Nokia in top 20 of Most Exciting Youth Brands of India (Spoiler: Number 1)

| February 22, 2012 | 21 Replies

According to the Economic Times, Times of India, Nokia is in the top 20 of the most Exciting Youth Brands in India. Nokia is very popular in India, but their iron grasp has been weakening. At Nokia World Blanca Jutti said that Nokia’s new focus would be on the Youth, with devices like the Asha (and Nokia’s overall image just being that bit more modern and in touch with ‘the kids’).

What excites the youth in India is totally different, and the Top 5 brands in our survey are living proof. Nokia bags the first place and the next four show the total dominance of the soft drink majors with Coca Cola, 7 Up, Thums Up and Mirinda.

Nokia apparently makes up in excitement what it has (unfortunately) lost on trust – with campaigns running making it seem as an ‘ally’ or ‘best friend’. Well, whilst that’s all good and all, Nokia really needs to address that the Indian market is extremely versatile. Low ends must be catered for but also to be good value for money. The same can be said for the high end where it seems features and desirability come top priority.  They know what great products are or products that are highly lusted. They cannot and will not be enticed simply by nostalgia (as there possibly is not much given that they are the youth).

Brands must evolve and adapt to ever changing markets, in products and in image. Nokia hasn’t been the best, sadly even in its strongest markets (like not keeping up with the dual sim or super smartphones), allowing competition to nudge their way quite easily. Listen to what’s important to these young consumers and capitalise on their interests.

I am an Indian , and I love Nokia. It addresses all my needs.

the same in the USA and EU should be nice too…

Most of my friends have iPhones and I have an N9 and an N8. Many of my friends were lifelong Nokia users and jumped to iPhones after the burning platform memo plan of action. It was like a slap in the face of Nokia’s loyal fans in Asia.

Why didn’t they take a new CEO from China or India? The world no longer revolves around America.

Jay, thanks for posting!! That was real quick!

I must say, the new Lumia campaigns have really caught the attention here in India of varying demographies, which is good for Nokia and us Nokia fans.
Just yesterday two colleagues of mine bought a 710 n 800 respectively over iPhone n Note!! Good going with new awareness for Nokia!

    • arts says:

Nice. How is Samsung doing there btw?

      • pradeep says:

Sadly, very good indeed. But rightly so, as Samsung currently has 2 best offerings @ the sharp end of the spectrum. Every new prospective poweruser can not ignore the SII and mighty Note (hell, even i find Note to be a compelling device!!)
However, if a prospective customer once tries a Lumia, they aren’t able to get away from the buttery smooth interface (which was evident from the recent purchases of my colleagues)
Considering that an average user ranks the phone 1st n foremost by its user interaction, I must say switch to WP might prove a great strength in Nokia’s recovery from tarnished image of N97 / S^3 days!

      • manu says:

extremely well they are now no.1 smartphone seller in india.they are advertising everywhere.

  5. Jerry says:

    I thought Indians are Samsung/Android?

  6. Muneeb says:

Nokia always has ruled the Indian market and nobody is near to them. But I have a strong feeling if Nokia does not create cheaper smartphones or touch screen phones like Nokia 5230/5233, they will lose their share which Samsung is eager to swallow.
Well I’m a nokiafanboy and just upgraded to Nokia L710 from my N5800 XM. But I missed the freedom Symbian provides which wp7.5 doesn’t. Hope they add Bluetooth File Sharing.

    • manu says:

exactly they need to bring in a proper device to compete with likes of galaxy y optimus net etc.not crap device like 5233.but symbian belle based device.

    • migo says:

That’s what the Lumia 610 should be, and in the mean time the Asha 303 is already a smartphone in a lot of ways.

  7. vidyutronx says:

INDIAN MARKET IS ONE OF THE VERY FEW REMAINING MAJOR MARKET STRONGHOLDS FOR THE NOKIA AND EVEN THAT IS SLIPPING VERY FAST.THE PROBLEM IS THE EVEN THE UPCOMING NOKIA’S PLATFORM IS NOT ENOUGH IN LONG RUN TO KEEP THE EXISTING SYMBIAN USER(AND THEIR NO. IS VERY HIGH STILL!)THEY WILL SIMPLY MOVE ON TO MORE BETTER OPTIONS OF ANDROID RATHER THAN CLOSED SYSTEM OF WINDOWS.
INDIAN SMARTPHONE MARKET IS STILL VERY MUCH ABOUT PRICE AND OPEN APPROACH WITH FLEXIBLE OPTIONS!!.

HOPE FOR THE BEST!!.”NOKIA STANDS APART FROM THE CROWD, STILL INTEGRATES WITH THEM MUCH BETTER THAN THE REST “.

  8. Mushfiq says:

India was always Nokia Symbian now a tad bit moving to android. But fans still holdin belle n giving chance to Lumia. If lumia gets few imp symbian features tats it. Nokia ll be on track.
