My Dream Nokia #44: Nokia Lumia Espresso Windows 8 Concept Tablet – with Play 360 :P
My Dream Nokia #43 Lumia Coffee tab was a surprising hit (surprising in a way that I didn’t expect the likes of CNet and co to pick it up)
‘Tris clark’ returns again with another stunning design, addressing the constructive criticisms of his last work.
It is called, the Lumia Espresso.
Erm? YUM!!!! I want this YESTERDAY!
Projection keyboard is interesting
Gives you a chance to maintain all the screen real-estate but not have to have extra size for the keyboard. There might be some limitations obviously regarding where it can be used (just on a table perhaps) but I guess that’s when you”d be wanting to do more longer typing? There’s no image of the back so we don’t know what that looks like but it does have 12mp.
NFC is very much welcome – makes great use of cool accessories such as Nokia’s simple pairing Play 360 (that sound fantastic) though the Espresso tablet does have its own set of ‘quad’ speakers. Also pretty neat is wireless charging. You know Ahtisaari and crew have been after removing more moving parts/ports etc, in favour of more streamline designs – wireless charging was one of the conclusions of the Guardian newspaper.
Addressing the constructive criticisms of my original Lumia “coffee” tablet, ive had another crack at coming up with my dream Nokia (what better way to spend my day off!)
The new tab is a touch sleeker with a quad core cpu, more ram and a proper 16:9 screen along with some other bells & whistles like the projected keyboard and quad speakers.Lumia “Espresso”
- 1.2GHz quad core cpu
- 2Gb system ram
- 10.1″ clearblack AMOLED screen (1280×800)
- 32/64/128Gb storage
- 12Mp camera (2Mp front facing camera)
- wifi/3g connectivity
- quad speakers
- nfc
- wireless charging
- MagicKey, projected keyboard
comes bundled with the Nokia play360 speaker!
‘If’ it was in a video :p Ah, if only it was real and this was actually from Nokia labs.
About “My Dream Nokia”
I’m sure you’ve dreamt up your PERFECT Nokia device/UI. What it would look like, what it would feel like, what features it would have. Why don’t you share it with the world? Or at least with other Nokia fans
.
It could be your own photoshopped or rendered work (seriously, you don’t need mega skills in either, basic paint job is often enough to convey a concept) of your dream product.
SEND this in similarly to tips@mynokiablog.com with the title “My Dream Nokia” and perhaps the model number (and a little description, maybe a few specs in the message area? Though this bit not necessary).
Who knows, maybe an image might flutter over to Nokia and through whatever route end up being real.

WOW!!!! Screw the N8 successor I want this!
Omg… give me!
I personally can’t wait for the time when Nokia announces a tablet. Given the current tablet craze, it should be soon enough.
Ditch the 12Mpix rear camera, wireless charging and keyboard projector. These range from useless to nonsense and add unnecessary cost.
Resolution is already outdated. This would have to be 1920×1080 to be competitive as a premium 2012 device. ASUS already announced an HD resolution tablet coming in the next few months and Apple is about to go even higher than that with its latest iPad.
Ditch the AMOLED screen. I love AMOLED as much as anyone. In fact, it’s a prerequisite for me when buying a mobile phone, but at this size it would be prohibitively expensive. A tablet with a 10″ AMOLED would definitely cost $1000+, probably ++. Currently, AMOLED technology is like diamonds: the price doesn’t scale linearly with size, it scales geometrically.
If you want to call it a dream device, stuff anything you like in it. If you want to call it a concept, it has to be realistic.
It was meant to be a dream device, hence the”out there” specs. The original coffee tab had a more acheivable spec, being just an upscaled lumia 800 (same as the ipad was just an upscaled iphone).
With the previous concept though most of the commenters wanted much higher specs, so thats where this came from, a money no object, dream nokia device.
In that case, why skimp on the resolution?
Just STFU and take my money!
I have 3 tablets, out of doing development for several platforms, and I still cant make much use out of them…Apart from the infotainment system on plains, they mostly are inconvenient.. Granted I do have a ultrabook and an N9 soo I don’t really need them, and wen I’m at the sofa I leave the gadgets behind (except my prrrrrecius
)
Nokia, Please look at this.
Now you have looked, make it.
Once you make it, release it, don’t tease or announce it 6 months later with a delayed launch.
Once released, take my money, along with millions of others.
Release more like this, crush iPad dominance
too much screen glare
Good point, but actually a tablet with CBD would be bloody awesome. I really like how the one on the Lumia 710 works for sunlight, so a 1920×1200 Super-IPS screen like the Asus TF700T but with CBD, would be the best thing ever.
Great stuff! Make it 8″/9″, 1366 x 768 LCD CBD panel, New genaration Qualcomm Krait SoC and a new and improved optimized Win8 and I’ll buy it. As long as the battery is any good, not something like the Lumia 800
I’d rather 7″, the PlayBook did show what the ideal size is. WXGA at that size would be pretty awesome.
Looks gorgeous. Fingers crossed that Nokia is smart and releases something that’s 90% like this. Bonus if it has docking capability to behave like an Asus Transformer.
you killing me guys. That’s really nice. I will sell my Ipad to get this one.
This and the Nokia lightbulbs thats transmit data over electric lines. Everyone notice Google stealing Nokia glasses idea. I don’t think Nokia should make future product idea films anymore.
Nice. But nothing mind bending.
Eventually interesting if it was without that MetroUI bullsh.
Ultrabooks are cooler. They have a keyboard. And they have CPU power. And they are workstations, not toys.
There will be a time when people start to realise that they don’t need a tablet.
Nokia is waiting for that moment. No need to spend money on a device without a future.
Nokia, I hope to God you’re checking this concept out. If there’s one tablet that could make the iPad sweat, it’s a Nokia tablet. Take it from here, improve it. Make it into something much more.
I will be soon looking for a new tablet to buy. i have the playbook which is a nice tablet. can get emails done with the new OS 2.0 but it lacks some basics which they seem like they cant get to save their lives (skype for example). i tend to travel a bit for work so skype is a must for me to see the children and wife. Also, i use skype to speak with other family members abroad and friends.
after releasing the p;laybook by 10months, it is still lacking the arabic package which makes the tablet for me not useful as i visit some websites where i need to type in arabic besides not being able to read from all websites due to lack of arabic package.
so im a bit frustrated really.
i will go for a new tablet and i think it will be one of 2:
-either the new ipad as their app selection is just simply unmatched. i had the chance to browse through their itunes library and the selection is just WOW!. the tablet has more than 140k apps available and it has some great apps for productivity and business which you cant get on any other platform including the bloody cheap looking Androids. the rumor is Apple is working on an 8 inch tab and thats something i would be very much interested in as it means it will be more portable than the 10 inch but the 10 inch ofcourse has its own advantages if you want to use it for education for kids etc..
-my other option for a tablet will be is the Nokia tablet which im sure will be released using the WP (i wish it were the meego but oh well). the advantage of the WP is ofcourse bringing the MS office to it although the rumor is it will appear first on the new ipad! besides that the device will have the stuff nokia can produce and are good at such as GPS/mapping etc…
those 2 i will be watching out for shortly…i dont believe i will ever go for android as it is cheap regardless of how many cores they put in their devices or the number of megapixels…if you want apps, apple is the king of apps.
WANT it soooooo bad !!
hurry up nokia, my money’s burning a hole in my pocket.
ah…when i see the explorer tile i almost faint..
if you bring the old netscape, it will probably be better than todays explorer..
the first thing i would do on the pictured tablet is replace the ‘e’ with a firefox icon and make it the default browser..
Netscape wasn’t good since 4. Netscape 3 was better than IE3, but the reason IE dominated the market is 4 was just way better than Netscape 4, 5 came out quickly and just took things further and Netscape scrambled so badly that they had to just skip 5 and release 6, which still wasn’t that good.
but the apps are the most important factor..
kudos to apple, although i dislike them for many reasons, they have perfected this and have optimized their income as a result.
they have one size tab and one size ihpone. very simple for programmers i guess although i dont know much if any about programming.
when you have the likes o fandroids/blackberrys with various sizes of phones and various OS’, it becomes cumbersome for programers to use one unified platform.
thats the problem with the OEM model such as Android/WP as opposed to Apple which has its own eco system and controls things nicely.
i would like to see an 8 inch tab but i have a feeling they will target a 10 inch to compete against ipad. i just hope if they release it, they release it with tons of proper apps.
Priceless work of art.
Make it HD.
Give it edgeless display.
Simplicity is the perfect idea, somehow this is better than the perfect idea!
If this tablet was true, I would order 3 devices at once…love the concept and the specs!
im off 2 the bank………
First, very powerful rendering.
Second,it seen like in short time, nokia wont let device go quad core. (not yet?)
That 2G ram also.
Third, the speaker.
I didt seen the render picture got shown position of speaker? (buildin quad speaker)
If it same like N8 at the back, put at the table or something else then no sound. LoL (up your hand to agree)
A very good concept overall but a more creative name instead of “espresso” or “coffee” couldn’t hurt.
They need to cater to a wider market to make it the
the ultimate tablet PC not just a useful addition for
dull business goers.
LOOKS STUNNING, but 1.2 ghz quad-core processor is totaly wrong, it should be dual-core 1.5 ghz intel atom processor
hey can you plz tell me in which software you design these things… thank you
I use maya and photoshop
