We’re Going to Barcelona! (What to Expect at MWC This Year)

| February 22, 2012 | 85 Replies

That’s right! Didn’t want to say anything until it was 100% sure, but MyNokiaBlog will be at MWC 2012 Barcelona LIVE to cover whatever amazing goodies Nokia has to give show off.

If all things go as planned, hopefully I’ll be on the conference floor getting some hands on pictures, footage, details and much much more while Jay (who couldn’t make it due to university commitments –  real shame) will be updating the blog with the device press releases, specs and other things (as it takes a while to upload the hands-on footage and video; also we’re not sure how dependable the WiFi will be at the exhibition hall).

Just to give you an overview of what to expect Nokia related:

This years MWC is the first time Nokia attends since 2009, but all evidence points that they plan to make up for lost time. Nokia have booked 2,300 Sq. feet of floor space inside the hall and have 3 separate booths (and one more for developers day)- Nokia will have booths number 7I10, 7H40 & 7H30 which as you can see from the image is a LOT of space.

As for Nokia’s agenda at the conference they actually have several different talks spread over 4 days (Feb 27th- March 1st) the first day is Nokia’s Developer conference (I assume this is to draw developers to develop for the Asha and Lumia range), day two covers Advertising and Social Media marketing (which should be interesting considering Nokia’s new take on advertising- with the ‘Amazing Everyday’ campaigns; yesterdays ‘Pure View Teaser’ and all the Lumia 800 & 710 ads ). Where things get really interesting is day 3 (Feb 29th) which is the Nokia Official Keynote starring none other than Stephen Elop (this is probably where any new Nokia devices will be announced); on the 4th and final day (march 1st) covers Monetizing on mobile markets.

Feb 27th:  Nokia Developer Day

Feb 28th:  Mobile Advertising: Context is King – Advertising & Marketing with Mobile Social Media

Feb 29th: Keynote 5: Mobile OS & Applications (Stephen Elop)

March 1st: Mobile Money: Emerging Markets – Where are the Opportunities for Mobile Money?

you can find the full Agenda here: http://www.nokia.com/global/about-nokia/mwc/agenda/agenda/  ;however for some reason clicking ‘More Information’ gives me a 404 -page not found error?

Just to refresh what devices/ features to expect at MWC this year:

Of all the things to come; as anyone else I’m most excited about the N8 successor/PureView thing which inspired this tweet:

The fact that my N8 will be obsolete in a couple of days doesn’t bother me at all; in fact it excites me! #MWC

Honestly I can’t express how lucky I feel to be going to this probably once in a life time event! Anyone else going to be there?

Dude no offense but how hard can it be to jot down one post that doesn’t contain a spelling/grammatical error. This blog is quite popular now. At least proof read the blog posts before pressing the ‘publish’ button.

    • Jay Montano says:

Possibly just in a Rush, Ali was in Uni all day and I asked him to mention something about MWC if he could. Anyway, sorted some of it. :)

Have fun in Barcelona Ali :D Safe trip :)
We’ll get the details of press releases and things as discussed whilst you get to the nitty gritty and play with the awesome new devices :D .

      • Adnan says:

sometimes it gets a little annoying. It was fine when mynokiablog was in its infancy. But now it has matured into possibly the most read Nokia Blog on internet. It’s the prime source for all Nokia related news for many so a little professionalism would go a long way towards improving the quality of the site. Cheers

        • Jay Montano says:

Yup, I understand that there are certain responsibilities now. I do maintain a ‘disclaimer’ in the top title that this is a RANDOM INFORMAL Nokia blog.

Although I want quality work, I do want folks to be aware that this is just an informal blog so as not to expect too much regarding the usual restrictions and expectations of professional blogs.

If this was my job and I was doing it full time, I would obviously devote more into proofing all posts perhaps, but as is the case, pretty much we’re all working/students just fitting this in as a hobby.

          • Adnan says:

yeah maybe you’re right. But then you see engadget and CNET and all these sites linking mynokiablog as the source for nokia related news. When a reader clicks on such a source he/she expects to see something that’s at least well written. Similarly you guys have started covering Nokia events, reviewing devices and apps and everything. I doubt it can be a ‘Random’ blog anymore. Maybe it’s time the site got a more refined look, the articles got better and all. Just my opinion.
Btw I understand you all are students and blogging is more like a hobby for you. I enjoy coming here multiples a day and will continue to do so.

        • Kaizer Allen says:

Actually, the “informal” take on reporting all things Nokia is what makes me come back to this again and again. I feel that the conversations are genuine, no BS, and at the same time, I’d say I feel home. It’s like you have a circle of Web friends all interested about the same stuff as you do, and that’s Nokia. Whatever the errors are, they’re actually just okay! I hope Jay & Co. won’t turn this into a really professional kinda thing. A little is alright, but not too much.

    • Aliqudsi says:

Sorry mate, as Jay said I was sort of in a hurry (got to get all my work done before I leave; and also I was feeling a bit lazy :P )

Thanks Jay, I’ll send you a tweet from whichever device ends up being the coolest :P

    • deep space bar says:

buddy you don’t understand…i am one of the admins of the Nokia N8 FB page on FB 200k+ people almost at 300k…it’s HARD buddy constantly researching, reading, answering peoples question…making sure the info is right for the public since thousands of people come to you for they source of info…trust me you have no idea what jay and the crew go though everyday

      • NoniKhanna says:

wait a minute….. you are orlando???

      • DM says:

Deep space bar, I know you are admin of that page and here is my response to your…life:

        1) You are so biased it’s like your can’t see anything past your N8, get some perspective man because you look like a idiot when your rage against WP7.

        2) Just because you made a page called ‘Nokia N8′ does not mean your a big blogger or have any say in what goes on. You simply made a page the same name as a phone and waited for people to like it thinking it was something else, something to do with Nokia themselves (notice how most of the people who have liked your page can’t really speak English, plus I don’t think reading your updates would make the speak/ write any better)

        3) “tust me you have no idea what jay and the crew go though everyday” Oh, because you work so hard posting links all day you know how it feels to run a blog? Your pathetic.

        4) Everything you say is total shit.

        5) You blocked me on facebook because I simply said you was wrong about WP7 and it got more likes than your status itself.

        • deep space bar says:

you where being a dick to me and the other admins so i blocked you…you do know that right?

          • DM says:

A dick? Right here are all the posts YOU made that I commented in, lets see what others think shall we? The game for other posters is to rate out of ten each post for how unbiased Orlando is. Let’s begin :)

1)Money well wasted -_-…. this is like making a mad friend and letting him pay you to make him look good
this money would have gone to Symbian and Meego and Hardware Development
            -Orlando

2)‎@Bharat…..you have to understand this which most don’t even bother to think about. No one wants to be confined to their OSs…..No one wants a walled Garden which MSFT is making cause they think since apple has done it so can we….and it’s not gonna work…why do you think so much people love Android,Maemo5,Meego and Symbian…..cause they are not confined like iOS and Wp7…people want to do whatever they can to their own phones…..and Wp7 does same with windows and OSx it’s all walled
so they tell you want you can and cannot do with what you bought from them which is very annoying
            -Orlando

3)cause microsoft has next to nothing with good services -Orlando (lol I loved this one)

I can’t be bothered for any more posts :L

        • Nrde says:

Hey kids, take this to the sandbox!

        • NoniKhanna says:

          1) first of all it’s a Nokia N8 facebook page. Screw Windows phone.

          2) It’s a page not a blog. And by when he says it is a lot of work. he means that he has to get info from multiple sources and post correct information.

3)They do answer questions when people ask them.

          4) I could say you are biased about him being a bad Admin, just cuz you got banned/blocked.

          5) am i missing anything else?

        • JK says:

I got so tired of the obnoxious rants from Orlando that I ended up removing myself from the Nokia N8 facebok page. So glad I did.. Talking about walled garden… Seems like Orlando is too walled in the symbian world.. Hard work or not.. Things change.. Either accept the changes or stop crying like a 2 year old…

        • Bharat Justa says:

I left the page because of that… They always posted sh** about Nokia Windows Phone and Windows Phone. But it was fun! Just like the old days when there were Symbian and Android wars in forums.

  6. Stefan says:

There’s a Nokia press conference scheduled for Monday, certainly they will introduce new products there …

  7. b21 says:

No Asha 305 as other sites state?

  8. Oiagni says:

I think people shouldn’t get their hopes up for an N8 successor. Nokia never ever said there would be one for certain, they never said if there is one it would be at MWC, they never said that video has anything to do with a symbian device, they never said that if there is a new N8 it would come out in the West (and why would it anyway, it would just compete with their own WP business).

Just don’t set yourself up for disappointment, I don’t want to see a few hundred crazy angry symbian fanboys because they didn’t introduce a new symbian device.

  9. poiman says:

I just hope PureView is a WPTango!

  10. Dallas says:

The debate over which OS will be irrelevant if Nokia introduce this Pure view range of devices as Camera first and a bonus smartphone functionality. Now they do not compete with iOS nor Android but rather with Canon and Nikon which we could confidently say that no match because those devices does not have smartphone functionality. I like this kind of scenario. Raise the Carl Zeiss flag and go for the home run!!!!

  11. jiipee says:

Hope to see and hear some strong news related to Qt.

    • zlutor says:

yes, that would be more than welcome. QT&WP7 – killer combo.

On the other hand it could mean more apps for my beloved N9 as well… :-)

  12. yemko says:

No leaked image of n8 successor back view….
I guess Nokia wanna make it a huge WOW!!! @MWC, pureview is gonna catch most attention that day.

I suspect pureview is gonna be the most best thing that as every happened on earth… Hand crossed till that day

  13. yemko says:

pureview gonna be another *trying harder* cam tech order manufacture will play to catch upto it for the next 3 years just like n8 ruled for 2 years…..
Ready for a big bow XPERIA S

  14. stylinred says:

ooo exciting and nokia connects is footing it? awesome!

side note is Harangue going? side note havent seen him post in ages

  15. mprince says:

So far, it seems like all the leaked phones are geared towards Europe/Emerging Markets…I thought MWC was supposed to be where Nokia execute their “Rolling Thunder” back into the States? (ie – some high-end devices to compete w/ iPhone and Android?)

I’m hoping that they will show just more than a Global 900 but something even higher-end than that for North America…like having the N8 Successor as a WP!

    • Zipa says:

Well, they would do those announcements stateside, wouldn’t they? And since the previously announced flagship for the US isn’t even available yet, it would not be very smart to rain on that parade.

    • Aliqudsi says:

Rolling Thunder was CES (for the US) MWC is worldwide for current and upcoming products.

    • outdated os says:

@mprince, you already have a lot of US-based nokia events. Heck, even their strategy was restructured to please Americans.
      What more do you want?

      • mprince says:

I’m Canadian actually and we definitely get less love than those south of us and in Europe…so i’m hoping Nokia would come out w/ smth so big that Canada can’t resist it from bringing it up here

        • deep space bar says:

yea they didn’t even bring Belle to Canada and then pushed WP7 -_____-’ not impressed at all…i thought it was a global Update and they didn’t even give updates to a full continent……that’s wrong

          • Jay Montano says:

I thought that was the carrier’s fault?

            • deep space bar says:

that as well but the Carriers shouldn’t even have a say what should good on the phones the manufactures sell it’s not their phone but they are just selling it throught the carriers nothing else

    • dss says:

Do you expect operator backed 808 in the US ? Never going to happen… We will be lucky if Amazon sells it here contract free. I wonder if they will actually produce 808s with a US product code…

It depends on how much they want to “shield” the 900, but Plemix and NewEgg should get it for sure.

  16. manu says:

f**king american they hate nokia,i read somewhere many has misconception of it as some chinese brand.if you goto yahoo answers and all you will know stupid american commenting badly about a nokia device they have never touched cough N9,701,N8

      • manu says:

then why nokia is quiet unpopular in u.s?
If you goto yahoo answers you will know if anyone from u.s sees nokia name they will say nokia is for cavemen and buy iphone.i have asked many times about why americans hate nokia and its attracted a lot of nasty answers and hate speech against nokia.

  17. Bharat Justa says:

How is GSMArena related to MWC?

    • manu says:

the nokia pure view news had made more hits and comments than news about quadcore device at gsmarena so that show how much hype is there about it.

  18. Ruben says:

You lucky bastard! Give us all the news you can about all, but make it special when it comes to the Pure view and N8 successor!

    Have fun Jay!

  19. Ruben says:
