Video: DLNA Nokia Play To demoed on Nokia Lumia 710 (like AirPlay)
DLNA is not new though the name doesn’t conjure up any obvious meaning, as say, Apple’s ‘AirPlay’ (requires Apple TV) where content from the phone can be played back on a compatible device (TV) wirelessly.
Nokia’s App, Play To became available for Nokia Lumia this week. (Perhaps it should be called, PureStream? ;p)

With the “Play To” application for Nokia Lumia phones you can show pictures and videos wirelessly on other DLNA capable devices (TV’s, BlueRay players, Mediaplayer in Windows 7, etc…) connected to their network.
Future releases of the application are planned to also include support for music.
Please download the application and try it at home with a DLNA-capable device, then let us know if it worked or not (for example, by writing a review if it worked, or submitting a bug report if it doesn’t work).
Either way, we would like to know the type of router you were using, the make and model of the DLNA device (TV, Blu-Ray player, etc..) you were connecting to or trying to connect to.
Another piece of valuable information would be if your TV/Blu-Ray player was connected to the network via a cable or connected wirelessly.
Here’s a demo of that in action. Connection seems quick and the controls look simple and responsive.

Hmm. I’d like to try that. I think my Acer is DLNA certified. Not sure what the set up will involve but I’ll give it a go.
BTW, check this DLNA demo out from the N95. Ah N95. The days when no one knew what a smartphone was, except for possibly the select Nokia users.
This looks quite a cumbersome set up. But back then, we just accepted that smartphones need some smarts and are generally more complicated.
Now it’s a new invention by Apple. :p jk
Here’s Play To on Nokia C7
Cheers Juri for the tip.

Wow that works quite well. Way to go Nokia.
Well there is no avoiding it so I might as well capitulate now, I’m going to have to buy a Lumia 900 out of contract.
I can already see a living room ecosystem of Nokia/Microsoft technology.
yes…thats why you propably belong to the people thinking smartphones are an inovation by apple!
dlna “should” work across different devices so there is no need for any nokia/microsoft technology!
WTF? Another option COMMON in Nokia N9 since half a year!! You are only copying Nokia N9 regular staff and options? And this is “windows is best”? No comments!
Hello Joana or whatever name you picked this time for what ever reason.
No one cares if feature X has been here for half a year. Flash has been on Symbian for half a year before N9 had it. Does anyone care? No.
No one cared that iPhone had folders after Symbian. No one.
No one cared for all the things Symbian had before anyone. It’s not a point anyone cared about unfortunately.
No one cared that WP had the quick camera launch at lock before anyone.
No one cares.
BTW, as you’re an expect, did DLNA work out of the box for the N9 when it was first released?
DLNA is only integrated in the N9 since PR1.2, so for a month now.
Won’t work with my laptop or PC, unfortunately. :/
open windows media player and there will be an option of “stream” click it then make connection with your pc it will work…
Works like a charm, thanks!
You can also use open source VLC player, it is better IMHO.
Can´t get it work with my Lumia 800 and Sony BDV-E970.
But with Nokia E7 that combination work´s perfectly…
Any tip´s?
There is a known problem with Sony products in the Beta.
And this known problem has got only Lumia and Windows? Condolences! Try Nokia N9 for comfortable using of all and everything.
Why are you spreading your vitriol about Lumia everywhere? If you don’t like it, stop posting in threads about it? Otherwise, what’s wrong with you?
I tried doing this with my Xbox 360 but they don’t see each other. Does anyone know if it’s possible?
Unfortunately, I don’t think the 360 properly supports DLNA.
It will be possible when the app hits the marketplace.
How do you know that?
This is possible in the N9 too now…
Thanks to an app that the dev of the DLNA server (phako) released.
called “Helium”
htc already managed to bring whole phone display on tv screen wirelessly
how long we need to see this feature available on nokia phones?
