Nokia Champagne Pics? Tablet? Looks more like the Nokia booklet 3G to me.
There’s a post going around of what has been dubbed as the Nokia Champagne. The image, posted by professeurthibault was tweeted by MS_nerd dubbed Two Turkeys – a reference to a Google Exec’s comment about Nokia and Microsoft.
A lot seem to think that due to the curved screen, it is a new device. It is a Nokia tablet. Right?
Actually that’s more like a Nokia Booklet 3G. Nokia’s first Microsoft Windows powered product. It has the N9′s iconic curves but that’s just the lid. Note on the side it seems to have a double bezel. That’s the hinge.
Look at the pics below, one of which from the very cool Michael Hell. I could be wrong and Nokia are taking cues once again from the exquisite (but underpowered) Booklet. I really would like some ASUS transformer style going on there with the premium build and design of Nokia.
Here’s a pic from slashgear. Just slim it down a bit and the design could still work.
So, the first Nokia product with that curvy style + bezel…was a Nokia Windows product from 2009 – which incidentally appeared at the same time as Nokia’s Maemo powered N900.

Cheers meh for the tip!

Okay, that final photo from slashgear, looks a lot like the “champagne” photo. Just obviously with a champagne tinted body and not silver.
Yup, it would be easy to change the colour of the booklet’s aluminium parts. Just put it under incandescent/warm lighting.
It would be amazing though, if this were like the Nokia 1 Concept we saw in MDN. I am dying for a Win8 tablet to come. My mate a MSFT reckons it’ll be coming in June. SO I am hoping Nokia Connections 2012 = Win 8 Tab
Simple cropping can make it look very similar

Anyone noticed the customary Nokia blue box underneath the product?
That’s the box the Booklet 3G comes in because that’s the booklet 3G.
That is the Booklet 3G
“So, the first Nokia product with that curvy style + bezel…was a Nokia Windows product from 2009″
and it was a flop, so let’s hope that the newer “Windows products” won’t end that way too
I’m not sure what Nokia was expecting from the Booklet. The design was magnificent. Incredible battery power. But they priced the thing at £800. What a crazy price! It should have started at £400 and then with time lowered to £250.
At £800 it needed to be more powerful. It’s not about the specs but the user experience and it was basically a glorified pretty 3G netbook. I wouldn’t care about the Atom processor if it was just as fast as competing products in the price range and category (it dubbed itself as a small laptop, NOT netbook. I guess I push my devices too much and netbooks would never cut it for me).
This was still back in Nokia’s self destructive days (lol when wasn’t it). Witness great things but make sure they die with some obscene fault in decision making. 2009 with the N97 and the deathly RAM/C/CPU/GPU combo. The Awesome N900 and Maemo that was to be doomed into MeeGo. The Booklet that was instantly priced so high no one could afford it.
Well, yes the start price was too high but doubt they could have started at 400 given the probably high desing costs and production method/materials. There is a reason why cheap laptops are not aluminium unibodies…
Yes. They put themselves in the worst position where it had to be expensive to pay for materials, but then how functional could it be since it was essentially a netbook.
I don’t know what would have been realistically feasible for 2009 (and whatever date it took for initial development). Some along the lines of Vaio Z or Macbook airs is where this should have gone. It needed some power behind it to make it justifiable.
It must be nokia’s windows 8 or Meego tablet.
MeeGo is no more. they had one and it is not coming. It will be Win8/Meltemi only ones currently what Nokia might end up using future.
Nokia could be big in small laptop’s and tablets if they go for it. They could really make killer design products and give it a branding similar to “lumia” line up.
they should end up a lot resources left for that new area of products as they cut off loose ends from the phone (smart-phones and not so smart ones.) manufacturing.
Actually they should just focus on “laptops” as in style like a Asus Transformer or some type of slide keyboard tablet.
A polycarbonate bodied 10″ W8 tablet with a design similar to the 800 and 900 would be quite nice, especially if the experience of moving between the two to say sync content, read emails or play games is seamless.
I tried a alpha/beta (?) W8 tablet couple of months ago and must say it has a lot of potential.. swiping with left thumb to scroll through apps and with the right one to access menu options felt pretty natural, and the boot up time was just amazing (hope they can keep it that way in final).
i’d buy a tablet thats styled along the lumina 800/900 designs
Let’s not forget Nokia once had a computer division, quite successful I might add, which they later sold to ICL which formed part of what’s now called Fujitsu Siemens. The reference to two turkeys was probably just meant remind us of the Booklet 3G, meaning their ‘first’ partnership did make quality products…
Or, that it was indeed a bit of turkey.. delicious but could not fly..
Speaking of Google, under law in many countries, an Android phone or tablet purchased before the change of privacy policy the purchaser should be able to file suit against Google for 3x the purchase price or the top level of small claims court. Since Google changed policy after point of purchase, they have violated the mutual agreement and with no opt out did so violating contract.
That is funny. Link to an article? Would like to read it
Whatever it is, I really hope Nokia launches an amazing tablet for Windows 8 this Fall!
FUCK THAT NOISE…..wait for the Ubuntu Tablet…..soooo much better the Windows8 in EVERY aspect possible except gaming and some drivers….i’m waiting for that one i’m not supporting MSFT nor Windows ANYMORE ….they can lick balls for all i care
Was your outburst absolutely necessary?
I hope your comment gets deleted… if you dont like Microsoft not Windows then DONT USE IT.
but with those words full of immaturity, shows you are like 12 or something?
have you at least tried windows 8? because its an amazing OS, and to me, more powerful than ubuntu.
but again, if you don’t like it, then don’t read about it. most and almost all laptops come with Windows pre-installed, so go and cry all you want, it wont change anytime soon.
