Weekend Watch: Discover something new in the Nokia Store (demoed with Nokia 600? :S)

| February 25, 2012 | 17 Replies

Here’s another neat promo for the Nokia Store. I find ‘intuitive’ discovery to be the funniest claim as I think that’s one of my biggest gripes with Nokia Store – it doesn’t show off its best apps properly.

Again it reiterates the point of over 13 million daily downloads. The promo otherwise is very well made, I like the graphics work done. I like how the Nokia squircles are used as bubbles at the beginning and the animation used throughout. It’s very TV ad worthy – if Nokia were in the business of promoting Nokia Store over TV channels this would be a nice style to do it in (but I think it would help to have a voice over that reinforces that)

What’s also weird is that they use a Nokia 600 – wasn’t that the Belle handset that never made it to market?

Update: Sorry folks. Both videos seem to have disappeared. Seems it was possibly a little to early (and meant for MWC announcement – 13m is quite something to talk about)

why do they do stupid shit like this to piss us off or something ?..what do you think Jay?

    • Jay Montano says:

Silly Nokia marketing people? With one hand they giveth (awesomely presented) and the other they take away (mistakes).

I’m not even sure this video was meant to be public now already. I couldn’t seem to find anything about the 13m daily downloads (that we talked about in previous post). Perhaps this is for MWC and with all the hubub they weren’t really expecting anyone to notice what phone was used here.

      • deep space bar says:

they should have started making bigger and thinner cheap symbian phones in the 2nd batch of symbian belle phone since they sported the 1ghz and more RAM to show progression of symbian but still have the same low price

        • Marc Aurel says:

They did and the Nokia 603 is a good example. As for phones bigger than 3.5″ displays; I don’t think it makes much sense with nHD resolution. The 4″ displays of the E7 and X7 look quite coarse. Perhaps 3.7″ would still make sense with nHD, but that’s about the maximum.

Now, if Symbian ever gets FWVGA (854×480) resolution like promised and rumored in spring 2011, it will of course help a lot, but recent rumors suggest that Symbian will stay at nHD until the end.

that is a great ad, hopefully these latest stories means nokias going to be pushing the store more to try and get more devs on board

Man, they should’ve canceled the Nokia 500 instead…

Built in FM antenna and FM transmitter, Belle out-of-the-box, GPU, cooler design, the phone with the most powerful speaker and so on…

Nokia 600 is soo much better and cooler!

    • lordstar says:

Yeah the 600 would have been a killer device for value. The 603 is good though

    • Kaizer Allen says:

And because of that mistake with the 500, they’re left with optimizing a lot of their future updates just for that device. If they’ve gone with 600 from the start, they only need to do minor tweaks and BAM! The update’s ready.

      • weirdfisher says:

500 is used to test whether it is possible to handle symbian without a GPU, and it failed

        • Marc Aurel says:

Well, with Belle it’s reportedly much better, so I wouldn’t say that it failed. The 500 sells for about the same price as the C5-03 a year ago, and even with Anna it was a significant step up in every way. Belle makes it even better, and if you compare it to for example Samsung’s Android devices at the same price range, it is superior in most respects.

The Chinese (ZTE and Huawei) can provide as good or even slightly better featured devices at the same price as the 500, but the Nokia brand still has some value especially in the emerging markets where the 500 is primarily designed for, so comparison to Samsung and LG devices is more appropriate.

Maybe Nokia 600 will be new lower end Windows phone. You never know

I tried to watch the video but the message “This video is private” appeared on the player

  5. chard says:

    i want n600 :( but, its canceled.

btw, the video is private :/

  6. sillyboy says:

I thought that nokia 600 was not really canceled, it just finds a suitable time to be sold out. Because if it was sold out at the same time with nokia 603 and 500, They ‘d kill each other.I hope that nokia 600 will come back this year with Carla. And I want so :)

  7. yemko says:

I love 600 right from the start.. Good audio sound, cam flash, FM transmitter… If nokia had released it in the first place,it will outsold all even though it display not as good as 603

  8. trojan_mouse says:

i want the 600 and i hate nokia cancelling this phone!
