Qt on Windows Phone would allow Nokia developers to port their apps more easily and it would keep developers from moving to iOS or Android.

I can't currently develop for Windows Phone because the tools only run on Windows. Windows sucks and I don't use it on my desktop computers. If I was to pick up a new mobile platform hen it'd be something that ran on my Mac or linux laptop.

I think Qt is far from being a dead platform what with Symbian still outselling WP and Nokia is definitely up to something with Qt and Meltemi. I'll probably pick up Android development next with Qt if thats not to much of a chore.

I've written two books, umpteen manuals and I own a third of a magazine publishing company.

We don't use Word. In fact it's quite annoying when we do get articles submitted in Word format as we have to first strip out the formatting before giving it to the InDesign guys.

Text editors are just what you need and nothing more. I tend to use TextMate on my Mac because I know it inside out from programming. I've also had stints with WriteRoom which I quite like. I use Pages for most other document layout but tend to write in raw text.

Back when I was writing lots of technical documentation, we used Framemaker. Its a real pity that has been left to wither by Adobe.

Yeah well if that's your purpose for a text editor, it makes sense.

For composing actual documents, I can't see anything that's as compelling, as easy, as functional as Word. I tried pretty much everything on my mac before finally shutting up and getting word/office.

Nope. I never mentioned VBA. I was talking about how usable the software was, it's design and experience not something maybe 1% of people use and I'm probably being generous here.

I'm a programmer and I've never had call to use a macro in a word processor or spreadsheet in the last 30 years. It's also why I prefer my text editor, markdown and a document processor rather than overly complex buggy crap like Word.

I find expose/mission control and the different desktops equivalent to alt+tab on windows.

With the windows bar at the bottom, quick launch icons on my left, some pinned stuff to the bar along with what ever is opened, I find I can navigate in between those apps quicker than I ever could trying to use the variants on my mac.

But I also like the mac. It's good to use when I am on the go and don't bring a mouse. The trackpad gestures are really great.

Finder, Spotlight, expose, mission control, dashboard, spaces...

You seem to have missed a large portion of Mac desktop navigation features other than Finder and the Dock. I'd also rather take the Finder's column view and spring loaded folders over Windows Explorer.

I fail to see how anyone can say the desktop experience on Windows 7 even approaches equivalence with the Mac.

"A platform cannot flourish if it is hardware resource
bound. It needs headroom that enables people to
use the hardware and OS in new and incredible new
ways." - this is the reason Symbian^1 essentially failed as a foothold. No forward looking by the designer/engineer that specced the hardware

May I ask you, what do you use the USB OTG for mostly? I know its a useful feature per se, but not sure what _I_ would really use it for, so curious to hear what others use it for.
