Video: Older 808 proves Carla is Belle FP1

| May 28, 2012 | 106 Replies

Over the past week or so there’s been a lot of commotion regarding the rumored “Scrapping of Carla”; which was then proven and confirmed to be gibberish as we learned that Carla was renamed as Belle FP1 (from the original leak of Carla we all knew that  it would only carry minor UI changes to Belle without any ground breaking changes (mainly new widgets)- which is exactly what Belle FP1 carried with it. Here’s a video of a pre-release 808 showing that Software version 112.whatever which is now known as Belle FP1 was indeed once upon a time called Carla; it is worth noting that the software date here is January 28th 2012 (just one month before the MWC unveil)- while the devices we got to play around with were dated Feb. 20th 2102; so it would appear that the ditching of the Carla name was a very short notice thing occurring somewhere between  Jan 28th and Feb 20th.

Here’s a Noob question; I may be way off but I understand that the pureview has a dedicated processor to control it’s imaging capabilities; wouldn’t that make it the first Multi-processor/Core Symbian phone? And as rumored the final Symbian update “Donna” at the time; would be for Mulit-core phones? -Can anyone explain if what I’m saying has any basis?

T hanks for the tip Jill

Its the 709 with 12mp and belle fp2 on board to be launched at Nokia World. Others will be 605, 609, 650 clocked@ 1.5ghz.
    Cheers!

  2. lordstar says:

Lol, the picture is a giveaway.

  3. Core says:

dsmobile can you tell us which OS Nokia 605 is going to use ?

    • James says:

“dsmobile can you tell us which OS Nokia 605 is going to use?”

+1 Yes please! I doubt it’ll be Meltemi though :-(
And even if it is with that model no. it won’t be very impressive, even if the sw’s amazing.

      • James says:

        “even if the sw’s amazing.”

        which is also quite unlikely.

        • lordstar says:

Yep yep, can the real dsmobile give a hint with the 605?

          • dsmobile says:

I don’t know what device will use 605. The one and only Meltemi device I have seen could fit in 6xx series.

            • lordstar says:

              Nice, thanks dsmobile!

            • KF says:

so Meltemi is more than just S40 replacement! 6XX suggest smartphones :D

              • James says:

It was always meant to be more than just S40.
Doesn’t mean it’s going to be like Maemo6x (meego-harmattan) though.
                Very unlikely… sadly…

            • James says:

              @dsmobile

So it’s a pretty mundane looking device right? :-/
I thought you said you have nothing to do with Nokia nowadays?

              TIA.

              • dsmobile says:

meltemi phone looks about same as lumia 610 but with out front HW buttons.

Well I still have friends at Nokia.

                • James says:

So in other words it’ll be rather dull.
                  Thanks dsmobile… :(

                  • Jill says:

610 is quite impressive looking .. how come dull ?

                    • James says:

Build-quality/design might be ok (sadly not as good as their top-ends ph’s) but hw will be quite mediocre.
Plus all the rumours so far have pointed to the sw been more limited/restricted than Maemo6x.
                      That’s what I meant by “mundane”….

                  • KF says:

no it looks good. Hopefully its thinner, it’ll be even more impressive

                • Jill says:

Without front HW Button means its full touch .. N9 philosophy .. thats actually great.

dsmobile: Can the current Symbian hardware run Meltemi ? (future thought)

                  • James says:

“Can the current Symbian hardware run Meltemi?”

Depends on what you mean by “current hardware”.
If you’re referring to core components of the SoC’s used by the latest S^3 phones.
                    Then yes of course….

                    • Jill says:

I mean can Belle on 701, 700, 603 in future be replaced by Meltemi ?

                    • James says:

It shouldn’t be hard at all for something similar to maemo6x to be re-adapted for that hardware.
It’s only a few shades away from what N9/950 use, there’s no highly specialised ASIC/DSP’s etc.
And we already know that it’s far more re-adaptable than WP in that respect.
But whether it will use hw of that calibre or lower, who knows…

                    • Jill says:

If specs are on the lower side .. higher specs shall not be a problem right ?

More importantly are there any such indications ?

                    • James says:

It’s quite possible that specs will be similar to 700/700/N9 etc.

But the worrying part is that the sw may be more rigid than Maemo6x, which has been a PIA, albeit getting better.
Plus it’ll probably be far less feature-packed, & all the built-in apps/UX will probably be closed source too, which makes it even more infuriating.
There’s reasons why they’d do all that ofc, but as a Maemo/MeeGo enthusiast that’ll kill most of it’s appeal to me.
But who knows, we have to wait & see…

                    • Jill says:

sure .. lets see what’s in the store.

You can remove yourself, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work it out…
