonate again. As for design,
- “well not really design but materials.”
On the processor:
In reply to: what’s about processors?
same as 701/700/603 or a new chasis?
- new
Well hopefully that’s talking about new processors not new chasis. When asked specifically, “ST Ericsson? U8500 or U9500 DUAL-core soc?” dsmobile says he
- “can’t say”.
dsmobile has played with Symbian Carla.
- Carla is lovely girl but I still like Swipe UI even it has it’s faults specially if kids play with it.
- Beside Belle and Carla are sisters and pretty similar. Other has more expensive taste with details.
- Donna might come from different family.
- My self I am not really looking camera when buying a phone I am more for fashion phones like N9 or Vertu if I had money for it.
Donna might be very different. Carla seems to be higher end.
Not N8 successor related but also from dsmobile, the Nokia Lumia 900 is apparently sporting the same camera as the Nokia Lumia 800. I thought we were getting a better camera? That’s a disappointment as for a Nokia, I think it’s rather mediocre.
Lumia 900 has same camera as Lumia 800.
Category: N8 Successor, Nokia, Rumours

yeah another rumour to keep us entertained until tomorrows unveil of the nokia 900
you know a phone that exists
as for a n8 succesor nokia should bring it on wp7
thats the future of nokia
symbian is old news now
nobody cares about it and wont pay premium money for it except some hardcore symbian fans
and they get smaller in numbers day by day
but if it will be a symbian phone i cant wait to read the reviews from the big blogs like theverge or engadget
they will be epic lol
I will pay premium money for a phone that is (feature wise) equal or better than my Symbian N8. Atm Windows Phone isn’t. Shiny UIs are for mullet wearing sunny boys, features and compatibility are for nerds. It’s simple as that. Why should I get a 486DX2-66 if I’ve already got a P90?
F??? that WP whining. Nokia should give those that do not want WP a good alternative. Besides WP is not selling very well at the moment…
I’m already prearing for that N8 successor. Or at least the range of the next gen carla or donna phones. Would love to get a midrange dual core Nokia Donna phone in the future. That’s if Nokia would release the donna update.
how can a windows phone nokia be a n8 sucessor?
the n8 has
fm transmitter
usb massstorage
usb on the go
hdmi out
bluetooth file transfer
etc…
a sucessor has to be better than the version before, not lacking features!
Hmmm so N8 can’t even be successor of N93 as it
1) lacks optical zoom
2) InfraRed
Or N82 as it has a weaker xenon flash?
Also, how do you know Windows Phone will continue to lack all those above that you mention?
Would you not agree that WP also has some strengths Symbian even with Belle doesn’t have?
As far as camera successor goes, they have to sort out Windows Phone’s camera UI. It sucks balls. It’s easy as hell to take a photo and look at gallery but to change settings is annoying. Plus, I think it’s stupid limiting the viewfinder.
N8 wasn’t the successor for either the N93 or N82. The Camcorder phone ended with the N93i (Would buy one if Nokia produces one in that form-factor with Symbian\Harmattan – Not a fan of WP). Even the N82 didn’t have a direct successor, The N86 with a 8MP camera kind of succeeded it.
InfraRed Jay? Why InfraRed when you have bluetooth? InfraRed has huge dissadvantages like very short range and direct visual line conection or between the 30° cone. I was happy when IR dissapeared from mobile phones
About OS, I think WP7 is not bad, I like it… but as much of us think, isn’t a perfect OS, I like (right now) a lot more Symbian, but also I know Symbian is not perfect, but suits my needs better than WP7… Maybe Apollo make me change to WP. At least I’m sure I’ll be Nokia user even if Symbian and Swipe UI dissapear…
Anyway is Nokia who decide what will happen about their OS (Symbian, Harmattan, S40, “¿Meltemi?”, Smarterphone…)
poor WP fanboy, heavily outnumbered in this forum
Maybe outnumbered right now, but the tide is turning; albeit slowly…
As Symbian fans we can either accept decisions made, embrace change and look forward or sit on our chairs and rant at the advancing tide like King Cnut.
And let’s face it, some Symbian die-hards are a stubborn bunch of Cnuts…
I don’t know whether Symbian fans are shrinking or not.
But, even they are shrinking, I don’t think they move to WP, Android is more logical choice, because it has much more similarity to Symbian. WP is much more similar to iOS with its walled garden tech!
That is precisely my view as well, symbego..and I agree.
dont like the idea of a tooless user replaceable battery
ive grown to love how the N8/N9 has their battery encased although the plastic bottom on the N8 can break.. total design flaw imo (having aluminum squeeze plastic like that will undoubtedly lead to those flimsy pieces snapping)
same don’t I
I wont get it if it had a bigger screen with the same resolution. look at the E7, the screen looks like crap. high pixel density is a must.
That render reminded me a bit of that Panasonic Lumix phone for DoCoMo (Link: http://techcrunch.com/2011/09/29/android-phone-lumix-camera-panasonics-lumix-phone-101p-for-japan/). Got that link from a friend who posted it at Facebook.
Btw, the camera lens look exaggerated if you ask me, but funny nonetheless.
This is the most interesting future Nokia phone being talked about right now. I really, really hope it will run Symbian (Belle or newer). Most people’s opinions about Symbian are misconceptions or based on old versions whose problems does not exist in Belle. I recently tried a Nokia 700 with Symbian Belle in a local retail store and was very impressed by the OS, and I think many others will be too.
symbian is a dieing OS…. if Nokia cannot get all the camera to work in windows phone7 they should give the consumer the option to upgrade to windows phone 7. if they fail to do this then nokia will slide even further down the ladder….
No-one is investing in Symbian anymore…yes more and more apps are coming to the nokia store everyday,, but the big boys are staying away..
No Citrix receiver, No support for Good Technology, RIM also not supporting…. yes they will be supporting android and IOS and no slingbox…
But the big companies do see a potential in windows phone….
Yes I am fan of symbian…. but nokia marketed all wrong and also stupidly said that support would be ending…… BIG BIG FAIL….
“No-one is investing in Symbian anymore…yes more and more apps are coming to the nokia store everyday,, but the big boys are staying away..”
And yet, Gameloft (one of THE biggest boys!) are releasing new 3D games for Belle devices.
Os doesnt matter for me because both have advantages and disadvantages. Im still using the N8 as my main phone because of its camera and will upgrade only when theres better camera phone available. Apart from the basic phone functions like calling and texting, the camera is the utmost important thing for me. So wp and symbian are both fine as long theres a supreme camera.
Mmm… Nokia should bring two versions of this device, a Symbian powered and a WP one, because despite the how good is WP and how “BAD” Symbiab is tge expected volumes sales of Windows Phone can maintain a company of the size if Nokia (even worst the expected volume sales are from combining all the volume of all WP OEMs).. So for me, a Symbian variant please
Nova A9600. Put it in there.
Cortex A15 and PowerVR 6 would make many people cry in envy and it would last for so many years in Symbian, that the current, such a f:ng vain, 1-2 year phone exchanging pattern would finally relax.
I support Tak’s comment give us the U9500 Nova Thor which is for smarthphone OS’s like android, windows phone & symbian with everything that Tak said just give us the version with two core ARM A15.
U9500 has Cortex A9 processor and Mali 400 GPU. Very nice, and by looking at what N8 can do with 600mhz ARM11, this would rock, but its not something that would make even the haters gasp a second, before the shit storm continues. Cortex A9 and Mali 400 is a year or two old stuff, which would only make the Symbian look bad, and Elop would say: “what did I say, its a burning platform”.
I’m not sure if Cortex A15 and PowerVR 6 are even ready yet, or what they would do to battery, but it would beat PSP Vita in processing power. It would be hard to hate(if it lasted for day). If Symbian could make older Cortex A9 to last two or three days, I’d like that too.
I know Arm A15 is ready and Power VR 6 is also ready because there are rumors which are valid from more then 4 sources that new android phones from samsung galaxy s line will have arm a15 dual core or more and mali new gpu in the same time ther will be combination with power VR 6 or nvidia tegra 3. Still i would like nokia in their new line of highe end phones uses big.LITTLE processing configuration of arm a15 and arm a7 cpu’s.
when will this phone be available, any more specs on it? Is it symbian or windows
follow me @sirreflex just set up my twit account
Samsung already announced soc with Cortex A15 dual core and Power VR series 6 gpu . Exynos 5250.
DS is a trustworthy guy, he said the N9 looked awesome and it did.
Did he say how many megapixel camera will the successor have?
IF N8 successor is more similar to the N9 in terms of materials apparently do think if same swiping gesture? If n9 and n8 successor have same swiping gesture i will buy n8 successor than n9.
will n8 successor have swiping gesture like in n9?
at least a high end phone at MWC….unusual software….so tempting. it screams N8 successor.
