| February 2, 2012 | 35 Replies

We received an email from Srikanth (Thanks!) who shared some screenshots of Skype on Symbian Belle. Not sure how you guys can get this but Rahul tipped in (cheers) of a thread at Nokia discussion forum where a Nokia staff said as an update for Belle devices, Skype might appear Q1 2012.

Thank you Srikanth and Rahul for the tips!

  1. Screenshots for Skype on Nokia Belle Get Leaked | February 2, 2012
  1. nathan.fake says:

    it’s already on store:

    http://store.ovi.com/content/20924

    v2.1.0.23

tested on C7 Belle, works fine =)

sadly no split screen kb :(

    • nathan.fake says:

also no video call, nor homescreen widget

    • Gerii says:

Because they just chose the easiest way to keep it compatible, and still needed >2 months for that. I wonder how bad their code base is.

      • Lloydo says:

Argh, makes me so angry!!! It is still looks as shit as ever. And NO VIDEO CALLING :(

It’s obviously possible (look at Skype on any other platform: Maemo, Ios, android). Either they are incompetent dev’s or just lazy ones. Or someone told them not to bother.

  2. Stoli89 says:

Works fine with Belle (111.030.0607) Delight (3.6). Still no video calling feature.

  3. Ronit says:

Srikanth lies. Its already in the store since yesterday

  4. can't be helped says:

symbian bella with swipe ui will be a hit! just replace the menu physical button with swipe, and add a multitasking view to the homescreen.

    • fghdfdfgh says:

Yeah, I also would like to have multitasking widget on home screen. Small list with icons of applications running in background would be great.

    • amoshydra says:

Come on.. they could have done so many improvements into the phone if they really want to do so.

  5. can't be helped says:

why micorsoft think symbian users do not need video calling? ios and android users need that?

    • SLAYER says:

      does WP have skype?

    • Just Visiting says:

@cant be helped…Please! Skype NEVER provided Symbian with video calling; voice works fine and is affordable -not sure why you would think that video calling would come to Skype for Symbian just because ownership changed. Besides, Microsoft is using it’s resources to bring Skype to WP – this is their primary focus at this point.

Besides, there are other video chat services for Symbian users if they choose to use that feature.

      • @ Just Visiting:
“Skype NEVER provided Symbian with video calling”
True say, although Skype video calling WAS possible through Fring, back when they still supported Skype (worked well on my N95-1). Such a shame they fell out!

    • Bloob says:

I just wish I could keep the damn app open in the background without it freezing my phone after a couple of days…

  6. Gunnar says:

    why is video calling missing?

    • Srikanth says:

      Atleast voice call is there!

      • Gunnar says:

thanks for reply, but please explain, my wife has the E7 and Skype does not have Video Call, at least that i know of, unless you can know something i don’t know, and if so please help me get it.

        • Srikanth says:

You have Skype from long time for E7. I just got Skype yesterday for my 701. Maybe we get skype with video call later.
Battery consumption is high on using skype though. With video call!!!?

  7. Blink says:

If Im using Skype on a Windows phone and the other person is using Android, is Google watching me? No privacy Google.

  8. jr says:

    thanks to Elop and MS

  9. rahul says:

Dude, I finally got a tip in for my two seconds of glory, and then discover that it was already released on Nokia Store .. but eh, nevermind, good news :)

  10. Chris P says:

Nokia Pure font, where is it??

  11. genXhippie says:

What the hell, still no video support. That confirms that symbian is still the bastard child, even with Belle soon arriving. A crying shame imo.

  12. Srikanth says:

Well thanks Jay for posting my screenshots.

MyNokiaBlog is truly my nokia blog.

  13. Srikanth says:

    My gravatar really sucks, yuck.
    Gravatar.

  14. Prasenjit Bist says:

may be its not true or god knows true!!

But guys just now heard from a friend Nokia Lumia device which one Iam not sure comes with NFC chip like Nokia C7 and will be activated later on latest by Q2/ Q3 2012 as Nokia working on NFC for windows. However similiar story came in the verge wrt interview with Marko who hinted abt NFC.

So, I dont know whether the guy cooked this gossip or he was being honest. Btw he is an ex symbian employee.
