Whatsapp for WP updated to V1.9 now support Emoji &Media History!
Whatsapp for WP just got updated to V1.9; as far as I can tell the latest version brings support for Emoji (which has been a common complaint against the WP version) as well as “recently shared media” under Contact info.
Full Changelog:
Improved support for Emoji
- Group mute features
- Share contacts
- Browse downloaded media in a conversation
- German and Russian localizations
- The usual bug fixes and performance improvements
If you don’t find the update on your marketplace try the “Forcing a Marketplace update” technique (worked for me).
I have no idea why you’d want to send your friend a “smiling turd” but now you can! Enjoy.

The smiling turd was the emotion I used the most when I used Whatsapp on Symbian
Wish they’d bring this to Nokia N9(officially, not convinced that community port is ever going to properly materialise, and if it does will it be killed next update).

What makes you so sure of all this?

I haven’t been following the main thread for a while.
Well the dev has not said anything for about 2-3 weeks since last posting an update claiming it s working. Folk over at maemo talk are dying to try out even alpha code but he has not released any code or videos, bar one or two easily fakable screenshots.
Not knocking the guy at all, he is doing this in his spare time but the fact he is asking for donations but has not so much as delivered one piece of code in around 6 weeks, people are starting to get cynical and its creating a shitstorm over at maemo talk over impatient folk and those defending him.
Furthermore, people reckon whatsapp will try to block the application if the source code IS released because they will know how the application is communicating with their servers and thus may be a weak-spot for their systems. I’m not convinced whatsapp is anywhere as secure as they claim – they send messages unencrypted and have been known to have been exploited via IMEI/IMSI hacks. Just a pity everyone has adopted whatsapp as their im client and not ebuddy, which actually can encrypt messages.
Also, the N9 version has been made by reverse engineering the java s40 clients – which is pretty much illegal and against tos.
Thanks, haven’t been following for a while.
I hope it’s not all hot air….
Then again I’ve always tried to pump up eBuddy in the TMO commune.
To little avail ofc, because it just doesn’t have critical mass tragically.
I’ve actually heard ICQ (yes ICQ) is pretty damn good now.
I might have a play with it again soon (not available for maemo6 ofc)
I doubt it’s very open though….
XMS in its current state is very minimalistic to say the least. No photo/video sharing, highly limited amount of emotions etc.
I do have hopes that ebuddy will be a viable alternative to whatsapp after the next update which should add alot more feautures. Once whatsapp goes past its free trial year for most folk people may jump ship.
True.
Is there any more clarity on that next major update?
Last I was following (1mth+) they seemed to be distancing themselves from the featureset/time-frame they orig had.
Sounded like they were openly admitting that harmattan had become far less of a priority compared to some of the other OS’s.
Well, and when will be for Nokia N9? Or are there any “silent” actions for this not to happen? That would be monopoly actions, am I right? There were even internet actions asking Nokia N9 version which is hardly needed. How Nokia support it’s customers asking for this soft for Nokia N9? Please let me know? I am also wonder if I will have Whatsapp for Tizen? As if there will be no other choice users from MeeGo and Symbian will be forced to go Tizen. Any news about Whatsapp for Nokia N9?
“How Nokia support it’s customers asking for this soft for Nokia N9″
You act though Nokia develops these applications. All they can do is support developers and possibly pay them for application porting or exclusivity, which given their financial situation, I very much doubt.
Hate it when people say “nokia, please bring out x, y and z to symbian/n9/s40″ when Nokia are not even the developers!
@Aliqudsi hi. i have some questions about whatsapp on windows phone.
1- does it open links?
2- does it open multi links ( more than 2 links in one message)
3- can you copy all the text if u were chatting in a group and someone send more than two messages in a row ” does it copy them all or just the first message like in the n8″
and thanks
strange but this is the only app for which updates are not shown on my live tile, is it marketplace issue or whatsapp issue
