Gallery: Nokia N8 with Official Nokia Belle
Here’s a bunch of photos I’ve taken of the Nokia N8 with Nokia Belle. If there’s any particular portion anyone’s missed out I can add it later.
BTW, I can’t check the version number when doing *#0000#. N8 just freezes :s. Currently having problem with the gallery stuck on refreshing media. What does the BBC iPlayer and tap and tell do? Clicking on them doesn’t seem to do anything. (Apologies for the repeat images in gallery)
Nice little widget for the music player
Portrait QWERTY by default. Getting better but still annoying to use IMO.
Picking up Nokia account at the start. If you don’t have an internet connection you’ll have to do this at some later time. I’m not sure how, but this N8 decided to turn itself off thereby meeting this screen again at start up.
Drop down menu
New camera UI
Lock screen
Becomes transparent when you click

why can’t they put the SWIPE thingey on Symbian devices?
Do you mean swype? I already have it on my N8 running on Anna. Got it free from the nokia store, and also on beta labs. Works really well imo. Makes keyboard really usable.
swipe as in the n9 not swype
Swype is available for Nokia devices since Symbian S60 5th edition, I don’t know what you’re talking about.
maybe he mean N9′s swipe?
Great pictures. Thanks! I kind off miss my green N8.
seems to be the same as the Belle i’ve had for the past 4 months; updating it now though, surprisingly i can update from my CFW belle to the offiical throught the suite, no flashing needed
That is really great news. Will try it tonight.
Don’t forget that you can swipe through your music now instead of clicking the “next song” button
Will remember to do that
Already Downloaded for my E7.. will be trying tonight!!
lovely.
I have been using it for 3 Months, but i’ll install it anyway it’s official, and I think it would be much smoother and faster ..:)
is it as ram hungry as leaked belle on the N8? Also where does it look for music? I tried to locate a music library location and couldn’t work it out. Usually have music on the memory card but it only found music in the phone mass storage. Good to see this released. Will flash tonight

Many thanks to Jay for NOT showing the image of that horrid digital clock
Hi Jay
I have downloaded mine this morning. A lot of good stuff but having seen all the video’s over the last few months I seem to be missing stuff.
I have no re-sizable clock widgets just the one size analogue and digital ones.
My notes section – when I open a note it takes me straight to the white screen edit section instead of just viewing the note on the black screen main section.
Do you have these issues? I have tried re-installing but same outcome.
I will probably do a hard reset before upgrading to Belle, to prevent any possible issues with current state of my OS.
I just have to say this.
Symbian (or just Nokia) Belle is amazing on my N8. I never thought the N8′s hardware was capable of such a smooth transitions.
Even though I like WP7 a lot, I don’t want this OS to die!!!
Surprisingly, Belle was available for my N8 too.
In short, it is a big improvement over Anna and people that use their Symbian device as their primary device will be happy with it.
However, after using WP for wel over 3 months now, I can say that Symbian is nowhere near as fluid as WP is. Granted, I haven’t been able to do a factory reset yet to test clean performance due to a stupid security code I apparantly don’t know or forgot.
There is still lag in the apps folder, touch responsiveness still isn’t as fluid as it should be. All in all it has improved but it isn’t a joy to use like WP is. (By joy, meaning ease of use and general speedyness)
I was amazed at the stellar camera of the N8 again, compared to the Lumia 800. And that is what my N8 will be from now on. A camera that is very pocketable and can be used for a few things more other than picture taking.
The one thing I do stand by is this; Nokia made the right decision to go with Windows Phone. Functionality may be severly lacking and it might not be an OS they have full control over. But it the OS you can like to use, by that I don’t mean UI design. But again, the sheer fluidity and responsiveness of it all is unrivaled. Maybe even unrivaled by iOS.
Please, understand that some people need SMARTphone, not a toy.
Lumia – fluid toy
N8 – smartphone
Do you understand the difference?
It all depends on what criteria someone uses to define what a smartphone is. Even ‘Symbian evangelist’ Steve Litchfield found it hard to define what a smartphone is.
Although he apparantly feels that a smartphone is a device that can replace a multitude of others (PDA, organizer, camera, music player, etc) there are enough people that just define a smartphone by 2 things basically; the ability to browse the internet and send/receive email.
That last definition is too shallow, yet saying that only Symbian is a smartphone platform is narrow minded as well.
Yes, Windows Phone is limited with what it can do. I miss BT file transfer, HDMI out and simple drag and drop file transfer. But do those things make a phone a smartphone?
What defines a smartphone for me is a device that can replace others like Steve L. also says. Yet it also needs to be an extension to my life. It needs to reduce the time I need to do things rather than add time to what I want to do.
Unfortunatly I haven’t had the best experience with Symbian’s recent incarnations in that sense. (Loved S60v3 though) S60v5 and even S3 up to Anna just made things more cumbersome to do. Especially when first coming into contact with iOS and even Android it became clear to me that Symbian does draw the short straw when compared on the basis of fluidity and reliabilty (vs. iOS not Android)
The downside is though that WP, iOS and Android are nowhere near as frugal with the battery as Symbian. Connectivity is limited with iOS and WP and all other HW out there apart from Nokia just sucks at signal strength and call quality, although the competition is catching up.
Regarding Lumia not being a smartphone and people NEEDING (really? Food and water are so overrated I guess) why do you NEED a smartphone? can do?
If anything in Battery Saver Mode Windows Phone is more frugal with the battery than Symbian. Only E-series phones ever had good battery life with Symbian, everything else was crap if you used it for anything more than you’d use an S40 phone.
Could very well be true, haven’t tried that exstensively since it cripples the phone. It cancels active push services and basically makes them manually operated. So that’s not really a viable option.
WP in general might be good, but I only have long term experience with the Lumia 800 and frankly, the battery in that isn’t what I expected from it.
yes contains the nfc
Supports property nfc

What I would like to know is the battery life any good?? Cause I heard from Symbian Anna the battery life isn’t good. Is it improved?
You’d have to ask yourself how much of that is due to the phone being older and the battery just not holding as much of a charge anymore.
fuck u nokia my n8 product code 0599255 doesnt show any result madarchodon.,..

Oh nvm, got it already.
Anyone know if they’re going to release the new widgets at some point? Or if they’ve released an API to create widgets?
