Lumiappaday #108: Currency demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800 (XE currency converter)
Currency is an exchange rate app by XE – they’re my first port of call when I’m doing currency conversions so it was nice to see an official app from them.
It’s really easy to use. Adding/organizing currencies are a doddle – simple find and tap to add. To exchange, just click your starting currency, put the value in and you will see what this is in other currencies that you have selected all at once. There’s a neat shake to reset feature to quickly set the current currency back to 1.
There’s some graph analyses data also but this isn’t something I’d possibly use. All currencies are updated by default every 10 minutes or when you add a new currency. You can change how often this is or manually refresh. Converting does not need an internet connection so this can all work offline.

Awesome, maybe Ill get the 610 along with the 808 just to get the best of both worlds
Nice app, but unfortunately it is not available in Finland through Marketplace. That’s why I use GlobalMoney-app.
Same here in the Malaysian Marketplace. Not to mention that some of the apps available for free in other Marketplaces require payment in the former. That’s why I chose the UK version for my Lumia 800 to get them for free, especially this one.
Don’t know why Microsoft can’t standardise their apps worldwide, regardless if they’re free or paid.
As for this app by XE, been using it for a while and find it useful but you do need to be connected to the internet in order to get the current rate when you add a new currency. Only then will you be able to do tinker around offline.
Thanks for the update. Sorry, I was not aware this was not a global app.
Thanks for the suggestion for Global Money, I’ll take a look at that in future.
Yes it’s an emerging market perspective but let me tell you no one gets their phones out there and sold in over a hundred emerging market countries like Nokia. I have good hopes for the Nokia/ Microsoft alliance. They will sell and sell a lot. There are many perils to owning your own manufacturing like Nokia does. But the upside is sturdy high quality builds – They’re the Toyota of the mobile market and Nokias because of this quality actually have an amazing robust resale value which further boosts their purchase chances in the first place.
