Video: Nokia N9 Screen Repair – Replace Display LCD (AMOLED) + Touch

| May 23, 2012 | 17 Replies

Another video for you N9 owners looking to do some DIY fixing for your Nokia N9. This time, it’s about changing the screen.

This would void your warranty and you may break your device so attempt at your own risk. This is not advised, but if ever you would need some help on how to do so, this is a very useful video.

Can I replace the screen with a non-pentile one?

    • James

Doubtful, the OS/hw is designed for the current res. & “effective” density.
If ever there ever was an OS you could hack around that, it’s Maemo6x.
      But I don’t think it’d be a “walk in the park”…

      Even if you could….
Can you point to a 3.9″ panel that has a sRBG sub-pixel config, doesn’t drop it’s res. below 854×480, & is the perfect dimensions?
      I doubt such a beast exists, sadly…

      • James

You may have better luck finding a AMOLED 800×480, sRBG, 3.9′ panel, with the perfect dimensions.
But I don’t see how that’d necessarily be a huge improvement over the current one.
Especially since it’s unlikely to included Nokia’s CBD-related augmentations.
Which admittedly are mostly what SAMOLED brought to the table, with the exception of the polariser.

N9 is a sick dinosour, just stick a needle to it.

I think the words you were looking for were “N9 is the best smartphone ever made. Please don’t hurt one!”

    • James

Hi, where can I buy N9 screen replacement in Europe?

    • James

Probably one of the worst places to be asking/searching.
(not to mention the poor etiquette necro-post)

    Jay,
Thank you so much so this. Following this great video I was able to resurrect my wifes N9. It’s the greatest smartphone to date and so rare, it’s a godamned tragedy Nokia ditched Linux/Meego and went with M$. Thanks again mate.

If you’re referring to the original author not Jay, he’s contactable via his youtube channel.
It makes zero sense posting here to thank people…
