N9Apps: Flash on the Nokia N9! Demo with BBC iPlayer! (Video uploading atm)

| March 6, 2012 | 47 Replies

Yes! Finally! When FireFox arrived we were told Flash would come soon after and yes sir, it is here.

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/02/25/n9apps-firefox-demoed-on-nokia-n9-available-at-nokia-store-flash-for-next-week/

Look above and I have BBC iPlayer on my N9. Note, I have only just installed it so I can’t give a full verdict on performance.

However, youtube works fine. Video/audio in sync. However you have to let it load/buffer/relax a little when you touch the screen or pan around or zoom as it will hiccup or stop. After you let flash compose himself, he’s all fine to show you flash content!

The other test I tried was for BBC iPlayer. It’s not made for mobile and the mobile version that Androids get isn’t compatible for some reason. Videos will need that time to load etc and then they’ll play ok. Audio and video are in better sync when in high bandwidth (which is the opposite to my N900 which requires setting to lower bandwidth to play),

If you had previously disabled JavaScript to make FireFox work faster, you must enable it again for flash to work.

To get flash, just head on over to Nokia Store.

You will of course need to use FireFox.

Now I just wish FireFox didn’t stutter like it was trying to audition for “The King’s Speech”.

Thank you mauriceF for the tip!

I am uploading a video as we speak (been uploading for an hour already), thanks to Virgin Media and their Craponyah service, you might not see it for another 1-2 hours.

This might then be a good time to ask you to subscribe to http://www.youtube.com/user/MyNokiaBlog

I might be in a lecture this evening (optional medic lecture) so I won’t be able to embed when the video finally escapes the clutches of crappy Virgin Media.

Great to hear on this development! One of the many reasons I would choose the N9 over the Lumia 900 and the 800 PureView..

  2. does not work unless one has PR1.2 update.

  3. Singaporean says:

A good time to buy an N9!

Flash in browser and Gtalk video calls!

I wish someone ports over the Palm OS emulator that N800 and N900 had.

    • Shaun says:

You mean the SDL game library? I think I remember reading that that had been done already so possibly Palm WebOS games are possible.

  4. Gen says:

    Its Flash 10.1 Right?

I really hate Elop for killing N9!

  7. wes? says:

So many nice hack’s and unique features with MeeGo. Wish there would be a MeeGo handset with up to date CPU/GPU, PureView and a 720p screen. I’d buy it for without any doubt…
Main reason to not buy the N9 is the camera-downgrade from my N8…

    • Grazy says:

its not all about the mp!! But yes not as good but not bad! If only it had a xenon flash!

      • wes? says:

Sensorsize + Xenon make the N8 the way better camera phone than the N9, still I miss the LED as a flashlight. PureView has it all…

  8. Sfu says:

Does this work on the native browser?

  9. Edmund says:

  15. Nagol says:

I wish we can get firefox mobile on S60 symbians :-(

    • Jaydee says:

No need Firefox.. Hate the UI.. Just bring Flash 10.1 to the default Nokia browser or better yet, bring it to Opera Mobile. And why not? Flash 10.1′s minimum requirement is at least a 1ghz processor. With the new 808 clocking at 1.3ghz and the promised overclock of the 2nd gen Symbian ^3 I don’t why Nokia can’t bring this Flashplayer plugin to Symbian ^3. If u mean Symbian ^3 that is. If u really mean S60 Symbian, then definitely, no.

  16. N9owner says:

  21. Sean says:

    MeeGo + N9 = Happy user!!!

  24. ibrakalifa says:

lol my N900 load faster than firefox on n9, what a joke, -_-a

    • Saul says:

It doesn’t actually. FF on N900 is way slower.
      Unlike you I actually own the N900 & N9.
You’ve been taking about getting a N9, but never get one.

      • ibrakalifa says:

and i prove it myself, ;)
u dont know how to handle the mighty n900, for sure, can ur n9 beat my sgs2?, please?
        lol

        • Saul says:

          Depends on your use case…
I’m sure it can in many ways.
You have no conception of thinking laterally.

Your mind doesn’t seem to be capable of that cognitive ability.
As evidenced by the fact that you always think in terms of hw.

          • ibrakalifa says:

lol, bcause it does it, ur n9 will never reach the level of dualcore, sgs2 with cyanogenmod7 is better than urs, need more prove?, can ur old chipset play 720p hp? lol tell me please, there is always an hardware limitation, sorry i love the way n9 of being unique, but nokia never give it special place, thats the fact, at least is just a phone, not my wife’s so better get a life and enjoy my full HD show and faster cores than yours, :)

            • Saul says:

You understand that a 720p vid looks no better than one designed for the native res right?
In fact, it can look worse & also wastes CPU cycles.
              Oh that’s right you didn’t know that…

              • ibrakalifa says:

                waste?, lol
prove me?, native?, N900 work out of the box skype video call, but N9 doesnt, tell me in what case of native? im on ur side, love maemo os, but nokia wont give it a chance to become stronger, it deserve it, give it better cpu and gpu, better upgrading maemo5 hardware on N900, that will be awesomeee, im fanatic fans of N900, but i have to say, its becoming old right now, :)

                • Saul says:

If you don’t know what I’m talking about then I’m sorry.
But You shouldn’t be making the kind criticisms you are.
As you’re clearly not technically knowledgeable.

                  AS for Skype vid call….
That has nothing to do with hw limitations of the N9.
                  That’s a political one…

Who cares anyway, I’ve tested GTalk & it’s as nicely integrated as Skype in the N900 was.
                  Probably slightly better actually…
GTalk is also more multi-platform than Skype.

                  • ibrakalifa says:

so i’ll wait for ur amazing technically for improving n9, goodluck, :)
prove it to me then, thx, ;)

                    • Saul says:

I would, but it seems like a waste of time.

I’ve seen others refute every point you raise.
And they’ve been pretty accurate for every point.

But it doesn’t seem to sink in.
So I’d rather not waste my time.

                      Sorry….

                    • ibrakalifa says:

and i waste my time to reply ur quote, :D

i cant wait for ics on my sgs2, android is getting better and better, :)

                    • Saul says:

It has it’s strengths… Certainly has a shit-load weaknesses too.
Unlike you I enjoy & know much more about both ;)

                    • ibrakalifa says:

know what?, lol pointless, ur a fanboy of fanaticsm, lol

yea you know more,ur smarter, but never prove a thing, u have both?, world best phones 2011 is?
yea world is not that smart, defend as hard as you can dude, if nokia give it more chances, its will be another story, :D

                    • Saul says:

Yup, I own SGSII, N9, iPhone, BB, & others.
I’m a mobile app dev, tis my bread n butter.

Learn how to read/research more effectively.
It will help you in the long-run.
